Global Eagle delivers foreign Language TV programmes for ship crew

Global Eagle Entertainment Inc. (NASDAQ:ENT) has expanded its portfolio of live programming delivered by satellite to cruise ships with the addition of new channels for crew members from India and the Philippines. Global Eagle is now delivering TV programs from Viacom 18 Colors and the ABS-CBN Filipino channels. Known for its popular drama series and blockbuster reality TV programs, Colors has become a Hindi-language cultural touchstone. It is a part of Viacom 18 Media, one of India’s fastest-growing entertainment networks.

Retired Ferry Gets a New Lease on Life

A 50-year-old retired Washington State passenger ferry will get a refit, and with it another life as a floating entertainment space. Washington State Ferries (WSF) has sold its smallest retired ferry, Hiyu, for $150,000 to Menagerie Inc., who plans to repurpose the vessel as a floating entertainment venue. “We make every effort to keep our retired ferries operational, instead of being sold for scrap,” said WSF Chief of Staff Elizabeth Kosa. At 162-feet-long, the ferry is considered to be the among "cutest and most cherished" in Washington history…

New Water Taxis Get Scania Power

Scania announced a deal with Potomac Riverboat Company, part of the Entertainment Cruises family, which will take delivery of eight DI13-liter engines in 2017 to power its high-speed, low-wake water taxis as part of The Wharf neighborhood in Washington D.C. Tax Includes Value of Shipboard Entertainment

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled that, for passenger ships, the harbor maintenance tax is to be computed on the basis of the actual charge paid for the voyage, including the value of shipboard entertainment. Various cruise lines contended that the entertainment was not a transportation element and should not be included in the calculations of the amount of tax owed. Redesign of Entertainment Spirit Cruises

After having redesigned the Boston dinner cruise ship Odyssey, the parent company Entertainment Cruises went back to THEREdesign Contemporary Architects + Interior Designers to rebrand their Spirit Cruises line. Spirit brand is more casual than Odyssey but the ships need to be elegant spaces suitable for special occasions and memorable group events. Entertainment Cruises wanted the experience of a land based restaurant combined with the added interest of being on the water. THEREdesign though never having worked at sea had created many hospitality and residential environments on land. THEREdesign used a host of exciting textures and materials, combined with dynamic lighting, to develop and express the brand’s identity while working within strict marine safety codes.

The marine interior planning team at Directions In Design, Inc. (DID) has completed the interior design for the total renovation of Philadelphia’s newest dining/entertainment venue, the Philadelphia Belle. DID provided theme development; space planning; and selections and specifications for floors, walls, lighting and furniture for all decks, including dining rooms bars, and live entertainment area. Window treatments, accessories and signage were also part of the comprehensive design package. All interior planning and selections meet U.S. Coastguard regulations.

M/V Lady Pintail, launched by SkipperLiner, features a cherrywood décor with marble floors and marble countertops. The 149-passenger corporate entertainment yacht has an elevated pilothouse (to the third deck), and an expansive second deck dining salon and cocktail skylounge. Damen Orders AlphaBridge for Its First SOV

Alphatron Marine has signed a contract with the Damen Shipyards Group for the delivery of the AlphaBridge including an IT and entertainment package for the first Service Operations Vessel (SOV), providing comfort and safety to the offshore and wind industry. Cement Barge Collides With Casino Boat

Fears of casino boats potentially colliding with real working vessels on busy waterways was a core tenant of the drive to keep the vessels permanently moored at dock. Those fears became reality on Monday, but thankfully without disastrous results. A casino boat en route to its Indiana port and a barge carrying cement collided on the Mississippi River, causing extensive damage to the gambling boat, the Coast Guard said, but only slightly injuring one onboard the gambling boat.
