Nobiskrug Inks Deal to Build Superyacht “Black Shark”

Her striking design makes “Black Shark” one of the most interesting superyacht projects at present. Nobiskrug and the owner have signed the contract for the continued construction of the vessel (new build project 793). With the third order since the economic restart the Rendsburg shipyard stays on its successful course since the takeover by Tennor Group. Investor Lars Windhorst, who was significantly involved in the negotiations for the “Black Shark”, emphasizes that this success is proof of Nobiskrug’s capabilities.

Two Incat Crowther 37s Delivered to Mexico

Incat Crowther has announced the delivery of a pair of Incat Crowther 37 passenger ferries to Mexico.Built by Wight Shipyard, Lady D and Lady A have been delivered to Mexico’s largest operator Ultramar, where they will join an extensive fleet of Incat Crowther-designed vessels. The project brings together a long-term Incat Crowther operator and a high-quality ship yard to deliver an outstanding product.With capacity for 459 passengers, the vessels have been built to a very high quality, notably higher than a regular commuter ferry.

Intellian to Debut Convertible 60cm Class Antenna

Technology group Wärtsilä and China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) have signed a new joint venture company agreement. The new joint venture, to be known as CSSC Wärtsilä Electrical & Automation Co Ltd (CWE&A), will focus on the growing Chinese electrical and automation (E&A) market, especially for high-tech ship applications. The joint venture company is expected to be fully operational before the middle of 2017. China is a growing market within the high-tech ships segment, and Chinese yards are increasingly active in newbuild projects for high-tech and high-added value ships.

FUSION-Link Remote Control App. Launched

Eastern Shipbuilding Group’s reengineered Columbia, built from the original design plans of the classic 1923 Essex-built schooner, will be on display at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, October 30-November 3, 2014. The original Columbia, a 141’ classic Gloucester Fishing Schooner designed by William Starling Burgess, built at the historic A.D. Story shipyard of Essex, Massachusetts and launched April 17, 1923, was bred for speed, challenging – and nearly defeating – Canada’s legendary Bluenose schooner in the International Fishermen’s Cup Races in Halifax.

Carnival Plans to Save 1 Billion Gallons of Fuel

Carnival Corporation & plc released the results of its multiyear Fleet Fuel Conservation Program that states by the end of 2014 the cruise company will have saved more than one billion gallons of fuel and reduced fleet carbon emissions by 12 billion kilograms over a seven year period. By the end of 2014, Carnival Corporation's Fleet Fuel Conservation Program will have improved the fleet's overall fuel efficiency by 24 percent compared to 2007, while saving approximately $2.5 billion in fuel costs, the company's single biggest expense.

New GL Guidelines for Complex Data Networks

Germanischer Lloyd (GL) has published new guidelines for data networks which are implemented onboard ships or offshore platforms. As the maritime industry makes greater use of automated systems data networks have become more and more complex, while also integrating safety-critical and non-safety-critical application systems. The guidelines are available for download now on the GL website and will enter into force on August 1, 2013. One of the main reasons for the increasing number of application systems which are connected through data networks is to minimize the total length of cabling installed throughout the vessel. SAM Electronics Equips New Celebrity Cruiseliner

Celebrity Cruises’ new cruiseliner, Celebrity Reflection, has been equipped with an extensive range of navigation, automation and entertainment systems from SAM Electronics and its associate L-3 companies. Built by Meyer Werft in Germany at a reported cost of $750m, the 315m 126,000-gt vessel was formally named in Miami last December. Bridge equipment includes a SAM NACOS 65-5 integrated navigation command assembly comprising five S and X-band radars serially linked to a similar number of Multipilot 1100 workstations for combined display of ARPA radar, Ecdis and conning functions as well as integrated operation of automatic steering control.

Cruise Line RCI Extends Oceans TV Agreement

UK's Oceans TV announce that Royal Caribbean International has extended satellite TV channel agreements for two of the cruise line's ships. The first agreement covers the provision of a wide package of satellite TV channels for Serenade of the Seas whilst it cruises in European and Middle Eastern waters in Winter and Spring 2013. Channels include BBC World News, BBC Entertainment and CNBC Europe for English speaking passengers. Italian cruise lovers can watch Rai News, Rai 1 and Mediaset Italia; TF1 and AB1 are available for French passengers whilst TVE Internacional and RTL Schweiz can be viewed by Spanish and German speakers respectively. The second agreement is for the supply of the TV Globo International satellite TV channel onboard Splendour of the Seas.

Alphatron Delivers Comprehensive Electronics Package

With the christening of the new pilot station vessel Polaris Alphatron Marine of Rotterdam has completed the design, installation and commissioning of one of the most comprehensive deliveries since its founding in 1991. In close cooperation with Fysergo, a Dutch company specialised in ergonomic workspace design, an Alphabridge wheelhouse concept was designed in order to comply with the  severe demands of the Dutch pilots association in regards to sitting and standing vessel operations. A special workspace for the pilots was also included in the total bridge concept.

EDT Offshore (Cyprus), an operations and management company for offshore support and dredging services, has taken delivery of a Damen Fast Crew Supplier 3507 and an FCS 5009: the EDT Leda and the EDT Nefeli. Both are built according to the Damen Sea Axe design, which reduces slamming up to 75 percent and increases crew comfort. The EDT Nefeli is outfitted withDP1, FiFi 1 and a luxury interior for a high level of passenger comfort during longer trips. EDT has a fleet of twenty Diving Support Vessels (DP3), Offshore Support Vessels, crew suppliers and dredgers, operating worldwide.

Martek Lands BNWAS deal for V.Ships’ Fleet

Martek Marine has secured a contract to supply its Navgard Bridge Navigation Watch Alarm System (BNWAS) to Seacom Electronics, the UK subsidiary of global ship management services giant V.Ships. Southampton-headquartered Seacom has placed an initial order for a Navgard BNWAS compliance package comprising a Navgard panel with two weatherproof external resets, an internal reset, three cabin alarms and four high intensity audio visual alarms. Martek will also deliver items including an illuminated push-button reset for the bridge, a bridge wing reset button, officer cabin alarm and a high intensity corridor audio-visual alarm. The initial contract is expected to be followed by orders for further packages to be installed on V.Ships’ vessels during the next three years.

Alewijnse signs contract with AMELS

Alewijnse Marine Systems, the leading systems integrator based in Nijmegen in the Netherlands, has signed an agreement with top Dutch superyacht builder AMELS, to undertake the complete electrical outfitting on six new superyachts at AMELS’ yard in Vlissingen. Of the six yachts, one will be the first of the innovative new LIMITED EDITIONS 199 series designed by Tim Heywood with a distinctive scimitar bow, and the remaining five will be the latest in the phenomenally successful LIMITED EDITIONS 177 series.

MAVCO Awarded Contract

MAVCO has been awarded the contract to design, supply and install a range of audio, video, lighting and effect systems in over twenty venues on board a third Crystal Cruises ship. Commissioned by ALSTOM Marine Chantiers de l’Antantique shipyard in St. Nazaire, France, MAVCO will be involved with the complete contract for local entertainment systems. Scheduled for delivery in late June 2003, the unnamed 68,000-ton vessel will see an increased number of Crystal Cruises’ most successful features, including more entertainment lounges, expanding on the best of Crystal Harmony and Crystal Symphony. The scope of the project ahead for MAVCO incorporates detailed system design, supply, installation and commissioning shared between the company’s offices in Miami and the U.K.
