Wilhelmsen, NorSea Join Forces for Hydrogen

The Norwegean global maritime industry group Wilh. Wilhelmsen Holding ASA and Denmark-based supply chain manager NorSea join forces to develop liquid hydrogen supply chain for maritime applications in Norway.The environmentally friendly liquid hydrogen can be offered to commercial shipping in large scale supply within first quarter 2024, claimed the companies.Together with major industry players such as Equinor, Viking Cruises, Air Liquide, and more, this is a huge and important step towards a sustainable future, and it aligns perfectly with Wilhelmsen’s long-term strategy supporting the UN sustainable development goals.The project was recently awarded a grant of NOK 33.5 million (USD 3.7 million) from the governmental PILOT-E scheme…

Drydocks World & DMC to build 1st LNG-powered tug

Drydocks World and Dubai Maritime City (DMC), the leading provider of services to the shipping, maritime, oil, gas & energy sector is supporting the "Green Economy for Sustainable Development" initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of UAE and Ruler of Dubai. As part of this initiative, the company has entered into Memoranda of Understanding with Wartsila and Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence for building the world’s first LNG powered harbor tug. The project launched under the trade mark “Elemarateyah” is part of the Dubai Maritime Green Initiative, a strategic movement to encourage all-round environmental excellence in maritime and allied sectors including oil, gas and energy.

OceanSaver Wins BWT Contract

OceanSaver’s ballast water treatment (BWT) system has been chosen for two 162,000cbm LNG carriers being built by BW Gas. OceanSaver was selected due to its competitive pricing, low operating costs, and compatible technical system. BW Gas is one of the largest independent owners and operators of LNG carriers and the largest owner and operator of LPG carriers. These sophisticated and highly regulated vessels require competent crews and high quality operations. They also require consistent standards of maintenance which BW Gas maintains regardless of short-term changes in the freight market. With these standards in mind, BW Gas conducted a thorough evaluation of the OceanSaver ballast water system (BWT) before confirmation.

Hapag-Lloyd Orders 3 Mega Containerships

Length 335m, width 43m, capacity over 100,000t for 8,600 standard containers – those are the key dimensions of the three containership newbuildings ordered today by Hapag-Lloyd. The vessels will be built by the South Korean Hyundai Heavy Industries. The first ship in the series will be delivered at the end of 2007 and the remaining two in 2008. Newbuildings must be ordered well in advance, as world production capacities for very large containerships are utilized up to 2008. Such a vessel then takes only about nine months to build. Hawaii Superferry Delivered with GL Class

Alakai, the high speed ferry classed by Germanischer Lloyd, has been delivered from its builder Austal USA to Hawaii Superferry. A second US flagged vehicle-and-passenger carrying catamaran is currently under construction. Powered by four MTU 20V 8200 M70 main engines via four ZF 53800 gearboxes, with a top speed of 35 knots, the high speed craft is capable of carrying 866 passengers and 282 cars. The ship incorporates environment-friendly technology, such as hulls with a non-toxic coating and on-board storage of wastewater, refuse and other solid waste. The vessel's design enjoys an excellent track record of safety and reliability. The environment-friendly, energy-efficient, specially designed catamaran meets or exceeds government standards for protecting Hawaii's islands and the ocean.
