A very active Atlantic hurricane season so far this year has not sent storms across U.S. oil and natural gas fields in the northern Gulf of Mexico, sparing energy companies billions of dollars of losses and consumers higher fuel costs.The 2023 Atlantic hurricane season has been another in a string with above average activity producing three major hurricanes with winds above 111 mph (179 kph) out of six hurricanes among 20 named tropical storms.So far this year, only one storm, Tropical Storm Harold, on Aug.

US Senators Ready Bill to Fund Office Helping Iran Oil Seizures

Iranian Oil Cargo Being Unloaded After Long Delay

A cargo of Iranian crude oil that was seized by the United States was unloading on Sunday after waiting two-and-a-half months off the coast of Texas to discharge, ship tracking data showed.Suez Rajan, a Marshall Islands-flagged tanker, has been anchored off Galveston, about 50 miles (80 km) outside of Houston, since May 30, unable to unload because commercial agents fear any vessel that takes it will be shunned by customers.But on Sunday, the Liberia-flagged tanker MR Euphrates was lined up next to Suez Rajan to perform a ship-to-ship transfer and remove the crude oil, according to ship tracking data on Refinitiv Eikon.The U.S. Department of Justiceā€¦

Lawmakers Urge Biden to Resolve Offloading Delay of Seized Iran Oil Tanker

U.S. lawmakers from both political parties have urged President Joe Biden and members of his administration to resolve a months-long delay in the transfer of a cargo of oil from a seized Iranian tanker off Texas.The Suez Rajan has been stuck near Galveston about 50 miles (80 km) from Houston since May 30, as shipping companies fear any vessel unloading it would lead other oil buyers to shun their ships on future voyages. The U.S. seized the tanker in a sanctions enforcement operation.The delay in discharging the cargo is also partly out of fear of repercussions from Iran. Eimskip, Ernst Russ JV Acquires Secondhand Containership

A joint venture between Eimskip and Ernst Russ AG has acquired a secondhand containership. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.The vessel, to be named Bakkafoss, was built in 2009 and has a slot capacity of 1,025 TEU.Scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2023, the vessel will be chartered out to Eimskip for a period of up to three years, serving the company's North American route.With this investment, the partners are expanding their portfolio of operated shipsā€¦

Following a three-vessel pilot project initiated in 2019, Klaveness Ship Management has opted to expand its contract with DNV GL's Veracity to sign up another eight vessels for the data platform service.The pilot saw Veracity partner with Arundo Analytics (Arundo) to install Arundo Edge Agent software onboard and stream data onto the Veracity data platform. On Veracity, the data is secured, stored, contextualized and combined with other data sources such as position data. Ernst Russ Buys Box Ship

The Ernst Russ Group has acquired a 700 TEU geared container ship in cooperation with a strategic partner.German-based company which manages a fleet of around 80 container, tanker and bulker ships as well as other vessels said that the successful acquisition of the vessel strengthens its strategic position in the market and further expands the Ernst Russ Group fleet.The 700 TEU container ship, MV ā€˜Skogafossā€™ was built in 2007 and is in a good technical condition. It has been operating on the North-Atlantic shipping routes to date and will be delivered into a charter with the Icelandic liner company Eimskip.The value of the transaction will not be disclosed.

Singapore has launched its first Maritime Sustainability Reporting Guide to support local companies' sustainability development practices.The guide was jointly launched by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), Singapore Exchange Limited (SGX), Global Compact Network Singapore (GCNS), Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA), and sustainability consultants from Ernst & Young LLP, KPMG and PwC Singapore.According to MPA, the Guide provides a practical framework, including best practices for creating a maritime sustainability report, for both listed and non-listed maritime companies.The need for the Guide was spurred by industry feedback on the growing need for sustainability reporting guidelinesā€¦
