TT Line Circles Back to Rauma Shipyard for RoPax Pair

Finnish shipbuilder Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) said on Wednesday that it has secured an order from Australian shipping company TT Line Company to build two car and passenger ferries at the Rauma shipyard.The newbuild order comes after TT Line, also known as Spirit of Tasmania, withdrew from a previous memorandum of understanding (MOU) last July while the Tasmanian government-owned company investigated options to produce the vessels locally to help offset economic impacts from the coronavirus pandemic.RMC revealed Wednesday that negotiations resumed in March this year…

Tallink Passenger Traffic Down 96% From Last Year

Estonian shipping firm Tallink on Tuesday reported a 96% drop in April passenger traffic and 14% drop in cargo traffic as countries around Baltic Sea locked down to limit the spread of the coronavirus.Tallink operates large ferries between Estonia and Finland, and from Latvia, Estonia and Finland to Sweden.The Estonian government has said it was ready to invest 150 million euros ($164 million) in the convertible debt of Tallink as the company provides crucial transport links.Finland and Estonia have decided to start opening up from mid-May, and will allow workers to travel between the two coun

MAN Reenters Finnish Market with Baltic Order

MAN Energy Solutions has won the order to supply the engines for a newbuild shuttle ferry for Estonian shipping company Tallink Grupp. A diesel-electric plant comprising five MAN 51/60DF dual-fuel main engines – with liquefied natural gas (LNG) as primary fuel – will power the MyStar, which Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) will construct at its yard in Finland. Tallink to Repair Silja Europa at Turku Yard

Estonian shipping company Tallink Grupp said that its vessel Silja Europa has set sail to Turku Repair Yard in Naantali, Finland for scheduled maintenance and planned renewal works that would make the ship more environmentally friendly.The 1993-built vessel will stay in Turku Repair Yard for two weeks, returning to the Tallinn-Helsinki route on February 9, said a press note from the provider of mini-cruise and passenger transport services in the northern Baltic Sea region.During the scheduled docking, the vessel will undergo considerable renovation of several key passenger areas. Tallink Grupp Names New Vessel MySTAR

Tallink Enters Singapore

Estonian shipping company Tallink Grupp has announced establishing a subsidiary in Singapore this week – Tallink Asia Pte Ltd – which is the group’s first subsidiary in Asia. The operator of cruise ferries and ropax ships said that the purpose of founding a subsidiary in Singapore is to simplify the development and expansion of the group’s activities in Asia."We have always been open about the fact that Tallink Grupp is continuously looking for opportunities to develop our activities and expand into new markets," Paavo Nõgene, CEO of Tallink Grupp said. Tallink Seeking Name for New Ferry

Tallink Gets Finance for LNG Ferry

Estonian shipping company Tallink Tallink Grupp has borrowed  EUR 197.6 million to finance the new EUR 247 million LNG powered fast ferry currently under construction in Rauma Marine Constructions Oy.The loan agreement was concluded between AS Tallink Grupp subsidiary Tallink Superfast Ltd. and KfW IPEX-Bank GmbH, the shipper said.The loan is arranged and long term financing is provided by KfW IPEX-Bank GmbH. Finnish Export Credit Agency “Finnvera” guarantees 95 per cent of this post-delivery buyer credit.The loan is secured by the mortgage on the new vessel and the corporate guarantee of AS Tallink Grupp.This OECD-term export credit loan will be drawn on the delivery of the vessel…

Tallink Grupp Orders LNG Ferry

Tallink Grupp, the largest passenger and cargo shipping company in the Baltic Sea region, and Finnish shipbuilding company Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) signed the contract for the construction of a new LNG-powered fast ferry for the Tallinn – Helsinki route shuttle operations.Similarl to the group’s newest vessel Megastar, the new shuttle ferry will also be dual fuel operated, its overall length will be approximately 212 meters and with a passenger capacity of 2,800, said a press release from the Estonian shipping company operating Baltic Sea cruiseferries and RoPax ships from Estonia to Finland.The vessel will cost approximately 250 million euros and it will be built at the Rauma shipyard in Finland…

Meyer Turku Investing Profits in its Shipyard

Coming off of three straight profitable years, Finnish shipbuilder Meyer Turku said it is using its profits to finance a 200 million euro ($237 million) investment program at its Turku shipyard.The cruise ship builder reported its 2017 revenue was 807.7 million euros ($959 million) compared to 2016’s 787.5 million euros ($935 million). Net profit for the financial year rose from 26.2 million euros ($31.1 million) (3.3 percent of revenue) to 32.2 million euros ($38 million) (4 percent of revenue).Meyer Turku delivered two ships in 2017, the first time in decades.

Hansatee To Charter ESCO Ferries

Estonian shipper Hansatee has reached an agreement with Estonian Shipping Company (ESCO) to charter two passenger ferries cruising on the Tallinn-Stockholm route from January 2, ESCO said. ESCO's development director Viktor Palmet told Reuters that Hansatee chartered the ferries Regina Baltica and Baltic Kristina without crews for six and two years, respectively, giving no further details of the contract. "Practically the deal means we (ESCO) can pursue our goal of freight shipping, having shifted the passenger ferries to the passenger shipper," Palmet said.
