Austal USA Vice President of Engineering, Tom Perrine, has retired after eight years of service with the company and over 40 years in the shipbuilding industry. During his tenure, Perrine led Austal USA’s engineering department overseeing the work of over 250 engineers, naval architects, designers, and other engineering support staff and overseeing the department’s shift to include steel design and construction.During Perrine’s tenure with the company, Austal USA delivered 23 surface combatants and auxiliaries to the U.S.

Boykin Tapped as Next Newport News President
Huntington Ingalls Industries’ (HII) Board of Directors has elected Jennifer R. Boykin to serve as executive vice president of HII and president of HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division, effective July 1. She will succeed Matt Mulherin, who announced that he will retire on August 1 after a 36-year career at Newport News Shipbuilding. Boykin, who will report to HII President and CEO Mike Petters effective July 1, currently serves as vice president, engineering and design for Newport News Shipbuilding.
NSRP Selects Next Round of Shipbuilding R&D Projects
The Executive Control Board of the National Shipbuilding Research Program (NSRP) has selected a new round of research and development projects for award, as part of the program's continuing mission to reduce costs associated with U. S. shipbuilding and ship repair. These new projects, valued at over $14.5 million, including cost share, were among those proposed in response to Research Announcement 14-01, issued in June 2015. Objective: This project is a follow-on to the HiDep Weld Tfillet and Butt Weld Development RA project. It aims to implement the results of the new welding process to reduce weld distortion and improve productivity in shipyard panel construction. The new process utilizes induction heating technology and has minimal capital cost requirements.

The Executive Control Board of the National Shipbuilding Research Program (NSRP) has selected a new round of research and development projects for award, as part of the program's continuing mission to reduce costs associated with U.S. shipbuilding and ship repair. Objective: The goal of this project is to transfer a cost-saving and quality-enhancing technology from the aerospace industry to the shipbuilding industry. Goff Named NSRP Navy Program Manager
A new NSRP Navy Program Manager has been selected. Christy Goff, currently at TEAM Subs (PMS 450), will serve as NSRP Navy Program Manager, replacing Connie Bowling, who retired in December after 40-plus years of Department of Defense service. National Shipbuilding Research Program Issues Pre-Solicitation Notice
In advance of the next National Shipbuilding Research Program (NSRP) Research Announcement, which the Executive Control Board plans to issue in the June 1, 2012, timeframe, a pre-solicitation notice has been issued. The Research Announcement will solicit summary proposals to respond to priorities in the program’s Strategic Investment Plan, including areas of particular interest which will be identified in the Research Announcement. The overall strategy for the Pre-Solicitation period involves dissemination of the revised proposal preparation, submission and selection processes, and the creation of opportunities for potential project team members to engage with one another and with industry representatives on possible R&D project ideas.

NSRP White Paper Solicitation
The NSRP Executive Control Board (ECB) invites the 10 NSRP Ship Production Panels to submit whitepapers to be considered for funding as NSRP Panel Projects. Submissions must be in accordance with the latest NSRP Panel Project Guide (Rev. G dated 7/15/2010). The ECB continues to strongly support the Panels by providing funding for projects that are not well suited for funding via the major project solicitation process, yet address the program’s objectives for improving technology, networking, knowledge-sharing and innovation within the industry and the Navy, as well as working with regulatory agencies to the betterment of industry, employees and the environment.
