United States based commodities trader Hudson Shipping Lines (HSL) became a member of the Trident Alliance as part of the company’s ongoing ‘green’ initiatives.The shipping company is increasing its commitment to cleaning up the shipping industry in conjunction with two environmental organizations. Hudson has recently joined the Trident Alliance as a member.“The shipping industry has a tremendous opportunity to improve its impact upon the world with the IMO 2020 sulfur cap. Hudson believes it has a responsibility to encourage companies and countries to comply with both the letter and also the spirit of the sulfur rules,” said company President, Avi Eilon.

Central to the impending 2020 global sulfur cap are requirements to reduce the sulfur oxide (SOx) emissions from ships. Installation of exhaust gas cleaning systems (EGCS), commonly referred to as scrubbers, is a potential solution for owners looking to comply with the upcoming requirements. This updated Advisory includes background on air emission regulations and explores the different types of available scrubber technologies along with the associated installation and operational challenges for each.

The Harris Pye Engineering Group is currently engaged in turnkey scrubber installation packages for major cruise line companies. On August 3, 2016 Harris Pye completed the installation of an Advanced Emission Purification System, fully automated, which was duly DNV GL certified which met with MARPOL regulation 14 of Annex V1 for the control of emissions complying to regulations 14.1 or 14.4. The design package for open and closed loop systems was utilized to model and fabricate all piping systems, hardware integration, and major/minor steelworks.
