Oceans 2013 MTS/IEEE Update

There will be more tham 450 papers, presentations and posters, plus exhibitions by industry, academia, nonprofits and government agencies. The Marine Technology Society will use the occasion to celebrate its 50th Anniversary. Numerous special events complement the rich technical and scientific presentations. The Tuesday through Thursday Technical Program will feature 23 Special Sessions, including Ships-to-Reefs, Ultra-deep Exploration, International Business, San Diego Maritime History and Technology Transfer. More than 200 exhibit booths fill the two Exhibit Halls.

Statoil Expands Brazil Offshore Exploration

Statoil expands  its exploration portfolio with the acquisition of 25% participating interest from Vale SA in BM-ES-22A in the Espirito Santo Basin offshore Brazil. BM-ES-22A is comprised of the two Blocks ES-M-468 and ES-M-527. Petrobras is the operator with 75% equity and Vale holds a 25% share. It is located in the Outer Espirito Santo Basin partially adjacent to the BM-ES-32 license where Statoil is partner and which holds the Indra discovery. “The acquisition allows Statoil to expand its position in a prioritised basin for Statoil.

ExxonMobil Inks Deepwater Deal

According to reports, ExxonMobil's subsidiary, Esso Exploration International Limited, and Mitra Energy Limited (MEL) have entered into an agreement to explore for hydrocarbons in the deepwater Sandakan Basin southwest of the Philippine Islands. Under terms of the recently signed farm-in agreement, an ExxonMobil affiliate has acquired a 50 percent operating interest in Block SC 56. MEL retains a 50 percent equity interest in the block and will operate the 2D seismic acquisition phase of the exploration program. The oil exploration agreement covers approximately two million acres and is subject to approval by the Philippines Department of Energy. Source: Rigzone
