Glamox to Illuminate Havfram Wind's Newbuild WTIVs

Lighting solutions specialist Glamox has won a contract from the Chinese shipbuilder Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore Limited to light Havfram Wind’s two new Wind Turbine Installation Vessels (WTIV). These new vessels will be capable of installing the next generation of giant wind turbines with rotor blades of more than 300 meters in diameter. The interiors and exteriors of each Havfram NG-20000X-HF vessel will be fitted with around 3,300 Glamox energy-efficient LED luminaires, helping to ensure safe operations with a low carbon footprint.The two Havfram Wind jack-up WTIVs…

Techcross Retrofits BWMS in Tanker's Engine Room

Ballast water management system company Techcross said it has installed a BWMS in the engine room of an existing tanker. This installation method, called the “Engine Room Solution”, was patented under the name of Techcross in Korea in 2016 and has been applied only to new ships so far. However, this is the first time it has been applied to an existing ship.One set of ECS 1000B model was installed on the 50,400 PC tanker owned by Horizon Tankers Limited S.A. (under Target Marine Group), based in Greece, using Techcross’ Engine Room Solution.

Crowley ATB Equipped with Markey Mooring Winches

Markey Machine said it recently won an order for a set of split mooring winches and an anchor windlass to be installed on board one of Crowley’s ATB barges Oliver Leavitt. The winches replaced a set of electric mooring winches.The ATB, including tug Aveogan, was constructed at the Bollinger Marine Fabricators facility in Amelia, La., and delivered to Crowley in 2020. Crowley operates the ATB under a long-term charter for Alaska-based Petro Star Inc.The decision in Markey’s favor was “operations-based: tied to historic performance,” Crowley reported.

ClassNK Grants Remote Survey Notation for "K" Line's Car Carrier

Classification society ClassNK has granted its Remote Survey (RMSV) notation for "Century Highway Green", an LNG-fueled Pure Car Carrier (PCC) operated by Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, (“K” LINE). SAAM’s New Tug Christened

The first Ridley Island Propane Export Terminal (RIPET) in Canada was inaugurated and SAAM's new tug, the Tsmishian Warrior, was christened.The tug will provide services at the terminal, which is owned by the Canadian company Altagas —leader in energy infrastructure in North America— and the dutch firm Vopak.“SAAM closed a contract with RIPET, which included construction of this new tug. UZMAR Joins Robert Allan Century Club

UZMAR SHIPYARD of Turkey has officially joined the Robert Allan Ltd. Century Club, with construction underway on its 100th tug to a Robert Allan Ltd. design. This new tug is a RAstar 3200-W destined for service on Canada’s West Coast with SAAM-SMIT Canada. This milestone tug, expected to be delivered in early 2019, represents the state-of-the-art in the design and construction of ASD escort tugs in a sub-500 GRT hull. With its RAstar hull and deep skeg, the design is optimized for generating high indirect escort forces and is also capable of providing towing operations from the stern. The tug features gas detection, explosion-proof deck equipment, off-ship fire-fighting capability, and one of the first applications of an IMO Tier III emissions compliant propulsion package on a tug.

Uzmar to Build Escort Tug for Saam Smit Canada

Turkish shipbuilder Uzmar Shipyard has inked a deal with Saam Smit Canada Inc. (SST Canada), a joint venture partnership between Boskalis of the Netherlands and Saam S.A of Chile, for the construction of a new escort tug for operations in British Columbia, Canada. Designer Robert Allan Ltd. said the state-of-the-art RAstar 3200-W tug will be capable of safely performing all ship-handling roles, including berthing, unberthing and escort duties, including in heavier weather conditions.

New Explosion Proof LED Light Fixture

Industrial lighting company Larson Electronics has released a 70 watt explosion proof LED light fixture mounted on an adjustable beam clamp to simplify mounting on existing beams. The new EPL-LP-70W-LED-HDBC-20-EPP beam clamp mounted LED fixture is weatherproof and comes with an adjustable aluminum mount that makes it suitable for industrial applications, maintenance, cleaning and servicing duties, as well as large hazardous work areas. This unit contains a 70 watt LED lamp that produces 6,000 lumens of light capable of illuminating an area of 5,000 square feet.

New Watermaker Tailored to O&G Operations

FCI Watermakers said its new Neptune+ OG is designed and built specifically for the severe conditions of offshore oil and gas operations, whether on a platform, tanker, carrier or PSV. The unit will make from 3,400 to 10,000 gallons of pure, fresh water a day, enough for production operations, equipment wash down, laboratory use, cooking and drinking, according to the manufacturer. The Neptune+ OG’s 316 stainless steel or 6061 aluminum alloy frame has built-in lifting eyes and forklift slots for easy placement.

Thyssenkrupp Involves in Panama Canal Expansion

Thyssenkrupp supplied 14 innovative elevators for expansion of the Panama Canal , seven for each new lock complex, one of which is on the Atlantic side and the other on the Pacific. Traffic through the locks will be monitored from two control towers that can be accessed via two elevators. The other elevators are installed at several points along the locks. “The elevators descend to a depth of roughly 50 meters and are then connected by tunnels known as “crossunders” running beneath the lock chambers, which hold millions of liters of water,” said Peter Bjorn, Vice President of New Installation & Modernizations with the Elevator Technology business division of thyssenkrupp for Latin America.

Surveys without Scaffolds: Ship Tanks Inspected with Drones

DNV GL surveyors tested a camera-equipped drone to visually evaluate structural components through video streamed to a tablet. One surveyor operated the drone, while a second checked the video feed in real time.

Classification society DNV GL informs it has recently completed several tests using drones to support the hull survey of two vessels. Conducted by the classification team based in Gdansk, Poland, the tests took place at the Remontova shipyard, where the drones equipped with cameras were employed to visually check the condition of remote structural components. According to DNV GL, this practice has the potential to not only reduce survey times and staging costs, but at the same time improve safety for surveyors.

Kidde Fire Systems Introduces New Monitors

Kidde Fire Systems  launched a new control head monitor (CHM) for electric actuators and solenoid monitors for directional valves. The new CHM is fully compliant with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 2001-2012 Standard on Clean Agent Fire Extinguishing Systems and is designed for simple installation on existing Kidde systems. According to the company, electric actuators are commonly used as activating devices for the release of a fire suppression agent in the event of a fire and the NFPA requires these devices to be in place and ready to activate.

Larson Electronics Debuts Multi-colored Explosion Proof Signal Light with horn

Larson Electronics released a new multi-colored hazardous location LED signal light with a 110dBA audible horn. The HAL-TL-5X10W-C-PA from Larson Electronics is a Class 1 Division 2 hazardous location LED signal stack light equipped with an audible horn and approved for use in hazardous environments where explosive and flammable gases, vapors, and dusts may occasionally be present. This hazardous location stack light is designed for routing traffic in industrial refueling stations and processing status indications in manufacturing facilities. The signal light is equipped with five 10 watt LED lamps, producing an amber, red, blue, green, and white light output.

Crowley Orders BWT System Retrofits

Crowley Maritime Corporation has entered into strategic partnership agreement with South Korean-based green technology developer Panasia Co., Ltd. for ballast water treatment systems to be installed during retrofitting of its ATB fleet. The agreement also includes technical services, engineering, integration, commissioning, training, scheduled delivery and spare parts. Panasia GloEn-Patrol treatment system utilizes a filter to remove 50 micron or larger size organisms and medium-pressure UV lamps to disinfect smaller organisms.
