Chabahar Port Begins Commercial Operations

Commercial operations began at ndia Ports Global Chabahar Free Zone (IPGCFZ), at Chabahar with the arrival of a vessel after Government of India took over the operations.A Cyprus registered bulk carrier had arrived at Chabahar with 72458 MT of corn cargo. The vessel MV MACHERAS berthed at the terminal at 0130 hrs on 30th December 2018. Thus IPGCFZ carried out its first cargo operation by discharging the imported cargo(ex Brazil) using pneumatic un-loaders.India has written a history with its engagement in Chabahar, claimed a governement release. The physical take-over of the terminal area, cargo handling equipment and Office building was completed by 29th December 2018. The country is now leading the regional cooperation and joint efforts to support land locked Afghanistan.

India, China Open Maritime Talks

Amid enduring tensions over the South China Sea, India and China held inaugural round of talks on maritime cooperation on February 04 in New Delhi. The meeting of New Delhi and Beijing officials covered a gamut of issues of "mutual interest and prospects for maritime cooperation between the two countries", an official statement said. "The dialogue covered exchange of perspectives on maritime security, developments in international regimes such as the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and prospects for maritime cooperation," read the statement. Indian Sailors Released from Togo

The Union Minister of Shipping Shri G.K. Vasan said Indian sailors, Capt. Sunil James and Shri Andi Vijayan, have been released from West African country Togo. The sailors were released this morning at 2. a.m. (Indian Standard Time) and will reportedly arrive back in India tomorrow morning. The release followed the intervention of the Prime Minister and follow-up by the External Affairs Ministry. The Minister had been intensely monitoring the progress of the release of these two sailors and the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) has been closely coordinating with the family of Capt. James and the Embassy of India in Accra, Ghana . As a gesture from the Government of India, officials from the DGS have been deputed to receive Capt. James at Mumbai and Shri Vijayan at Kochi.
