Port of Gdynia Seeking Partner for Outer Port Development Project

The Port of Gdynia Authority (PGA) in Poland has recently launched a formal procedure to select a private partner for the construction of the outer port in the Port of Gdynia.The project is a strategic investment of the Port of Gdynia Authority S.A., and is enlisted in the Polish government’s Seaports Development Program. The outer port development project, which is being prepared as a public-private partnership, consists of the construction of a new deep-water container terminal with an annual transshipment capacity of 2.5 million TEU.

Ocean Tankers Seeks to Reclaim $19 Mln from Lim Family

Lim Family Seeks to Halt Law Firm from Taking Court Role

Members of Singapore’s Lim family have asked a court to stop law firm Rajah & Tann Singapore LLP (R&T) from working for court-appointed supervisors to two companies in the Lim’s embattled oil trading empire, Evan Lim Chee Meng told Reuters.Lim and his sister, Lim Huey Ching, filed an application to restrain R&T from acting for the judicial managers of fleet manager Ocean Tankers Pte Ltd, Lim said in an email on Friday. A similar application had been made in regard to oil trader Hin Leong Trading Pte Ltd, he said.They filed application on behalf of Ocean Tankers and Hin Leong Trading. Ocean Tankers' Supervisor to Start Restructuring Talks with Owners

EY, the court-appointed supervisor for Ocean Tankers Pte Ltd (OTPL), has proposed two restructuring options to the shipping company's owners and could meet with them as early as next week to discuss the plans, according to an EY report seen by Reuters.The discussions are to ascertain whether the owners - Lim Oon Kuin, his son Evan Lim Chee Meng and daughter Lim Huey Ching, or the Lim family - are "willing to support any future restructuring of OTPL", the report said.EY declined to comment. Its lawyers, Rajah and Tann did not immediately respond to a request for comment.Evan Lim, the director of Ocean Tankers, said in an email that the Lim family would make it known if it decided to release a statement on the report.

Oil & Gas M&A Deal Value Up in 2018

Oil and Gas Digital Investment Set to Surge

Global oil and gas executives are preparing to accelerate their investment in digital technologies, primarily as they seek to double down on their cost-saving ambitions.An EY survey of 100 global oil and gas executives found that 89 percent expect to step up their investment in digital over the next two years.Despite oil prices reaching more attractive levels during the third quarter of 2018, operational efficiency remains a top priority owing to a legacy of falling prices in recent years.Forty-two percent of survey respondents say their primary motivation for investment in digital is to improve efficiency, while 55 percent say that their priority for technology investment will be focused around operational improvement.

Boskalis Nominates van Noort as New CFO

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. has nominated Carlo van Noort to be appointed as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Boskalis at the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (AGM) in May 2019. The term of the current CFO, Hans Kamps, expires on the date of that same AGM.van Noort is currently financial director of Boskalis Nederland. The Port of Rotterdam Authority has signed partnership agreements with four recent participants in the annual PortXL innovation programme. The products developed by these promising start-ups range from compact tulip-shaped wind turbines to blockchain applications for freight tracking. Rotterdam Port Contracts Four PortXL Start-ups

The Port of Rotterdam Authority is entering into a partnership with four start-ups for the development of as many innovative projects. Along with six other starters, these companies took part in the port-related accelerator programme PortXL and presented their results during yesterday’s ‘Shakedown’. The ten selected start-ups made amazing progress in the three month long PortXL programme. In fact, nine of them saw their efforts rewarded with a contract with organisations such as Van Oord, Vopak, Boskalis, Alliander and Stena Line. The Port of Rotterdam Authority backed four further developments. Pilot contracts were signed with virtual-reality training programme Parable and maritime-augmented-reality provider FEO AR.

Autonomous Shipping: Don’t Miss the Boat

The Norwegian company Yara is currently building a full-electrical containership fitted with an autonomous control system: the Yara Birkeland. During a recent visit to a major maritime conference, imagine my surprise when most attendees – some 200 executives from the maritime sector – discussed autonomous shipping in terms of its risks. The room seemed full of objections and doubts. What if the computer malfunctions? Somewhat understandable in view of the pressure put on the sector by strong international competition and slim margins. Existing companies are used to a certain turnover.

DP World to Expand in African Market

DP World Group Chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem has met with Senegalese President Macky Sall as part of a tour of West and North Africa to confirm development of infrastructure projects in the country. The discussions, attended by Prime Minister Mohammed Dionne and senior government officials, confirmed the plan for Port Du Futur with construction to start before the end of 2018 together with agreement on land allocation for the associated freezone. Meanwhile, DP World will also provide a master plan for redevelopment of the old port of Dakar. Other topics included customs and logistics in the country. Port de Futur will be a multi-purpose port with an economic zone and logistics zone adjacent to new Blaise Diagne International Airport.
