Cummins Working with Ocean Infinity on Methanol Retrofit Project

Finnlines’ Second New Superstar RoPax Vessel Launched

Finnlines’ second new Superstar passenger-freight vessel, Finncanopus, was launched on Friday at the China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Weihai. The new Superstar class ro-pax vessels, along with sister vessel Finnsirius launched in August 2022—both part of Finnlines’ €500-million investment program—will enter service in 2023, serving the Naantali–Långnäs–Kapellskär route between Finland, Åland Islands and Sweden.Both vessels have capacity for 1,100 passengers, which is the double compared with the current vessels on the route. Each vessel has 323 passenger cabins and 64 crew cabins.

DOT Announces $703M in Port Funding; 41 Projects in 22 States

U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) announced more than $703 million to fund 41 projects in 22 states and one territory that designed to help improve port facilities through the Maritime Administration’s Port Infrastructure Development Program. Falmouth Completes Successful Cruise Season

More than 30 vessels carrying over 14,000 passengers in total chose to call in at Falmouth Cruise Port, Australia as part of their 2019 programme and even more have already booked for next year.The cruise ship operations are managed by FDEC (Falmouth Docks and Engineering Company) which is part of the A&P Group. FDEC is a statutory harbour authority, responsible for the area of water immediately surrounding Falmouth Docks. Oil and Gas Projects to Triple in 2019

A surge in final investment decisions (FIDs) this year on new petroleum projects worldwide could see sanctioned volumes of oil and gas – excluding shale and tight oil and gas prospects – nearly triple compared to last year’s tally.The collective volumes could swell past 46 billion barrels of oil equivalent (boe), according to research conducted by Rystad Energy.“We expect global FID volumes in 2019 to triple over last year, and 2019’s megaproject awards could lead to billions of subcontracting dollars in coming years,” said Rystad Energy upstream research analyst Readul Islam.He added: “The only supply segment likely to shrink this year is the oil sands, whereas deepwater, offshore shelf and other conventional onshore developments are all poised to show substantial growth.

Port of Duqm, Shell Oman to Develop Fuel Bunkering Facilities

Shell Oman Marketing Company SAOG signed an agreement with Port of Duqm Company SAOC (PDC) to develop fuel bunkering facilities and services.The downstream oil marketing company in the Sultanate said in a press release that agreement was signed by Dr. Mohammed Mahmood Al Balushi, Chief Executive Officer of SOM, and Reggy Vermeulen, CEO of PDC.The agreement establishes bunkering terminal to provide different grades of quality fuels and lubricants as well as other ancillary facilities to marine liners calling at Port of Duqm, a 50:50 joint venture between the Oman Government and Port of Antwerp Consortium.Dr. Mohammed Mahmood Al Balushi…

DP World Opens Limassol Passenger Terminal

The new cruise passenger terminal at DP World Limassol was inaugurated today by Cyprus President, His Excellency Mr. Nicos Anastasiades; Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Mrs. Vassiliki Anastassiadou; the Mayor of Limassol, Nicos Nicolaides and DP World Group Chairman and CEO, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem. The operational opening of the terminal was attended by almost 300 guests and will enable the largest cruise ships in the world to visit the country for the first time. It provides world-class facilities and services for passengers and features seven pods with a total floor area of 8,205 m2. The terminal is designed to facilitate both Transit (day call) and Turnaround (home porting) services.

Encik Rezza Resigns as ED of Bumi Armada Berhad

Malaysia-based international offshore energy facilities and services provider Bumi Armada Berhad has announced the resignation of Encik Shaharul Rezza bin Hassan, Executive Director and Head of Offshore Marine Services (OMS) of Bumi Armada Berhad. Encik Rezza will officially relinquish his roles at the Group on the 28 of February 2018. He has requested an early release from the Group to pursue other interests outside the Group. Rezza joined Bumi Armada in September 2005 and prior to his current role as Head of the OMS business, he was the CFO. Bumi Armada Bags Additional Contract from Lukoil

Bumi Armada Bhd’s wholly-owned unit, Bumi Armada Caspian LLC, has signed a supplementary agreement worth RM576 million (USD 134 million) with Lukoil-Nizhnevolzhskneft LLC (Lukoil) for an additional engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) scope of work in Russia. Back in December 2013, Bumi Armada had bagged a 10-year, US$262 million contract from Russia’s Lukoil-Nizhnevolzhskneft Ltd. Bumi Armada said the additional scope will involve BAC’s marine spread to lay subsea pipelines and undertake post trenching and back-filling works on sections of the Filanovsky field in the Russian sector of the Caspian Sea. LR to Perform Armada Olombendo FPSO Risk Inspection

Lloyd's Register has won an inspection contract with Bumi Armada Berhad for its Armada Olombendo FPSO. The contract agreement provides Bumi Armada with access to Lloyd’s Register’s risk-based inspection services and technical software which will help to develop quantifiable risk profiles. These profiles will give critical knowledge and insight for Bumi Armada Berhad’s management team on how best to approach short and long term CAPEX/OPEX decisions. The built-in risk inspection strategies used in the contract with Lloyd’s Register also provides a robust template for Bumi Armada Berhad’s baseline inspections and maintenance program while ensuring resources are focused on the high priority items first.

Port Klang's throughput surge to 13.2m TEU

Port Klang Authority stated that Port Klang registered a positive growth of 10.8% in 2016 in container handling compared to 2015 with a total of 13,169,577 TEU’s, Northport handled 3,223,544 TEU’s while Westports handled 9,946,033 TEU’s. In terms of import container throughput, Port Klang handled 2,063,736 TEU’s,registering growth of 3.6 % compared to 2015’s performance - Northport handled 802,993 TEU’s while Westports handled 1,260,743 TEU’s in 2016. TEU’s compared to 2015; Northport handled 760,148 TEU’s and Westports handled 1,278,379 TEU’s. Port Klang handled 9,067,314 TEU’s in terms of Transshipment throughput in 2016, registering a growth of 14.3 % compared to 2015; Northport handled 1,660,403 TEU’s and Westports handled 7,406,911 TEU’s. state of the art cargo handling equipment.

Bumi Armada Berhad, Malaysia-based international offshore energy facilities and services provider celebrated the naming ceremony of the Armada Olombendo Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) last weekend. Armada Olombendo FPSO represents Bumi Armada’s largest FPSO and it will operate in Angola on Block 15/06, East Hub, a wide area of 2,984 square-kilometer (km2) in the Angolan deep offshore, located approximately 350 km northwest of Luanda and 130 kilometer west of Soyo.

China Issues Guidance on Arctic Navigation

On April 5, China issued “Guidances on Arctic navigation in the Northwest route 2015”, which provides navigation information services for international navigation ships planned navigating in Arctic waters. The Northwest Passage, a sea route connecting the northern Atlantic and Pacific Oceans through the Arctic Ocean, along the northern coast of North America, is becoming more attractive for shipping as global warming melts the ice cover and keeps the route navigable for longer periods.

Abu Dhabi Port 2015 Box Traffic Up Sharply

Container volumes rose by 32 percent at Abu Dhabi's Khalifa Port in 2015 buoyed by industrial and infrastructure development in the emirate, operator Abu Dhabi Ports said on Wednesday. Built on a man-made island, Khalifa Port handled 1.50 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit containers), up from 1.13 million a year earlier, it said in a statement. Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates, is investing billions in industry, infrastructure and tourism as it diversifies its economy away from oil. "Imports and exports due to the huge infrastructure and industrial projects contributed to the growth in container volumes," said Mohamed Juma al Shamisi, chief executive of Abu Dhabi Ports. Improved shipyard and terminal facilities and services also helped, he said.
