Finnlines’ second new Superstar passenger-freight vessel, Finncanopus, was launched on Friday at the China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Weihai. The new Superstar class ro-pax vessels, along with sister vessel Finnsirius launched in August 2022—both part of Finnlines’ €500-million investment program—will enter service in 2023, serving the Naantali–Långnäs–Kapellskär route between Finland, Åland Islands and Sweden.Both vessels have capacity for 1,100 passengers, which is the double compared with the current vessels on the route. Each vessel has 323 passenger cabins and 64 crew cabins.

A surge in final investment decisions (FIDs) this year on new petroleum projects worldwide could see sanctioned volumes of oil and gas – excluding shale and tight oil and gas prospects – nearly triple compared to last year’s tally.The collective volumes could swell past 46 billion barrels of oil equivalent (boe), according to research conducted by Rystad Energy.“We expect global FID volumes in 2019 to triple over last year, and 2019’s megaproject awards could lead to billions of subcontracting dollars in coming years,” said Rystad Energy upstream research analyst Readul Islam.He added: “The only supply segment likely to shrink this year is the oil sands, whereas deepwater, offshore shelf and other conventional onshore developments are all poised to show substantial growth.

The new cruise passenger terminal at DP World Limassol was inaugurated today by Cyprus President, His Excellency Mr. Nicos Anastasiades; Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Mrs. Vassiliki Anastassiadou; the Mayor of Limassol, Nicos Nicolaides and DP World Group Chairman and CEO, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem. The operational opening of the terminal was attended by almost 300 guests and will enable the largest cruise ships in the world to visit the country for the first time. It provides world-class facilities and services for passengers and features seven pods with a total floor area of 8,205 m2. The terminal is designed to facilitate both Transit (day call) and Turnaround (home porting) services.

Malaysia-based international offshore energy facilities and services provider Bumi Armada Berhad has announced the resignation of Encik Shaharul Rezza bin Hassan, Executive Director and Head of Offshore Marine Services (OMS) of Bumi Armada Berhad. Encik Rezza will officially relinquish his roles at the Group on the 28 of February 2018. He has requested an early release from the Group to pursue other interests outside the Group. Rezza joined Bumi Armada in September 2005 and prior to his current role as Head of the OMS business, he was the CFO. Bumi Armada Bhd’s wholly-owned unit, Bumi Armada Caspian LLC, has signed a supplementary agreement worth RM576 million (USD 134 million) with Lukoil-Nizhnevolzhskneft LLC (Lukoil) for an additional engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) scope of work in Russia. Back in December 2013, Bumi Armada had bagged a 10-year, US$262 million contract from Russia’s Lukoil-Nizhnevolzhskneft Ltd. Bumi Armada said the additional scope will involve BAC’s marine spread to lay subsea pipelines and undertake post trenching and back-filling works on sections of the Filanovsky field in the Russian sector of the Caspian Sea. Bumi Armada Berhad, Malaysia-based international offshore energy facilities and services provider celebrated the naming ceremony of the Armada Olombendo Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) last weekend. Armada Olombendo FPSO represents Bumi Armada’s largest FPSO and it will operate in Angola on Block 15/06, East Hub, a wide area of 2,984 square-kilometer (km2) in the Angolan deep offshore, located approximately 350 km northwest of Luanda and 130 kilometer west of Soyo.

Container volumes rose by 32 percent at Abu Dhabi's Khalifa Port in 2015 buoyed by industrial and infrastructure development in the emirate, operator Abu Dhabi Ports said on Wednesday. Built on a man-made island, Khalifa Port handled 1.50 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit containers), up from 1.13 million a year earlier, it said in a statement. Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates, is investing billions in industry, infrastructure and tourism as it diversifies its economy away from oil. "Imports and exports due to the huge infrastructure and industrial projects contributed to the growth in container volumes," said Mohamed Juma al Shamisi, chief executive of Abu Dhabi Ports. Improved shipyard and terminal facilities and services also helped, he said.
