Steel Cut on First of Three ISVs for KT Maritime

A steel cutting ceremony held last week at the Singapore shipyard of partner company, ASL Shipyard Pte Ltd. marked the start of construction for the first of three infield support vessels (ISVs) being constructed by Perth-based KT Maritime Services Australia Pty Ltd to support Shell’s Prelude FLNG project near Broome. KT Maritime Services Australia Director, Mark Thomas, said this major contract for the design, construction and operation of the three 42-meter, 100-metric-tonne bollard-pull ISVs at the Prelude site 475km north-north east of Broome was a major milestone for the company.

Statoil awards contracts for support services within HR

Statoil has decided to outsource certain tasks within the Human Resources (HR) function, and awards two new contracts to external suppliers. The number of full time positions in Statoil in Norway that will be affected is 69, in addition to 10 positions internationally. Around 2/3 of affected employees will be offered employment with the new vendors, either through transfer of undertakings or offer of employment. Increased use of outsourcing to external vendors is aimed at strengthening Statoil’s competitiveness. Previously in 2014 the decision was made to outsource services within IT, facility management and finance & control. The transfer of these services to new suppliers are currently ongoing.

The work to be performed provides for base operations support services including public safety, harbor security, security operations, supply, personnel support, facilities support, facility management/facility investment, other (swimming pools), pavement clearance, utilities, chiller, electrical, wastewater, steam, water, telecommunications, compressed air, base support vehicles and equipment, and environmental. McCain Urges for More Offshore Drilling

The Wall Street Journal reported that John McCain again issued a plea for more offshore oil drilling, suggesting it would not take long for consumers to see the benefits. McCain did not mention that the most promising spots for quick offshore production are off the coast of , where state and local officials oppose the drilling. McCain wants to lift the federal ban and leave the decision to the states. While there is increasing support for drilling off the coast of , it would take years to explore and drill new wells in the . McCain made his comments after meeting with officials from the California Independent Producers Association and San Joaquin Facility Management in .

Van Tol Honored for 30 Years of Service

Arie Van Tol, a veteran Port Authority employee who currently manages the New York Marine Terminals, has been honored for more than 30 years of distinguished service to the bistate agency and the maritime community, Port Commerce Director Richard M. Larrabee announced today. Larrabee presented Van Tol, a Montville, N.J., resident, with the Lillian C. Borrone Award, given to individuals who render unusually effective service to the port community. The award is named for Lillian C. Borrone, a longtime director of the Port Authority’s Port Commerce Department who retired in 2001. “Arie is the consummate maritime industry professional who cares deeply about the Port Authority’s maritime terminal facilities and its tenants,” Mr. Larrabee said.
