Valmet will supply automation and information systems for two luxury expedition vessels being built by Helsinki Shipyard Oy in Finland for Russia’s largest river cruise company Vodohod Ltd.The 113-meter-long and 20.2-meter-wide vessels will have an ice class of PC5 and a passenger capacity of 157 persons. Boat-handling systems supplier Vestdavit announced the acquisition of Tritec Production. The acquisition covers a complete steel fabrication, engineering and construction facility in Redzikowo, Poland, from where Tritec has been supporting Vestdavit as its principal davit assembly partner for more than a decade.“With 65 dedicated employees specializing in steel-structure manufacturing, hydraulic and mechanical assembly, and the factory-acceptance testing required for davits from 1 to 16 tons, Tritec is a worthy addition to our enterprise,” says Vestdavit Managing Director Rolf Andreas Wigand.

Australia’s new multirole aviation training vessel MV Sycamore has recently arrived in Sydney. Designed to support Defence helicopter training, having been launched in Vietnam in August 2016, built by Skelder and overseen by Serco Defence, the 94-metre ship is a flight deck equipped sea-going training vessel for the crews of most types of helicopters used by the Australian Defence Force. Captain Al Whittaker said building of the Damen-designed steel ship began in 2015. “Sycamore has completed its harbour acceptance testing, systems factory acceptance testing and the shipyard acceptance tests,” he said. The ship arrived in Sydney on June 26, where her flag state was changed to the Australian Maritime Safety Authority’s red ensign.

Northrop Grumman Corporation's Sperry Marine business unit has been selected to design and supply gyrocompass navigation systems for 12  Kingston Class coastal defence vessels for the Royal Canadian Navy, as a subcontractor to SNC-Lavalin Defence Programs Inc. The contract will include Dual NAVIGAT X MK1 gyrocompass systems, NAVITWIN IV Heading Management Systems and a complete suite of Heading Repeaters. MAN Diesel & Turbo reports that its ME-GI engine has now received more than 100 orders. FLEX LNG announced on February 2 that two-stroke slow-speed ME-GI main engines will be used as the propulsion system for two LNG carriers to be built at Samsung Heavy Industries. Kongsberg Maritime has purchased approximately 5.2 acres for new construction on an 82,980 sq ft office and training facility. Construction on the James Business Park property located on James Drive East in St. Rose, Louisiana is scheduled to begin this spring. Kongsberg Maritime moved its service department from Houston to Louisiana in 2003 establishing a small office in James Business Park with nine full-time employees. Growing together with local customers, the Louisiana office now has 110 employees occupying 35,000 sq ft of leased office space.

DMW Marine Group announced it has completed factory acceptance testing on four of its model M400.24A4 cranes with DNV OS E101 certification and type approval. Nautilus Minerals Inc. will begin assembling its third and final Seafloor Production Tool (SPT), the Auxiliary Cutter (AC), this week at Soil Machine Dynamics’ (SMD) facility in Newcastle in Tyne, UK. A Marine Sanitation Device (MSD) by ACT2 Technologies, of Ft. Lauderdale Florida has been fitted to Transocean's 'Discoverer Enterprise'. The Discoverer Enterprise is leased to BP and owned by Transocean. ACT2 say that they are also working on additional units for Transocean in the 200 person range. THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – May 10, 2011 – Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:TDY) announced today that its subsidiary, Teledyne Brown Engineering, Inc., in Huntsville, Ala., was awarded a $9 million contract from Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) to manufacture four Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Gun Mission Modules (GMM). Teledyne Brown will manufacture each of the modules and assemble and test them at the company’s Huntsville manufacturing facility. Each module will be equipped with a 30MM gun weapon system and two modules will be mounted on each LCS.

The Kiel 6000 ROV manufactured by Schilling Robotics, has been certified by Ger¬manischer Lloyd (GL) as meeting requirements for safety and environmental impact. The technical monitoring group GL has conducted safety surveys of thousands of ships and several ROVs, but the survey of the Kiel 6000 is the firm’s first of a work-class ROV and of an unmanned vehicle with a 6000-meter depth rating. The ROV will join the ranks of high-profile GL-certified subsea vehicles such as the 6000-meter, deep-diving, manned MIR submersibles.

American Superconductor Corporation, announced that it has supplied critical components to the Office of Naval Research (ONR) and the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division (NSWCCD) Ship Engineering Station Philadelphia for a high temperature superconductor (HTS) degaussing coil system that has successfully completed initial electrical testing onboard the USS Higgins (DDG 76), an 8,000-ton Arleigh Burke-class destroyer. Powered by AMSC’s HTS wire and magnet cable technology, the coil system will undergo U.S. Navy sea trials over the next two years on the Higgins. The development of high-temperature superconductor (HTS) motors for the United States Navy's future all-electric ships has completed a significant milestone: the Navy's initial tests of its 5-MW, 230 rpm concept demonstrator have been satisfactorily completed. The motor, developed by American Superconductor Corporation (AMSC) under a contract with the Office of Naval Research(ONR), validates the potential of HTS technology to reduce the size and weight of marine propulsion motors as well as improve their efficiency in both military and commercial marine propulsion applications. AMSC manufactured the HTS rotor system integrated with a cryogenic refrigeration system.
