Havyard OSV Delivered, Christened in Iceland
‘Polarsyssel’, a Havyard 832 L WE designed offshore supply vessel has been delivered from Havyard Ship Technology’s yard in Leirvik in Sogn to the Icelandic shipping company Fafnir Offshore. A long-term contract has been secured for the vessel, under which she will operate six months a year for the Governor of Svalbard for a period of six years. On her voyage from Tromsø to Longyearbyen, ‘Polarsyssel’ encountered both high seas and storm force winds, which put her seaworthiness to the test. Captain Kjetil Enoksen was full of praise after having put the ship to the test in the Barents Sea. ‘We experienced heavy weather during most of the passage’ the Captain said. 'Polarsyssel' is a Havyard 832 L WE design that, in principle, is equipped as a normal PSV. Norway's Havyard says it has signed a contract for the construction of a Havyard 833 WE ICE platform supply vessel with Fafnir Offshore HF. Iceland Likely to Order More PSV's
Iceland, which issued its first offshore oil and gas exploration licenses this year, seeks to become a hub for subsea explorers from Greenland to Jan Mayen. Foreign Minister Ossur Skarphedinsson announced that Icelandic companies will probably follow oil-service provider Fafnir Offshore’s 7.3 billion kronur ($59 million) purchase of the country’s first platform supply vessel (PSV) from Norway’s Havyard Group reports Bloomberg.
