Mitsui O.S.K. New Company Will Combine Crowley and SEACOR Jones Act Tank Vessel Fleets

U.S. maritime companies Crowley and SEACOR Holdings' Seabulk Tankers have created a new joint venture that combines their liquid energy and chemical transportation vessels, operations and related services into a new, independent U.S. Jones Act service provider.The new company, Fairwater Holdings, will serve the U.S. domestic market with vessels and marine transportation solutions across the petroleum and chemical trades, as well as related third-party ship management services. It will include 20 oceangoing, articulated tug-barges (ATB) and 11 tankers, many under long-term charter.

MOL Chemical Tankers to Acquire Fairfield Chemical Carriers

MOL Chemical Tankers has reached a deal to acquire the business of Fairfield-Maxwells' Fairfield Chemical Carriers in an all-cash transaction.Under the agreement, MOL Chemical Tankers would obtain 100% of the shares in Fairfield Chemical Carriers for about $400 million, subject to change depending on the price adjustment under the share purchase agreement.Fairfield Chemical Carriers’ fleet of 36 chemical tankers would dovetail with MOL Chemical Tankers’ fleet of 85 chemical tankers.

LNG Dual-fuel Chemical Tanker Launched for Fairfield

Japan's Fukuoka Shipbuilding has launched a new chemical tanker for U.S. based shipping company Fairfield Chemical Carriers (FCC).The newly built Fairchem Pioneer is FCC's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel stainless steel chemical tanker. According to FCC, the vessel's LNG propulsion technology reduces carbon dioxide emissions by up to 25% compared to traditional marine fuels.The ship is the first of two 26,300-dwt chemical tankers FCC ordered from Fukuoka Shipbuilding, with options for four additional vessels.

PGS Wins 4D Seismic Survey Gig in North Sea

Norwegian marine seismic data acquisition firm PGS has won a 4D survey contract in the North Sea.The company said Wednesday that a Ramform Titan-class vessel was scheduled to start the acquisition in early August of 2022 and complete it in mid-September.President & CEO in PGS, Rune Olav Pedersen said: "We are very pleased to be awarded this 4D contract in the North Sea. It is encouraging to see our clients securing capacity well in advance, like in this case, and we believe in a continued improvement of the contract market next year."PGS did not share the identity of the client.

Solstad Farstad ASA (SOFF) has entered into a contract with Fairfield Industries Inc. for the CSV “Normand Tonjer”. Solstad Farstad Bags New Contracts

TAQA Bratani has awarded Solstad Farstad ASA a contract for the Platform Supply Vessel PSV Far Spica (2013, PSV 08 CD Design). The contract is the duration of TAQA’s mobile drilling Campaign in the UK Sector, which is approx. 18 Months,   with expected commencement in Q1 2018. Far Spica is currently trading the North Sea Spot Market. AGR Well Management Limited has awarded SOFF a contract for the PSV Normand Aurora (2005, P105 Design). The contract duration is for 1 well firm + 1 well options supporting West Hercules in the UK Sector and the commencement is expected to take place March 2018. The firm period has an estimated duration of 75 days. Normand Aurora is currently trading the North Sea Spot Market.

Cindy's Remnants Drench Gulf Coast, Wreaking Havok

The remnants of Tropical Storm Cindy brought tornadoes and flooding to the U.S. Gulf Coast on Thursday and its heavy rains will drench much of the eastern United States in coming days, forecasters said. Flooding and road closures stretched from east Texas into northwestern Florida after Cindy made landfall early on Thursday near the Louisiana-Texas border and weakened to a tropical depression, the National Weather Service said. Cindy is expected to dump 3 to 6 inches (7.5 to 15 cm) of rain as it heads north and east into the Ohio Valley and the Appalachian Mountains through Saturday, said Brian Hurley, a weather service meteorologist. Totals could reach 9 inches (22.5 cm) in some areas. "We're looking at quite a bit of rain. That's going to be the main threat," he said.

Legislators Call for US-flag LNG Carriers

South Carolina Container Volume Up 7%

The South Carolina Ports Authority announced a fiscal year-to-date container volume increase of seven percent, with 678,033 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) handled since July. SCPA moved 164,734 TEUs in October. From a calendar year-to-date perspective, SCPA has seen container volume increase 11 percent over last year with 1,674,891 TEUs handled since January. As measured in pier containers, 93,046 boxes moved across SCPA docks last month. Fiscal year to date, SCPA has handled 382,656 pier containers for an increase of six percent over the same period last year. Non-containerized cargo tonnage also continued to climb through October, with fiscal year-to-date volumes 19 percent ahead of plan.

Maersk Seeks to Shut Janice in UK North Sea

Maersk Oil said on Wednesday it would seek regulatory permission to shut its Janice installation, which produces around 7,000 barrels per day (bpd) from three UK North Sea oilfields, as the Danish firm reviews its operations due to falling oil prices. It is one of the first North Sea oil fields to be threatened with closure due to the drop in prices, with Brent crude futures having plunged to around $43 a barrel from over $100 a barrel last June.
