SHI, Zvezda Partner in Arctic LNG 2 Carriers

South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has announced that it has signed a contract to assist Russian shipyard Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex with the construction of icebreaker LNG carriers for the Arctic LNG 2 project.According to a statement, SHI is selected by Zvezda Shipyard as the partner for the construction of Arctic LNG carriers in Russia thanks to SHI's expertise and technological prowess.The two sides have also confirmed the establishment of a joint venture for cooperation on shuttle tankers where SHI has the highest market share, making it one step closer to the Russian market."A large-scale project for developing…

Zvezda Shipyard to Build an Advanced Ice Class Tanker for Rosneft

AO Rosnefteflot, a subsidiary of Rosneft, and Zvezda shipyard signed a contract during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum for the construction of a shuttle tanker Arc6 with a deadweight of 69,000 tons. The contract provides for an option to build a second similar vessel. At the same time, a 20-year charter agreement was signed between Rosneft and Rosnefteflot. The tanker will be used for safe export of oil and petroleum products from Trebsa and Titova fields. Arc6 ice class tankers are designed for operations where ice thickness is up to 1.5 m and ambient temperature is down to -45 degrees Co. The maximum length of the tanker is 257 meters, its width is 34 meters, draft is 14 meters, height is 21 meters, speed is 15.5 knots.

Rosneft Orders Ten More Arctic Shuttle Tankers at Zvezda

Rosnefteflot, a subsidiary of Russia’s petroleum company Rosneft, has inked agreements with compatriot Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex for construction of ten Arctic shuttle tankers. At the same time Rosnefteflot and Taimyrneftegaz  signed an agreement for 20 year time chartering of these tankers. Each tankers will be with 42,000 t deadweight each. ARC7 ice class tankers are designed for operations in the conditions with ice thickness up to 1.8 m and ambient temperature of down to 45 degrees. The new series of tankers is to be used for transportation of crude produced at Paiyakhskoe field from the mouth of Enisey river along the Northern Sea Route both in the western and eastern directions.

Rosneft, Hyundai Samho Strengthen Technological Cooperation

Rosneft and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. (HSHI) signed an agreement under which the South Korean company will provide technical support in the design and construction of Aframax class vessels at the Zvezda shipyard in Bolshoy Kamen. The agreement is a legally binding document. The document was signed as a part of the development of the agreement, under which a joint venture "Zvezda-Hyundai" was established  in May 2017 between Shipbuilding Complex Zvezda and HSHI in the field of engineering and project management. Under the agreement, HSHI provides a list of technical support for the joint venture   forthe design and construction of Aframax type tankers, including those using capable of running on natural gas.

Zvezda Delivers Nuke-Sub to Russian Navy

Zvezda shipyard (Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Center) held a solemn ceremony dedicated to Submariner’s Day and to the end of overhaul of nuclear-powered cruiser Kuzbass, says press center of Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Center. CEO of Zvezda shipyard Yuri Filchenok and Acting Armaments Commander, Pacific Fleet, Rear Admiral Igor Korolev, signed the acceptance/delivery papers at the pier during the ceremony. The Project 971 submarine was laid down July 28, 1991 in Komsomolsk-on-Amur and launched May 18, 1992. The Kuzbass entered service with the Russian Navy’s Pacific Fleet on February 5, 1993 and operated in the Pacific and the Arctic.

FEPCO & Far Eastern Branch of RAS Sign Scientific and Technical Deal

Far Eastern Petrochemical Company and Far Eastern Russian Academy of Sciences division have signed an agreement on scientific and technical collaboration. As part of the agreement Far Eastern Petrochemical Company (FEPCO) and Far Eastern branch of Russian Academy of Sciences (FEBRAS) are going to realize a number of research programs relating to high-performance energy- and resource-saving technologies in the sphere of complex hydrocarbons processing. Moreover, the base of FEBRAS will be used as a site for training FEPCO specialists in the course of their doctorate studies at Academy of Sciences regional branches institutes. The term of the contract is up to 2022.

Rosneft President Meets DSME's CEO On Shipbuilding Cluster

On 15th of June, 2014 Rosneft President, Chairman of the Management Board Igor Sechin held talks with CEO of DSME Jae-ho Ko on establishment of a shipbuilding cluster. The event was also participated by Chairman of the Management Board of OJSC Gazprombank Andrey Akimov, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sovcomflot Sergey Frank, President of JSC United Shipbuilding Corporation Alexey Rakhmanov and Chairman of the Management Committee of NOVATEK Leonid Mikhelson. The parties discussed the progress of the project on establishment of a shipbuilding cluster in the Far East of Russia implementation. In particular, the proposal of Rosneft to form a single site for all shipbuilding contracts of Russian customers on the basis of OJSC Far Eastern Center of Shipbuilding.

Multi-National Consortium to Construct Russian Far East Shipyard

Russia's Rosneft, Gazprombank, Sovcomflot with Korean shipbuilding company Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. (DSME) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on key terms of co-operation to establish a shipbuilding and industrial cluster in the southern part of Primorskiy Krai (Russian Far East). The parties agreed to jointly complete the construction and launch a new shipyard – shipbuilding complex Zvezda – in 2016, to establish a Russian-Korean engineering center for shipbuilding and marine equipment for offshore projects. The companies also agreed key terms for technology exchange, localization of production and contracts placement.

Cathelco Protects Floating Nuclear Power Plant

A prototype for a series of Russian floating nuclear power stations will be protected against hull corrosion with a Cathelco impressed current cathodic protection system (ICCP). Designed to provide nuclear power in remote regions of the Arctic, the hull of the floating power plant is being constructed at the Baltiysky Zavod yard in St Petersburg. It will then be installed with two nuclear reactors providing up to 70 megawatts of electricity – enough to serve a city with a population of 200,000.
