FureBear Acquires Tanker with Larsson Shipping

FureBear, a joint venture between Swedish shipping company Furetank and Canadian shipping company Algoma, together with U.K.-based Larsson Shipping, has taken over the ownership of Algoma’s product tanker Algonorth.The 2008-built, 6,958 dwt double hull product oil tanker has arrived from Canada to trade in Northern Europe under the new name Fure Skagen.Owned by FureBear and Larsson Shipping and flying the Faroe Island flag, Fure Skagen will be commercially managed by Furetank Chartering in the Gothia Tanker Alliance.Furetank and Algoma formed the FureBear joint venture in 2022…

Wärtsilä Propulsion Solutions Chosen for New Faroe Island Trawler

Wärtsilä said it booked an order in February to provide a range of propulsion solutions for the Finnur Fridi, a new pelagic fishing trawler under construction at the Karstensen shipyard in Denmark. QFC Orders 79-meter Freezer Trawler

Norwegian naval architecture firm Skipsteknisk announced it has secured a design contract from fishing company Qikiqtaaluk Fisheries Corporation (QFC) operating out of Iqaluit on Baffin Island in Canada for itsnew state-of-the-art freezer trawler.The new multi-species factory freezer trawler Saputi II will have a carrying capacity of 800 tons of shrimps or 1,200 tons of turbot. The vessel is of ST-118 design and will have a length of 79 meters and a beam of 17 meters.The trawler will be built with heavy ice-class and designed for operation in severe climatic conditions in the Bay of Baffin…

Volvo Penta Powers Hybrid Scandinavian Ferries

Volvo Penta to power three hybrid and hybrid-ready ferries currently being built at GS Marine Production AS. GS Marine is currently building a new ferry for Faroe Island operator, Standfaraskip Landsins. This ferry will have a speed of 20 knots and be powered by two of Volvo Penta’s engines. The D13-700 IMO III engines have a power output of 515kW at 2,250 rpm and will be coupled with a Brunvoll hybrid control system – allowing the vessel to run on the engines or electric alone, and even both in unison.

Eimskip, Royal Arctic Line Pact Okayed

The oldest shipping company in Iceland Eimskipafélag Íslands (The Icelandic Steamship Company), also known as Eimskip, said that its collaboration with the national carrier of Greenland Royal Arctic Line and an Icelandic shipping company has been approved by the Icelandic authorities.As part of the cooperation, three 2,150 TEU container vessels are being built in China with expected delivery late 2019. Two vessel are being built for Eimskip and one for Royal Arctic Line.The vessels will be used in weekly services between Greenland, Iceland, Faroe Island and Scandinavia. Vestdavit Secures Besiktas Seismic Chase Boat Davit Orders

Norway-based boat handling system and specialized davit supplier Vestdavit was contracted to supply work boat and man overboard davits for four specially designed chase vessels which will support Norwegian seismic major PGS’ fleet of seismic ships. The ships are to be built at Turkey’s Besiktas Gemi Insa A. S.  yard for Faroe Island shipowner P/F Thor, which has chartered the vessels to PGS. Vestdavit Area Sales Manager Sven Arild Wågsæther said, “The workboat davit for each vessel will be our PLR-15000 davit with a SWL of 15 tons.

Izar Launches Faroe Island Ferry

IZAR San Fernando Shipyard recently celebrated the launching of the Ropax ferry for the Ministry of Trade and Industry of the Faroe Island, that will be operated by Strandfaraskip Landsins. This ship that means the introduction of the yard in the conventional ferry sector has been designed to operate in harsh weather conditions. This RoPax ferry has capacity for nearly 1,000 passengers and 200 cars. The accommodation area is distributed in two decks and includes huge lounges and 34 cabins. A stationary area in the main deck and mobile car-decks compose the cargo space.
