Yanmar Delivers Dual-Fuel Tugboat Propulsion Engines

Japan-based Yanmar has delivered two 6EY26DF dual-fuel commercial marine engines with the ability to use both heavy fuel oil (HFO) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuels for the LNG tugboat. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) will take delivery of the vessel once construction is completed in February 2019 with the tugboat expected to commence operation in April 2019.Yanmar has also received orders for the LNG fuel tanks, buffer tanks, and gas combustion devices that make up the LNG fuel feed systems for the engines.The MOL-owned vessel will be manufactured by Kanagawa Dockyard Co., Ltd. and operated by Nihon Tug-Boat Co., Ltd. with Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. providing the LNG fuel.

CIC on Propulsion & Auxiliary Machinery

A Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) on “Propulsion and Auxiliary Machinery” has been announced by the Paris MoU and Tokyo MoU and will commence on 1st September 2013. The 45 Maritime Authorities of the Paris and the Tokyo Memoranda of Understanding on Port State Control (PSC) will begin a joint concentrated inspection campaign with the purpose to ensure compliance with SOLAS Chapter II-1. The duration of this inspection campaign will be three months, ending on 30th November 2013. Members should note that other PSC MoU’s will also carry out a CIC on the same topic during this period. Seville Delivers RoPax Ferry

Seville has delivered the largest RoPax ferry ever sailing under Spanish flag to its owner, Trasmediterranea. IZAR's Seville yard delivered the vessel on March 14, yard number 291, the 6,900 dwt RoPax Murillo, and will join Trasmediterranea fleet ahead of its scheduled delivery for next May. As the largest RoPax vessel ever owned by a Spanish company and sailing under Spanish flag, it exceeds the dimensions of any other vessel in Trasmediterranea's fleet, including the recently-delivered 564 ft. RoPax sisters Sorolla and Fortuny. Seville has introduced improvements in cargo and accommodation capacities on the Murillo, a project which followed the design carried out on the Merchant series of four vessels for Cenargo. Payload cargo has also been increased.

IZAR's Seville yard has delivered the largest RoPax ferry ever to sail under Spanish flag to owner Trasmediterranea. IZAR's delivered on March 14 its yard number 291, the 6,900 dwt RoPax Murillo. As the largest RoPax vessel ever owned by a Spanish company and sailing under Spanish flag, it exceeds the dimensions of any other vessel in Trasmediterranea's fleet, even the recently delivered 564-ft. (172-m) RoPax sisters Sorolla and Fortuny. Seville has introduced substantial improvements in cargo and accommodation capacities on the Murillo, a project that followed the successful design carried out on the Merchant series of four vessels for Cenargo. Payload cargo has been increased, as the accommodation, for instance, has been more than doubled. Length, (o.a.) 591 ft. Length, (bp) 553 ft.

Livestock Carrier Transports Two Millionth Sheep

The purpose-built livestock carrier, the Becrux, has loaded its two millionth sheep since its maiden voyage in June 2002. Loaded in Fremantle, Australia, at the end of November this year, it also marked the 43rd voyage out of Australia by the Becrux in just 42 months of operation. Built in Croatia in 2002, the Becrux is capable of carrying around 75,000 sheep, 14,000 cattle or a combination of both. To ensure the safety, welfare and comfort of all the animals onboard, it is fitted with automated feed systems, a fresh water producing system, temperature controls, powerful ventilation systems and spacious one-tier enclosures.
