RIBCRAFT Delivers Rescue Boat to Fire Department in Maine

The volunteer fire department in Greene, Maine recently took delivery of a 16-foot RIBCRAFT 4.8 rescue boat. This specialized RIB expands the department’s response capabilities while providing a safe platform for rescue missions. Funded by a grant through Firehouse Subs, RIBCRAFT worked with the department to build a boat that met all of their operational requirements.Located on several rivers and lakes in Androscoggin County, the department receives many distress calls from recreational boaters.

RIBCRAFT Delivers Two RIBs to Rhode Island DEM

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) recently took delivery of two 19’ RIBCRAFT 5.85s. As the first true rigid inflatable boats (RIB) in their fleet, these versatile vessels will serve as rapid response deployable vessels throughout the state.With larger hard-sided patrol vessels already in use, the department was in need of a multipurpose watercraft that was easily handled and operated by a single officer that could still support a variety of operations regardless of the conditions.

A maritime Solutions Company in Dubai has just taken delivery of ASIS 9.5m Cabin RIBs for Security Patrol and Pilot Services. The multi-purpose custom built crafts will be used for Dubai International Port Operations on a daily basis. The 9.5m Rigid Inflatable Boats have a heavy duty fiberglass hull and an extra reinforced aluminium cabin superstructure. Deigned and certified under Category “B”, these RIBs have great stability and seaworthiness. They can withstand waves of up to 4m height and wind of Beaufort force 8. Willard Marine to Develop SOLAS FRBs for NOAA

Willard Marine, Inc. has been awarded contracts to develop two new sizes of Safety of Life At Sea (SOLAS) Fast Rescue Boats (FRBs) for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA). An inboard-powered 5.9-meter SOLAS rescue boat with waterjet propulsion will be built for the NOAA ship Nancy Foster and a 5.4-meter outboard-powered SOLAS rescue boat is contracted for the Hi’ialakia in Hawaii. The SOLAS self-bailing fiberglass-hull RIBs are gel-coated international orange. Willard Marine will acquire the necessary U.S. Coast Guard SOLAS certification for both vessels.

US Navy Orders More RIBs from Willard Marine

The U.S. Navy has awarded Willard Marine, Inc. a contract for a new generation of 11-meter RIBs for standard ship’s boat operations. To date, eight standard craft with an Open Center Console (OCC) configuration and two OCC LPD-17 class variants have been ordered. This contract specifies Cummins QSB 6.7-liter 380-hp twin engines paired with Hamilton Jet HJ292 waterjets. Each vessel will have aft seating plus removable seating for additional people on the foredeck and all will be delivered with WING inflatable tubes.

Two extreme AC72 foiling catamarans with wing sails went head-to-head at over 40 knots in San Francisco Bay, California. The teams were competing in the 2013 Americas Cup Challenge which took place from September 7-21, 2013. Anyone watching the first few days of Americas Cup sailing will know that it looked like Emirates Team New Zealand had a seemingly untouchable lead – then out of the blue Oracle Team USA completed one of the greatest comebacks in sport to win the 34th America’s Cup.

Brunswick Introduces New 1200 Impact RHIB

Brunswick Commercial and Government Products recently introduced a new full cabin version of its popular 1200 Impact RHIB. Just shy of 40” in length with a 10'8" beam, the 1200 features a deep-V fiberglass hull for superior offshore performance and a commercial grade inflatable polyurethane collar for enhanced lateral stability and hull protection in boarding situations. The full cabin model offers weather protection for a crew of four. Other notable options include climate control, SHOX shock mitigating seats and a choice of outboard or jet propulsion.

BCGP Delivers Seven RIBs to Fla. Fish & Wildlife

Brunswick Commercial and Government Products (BCGP) recently delivered a fleet of seven Impact rigid hull inflatable boats (RHIBs) to the state of Florida’s Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). The group of RHIBs is a mix of 750, 850 and 1000 Impacts, ranging in size from 24 ft, 7 inches to 32 ft, 10 inches in length. Each boat has an air collar system made of heavy-duty polyurethane with separated chambers, and a hand-laid fiberglass hull. The seven Impacts will be deployed in various locations throughout the state of Florida.

Hatteras Announces 68 Convertible

Hatteras has announced plans for a new 68 Convertible that will feature the widest beam in its class as well as new design and technology throughout the vessel. The 68 sports a 192-sq. ft. cockpit that includes a mezzanine deck for superior seating and amenities. The mezzanine houses double-size bait freezer, insulated storage tubs, tackle drawers, insulated drink storage and more. The mezzanine is designed in modular fashion, which allows each owner to customize the location of various components such as freezer, ice box or optional baitwell. Below the cockpit deck is a large, open lazarette accessible through the engine room hatch.

VT Halmatic has delivered an Arctic 24 rigid inflatable boat (RIB) to the island of Tristan da Cunha. Located in the South Atlantic, approximately 1,740 miles west of Cape Town, Tristan da Cunha is acknowledged as the world's most remote inhabited island. The island supports a thriving community concentrating on fishing and agriculture and the new RIB joins an existing VT Halmatic Pacific 38 RIB. The new Arctic 24 will be used as an additional fisheries patrol boat and fast rescue craft as well as search and rescue and policing duties. Based on a deep V hull form, the Arctic 24 is known as an off-shore RIB that is available in the market place and is capable of operating in the extreme sea states found around the island.

Coast Guard Trained on Hull, Engine Repair

As part of the ongoing cooperation between the Governments of Yemen and the United States, a team of technicians from the U.S. Coast Guard will visit Yemen’s Coast Guard to train trainers in nautical skills related to engine and fiberglass hull repair, according to a press release. As part of the training, the Yemen Coast Guard will make an inventory of all spare parts to ensure that an adequate supply is on hand for any future requirements of the fleet. Col Frank Molinari, chief of the US Office of Military Cooperation located at the US Embassy, noted that the current training in engine and hull repair will increase the operational readiness of the Yemeni Coast Guard fleet, and provide them with the capacity to conduct independent training for future Coast Guard engineers.

Pilot Boat Features New Hull Design

Featuring a waterjet-powered fiberglass hull, a new pilot boat was constructed for Puget Sound Pilots at Nordlund Boat Co., Tacoma, Wash. Measuring 74 ft. (22.5 m), the vessel will be based at Port Angeles, Wash., where it was scheduled to enter service during December 1999. Powered by two Cat® 3412E marine diesel engines, each rated 900-bhp at 2,300-rpm, driving Hamilton waterjets through Reintjes Gears, the vessel's top speed is estimated at 26 knots. RIB Technology Makes Stronger, Faster Boats

The business of building better Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs) is a serious one which utilizes and combines some of the world’s most advanced materials technologies. Comptetion in the market is stiff, as manufacturer claims and counter claims would indicate. The RIBs of today are finding themselves used for a much wider spectrum of duty than perhaps just five or 10 years ago, due in large to advances in design, performance and load carrying capabilities. Manufacturers have invested many hours and dollars to ensure that today’s RIBs are constructed of increasingly better, stronger materials that enable them to dutifully perform the rigorous duty that owners demand.
