A new version of the Wave MiniBOSS IMO separator is now available. The Series II Wave MiniBOSS offers a faster flow rate, providing 0.5m³/hr across all models . All models of the separator are available for DC or AC power.Approved by the IMO, ABS and US Coast Guard, it is MEPC 107 (49) certified for use on all vessels from 400 Gross Tons. The MiniBOSS system ensures that no traces of oil or other pollutants such as microplastics, are discharged overboard thanks to its use of a pre-filter and two Wavestream oil removal filters.The Wave MiniBOSS is a neatly designed bulkhead mounted system.

The Alfa Laval Moatti 290 filter for hydraulic control oil (HCO) has been approved by MAN Diesel & Turbo on its modern two-stroke engines following validation tests aboard three Stena Bulk IMOIIMAX vessels.The Alfa Laval Moatti 290 filter is a high-performance solution suited to the new generation of MAN Diesel &Turbo two-stroke engines, in which hydraulic control systems have replaced traditional camshafts. The valves of these systems are actuated by a small flow of lube oil, which must be very finely filtered without creating additional pressure drop.

A manufacturer of two-stroke engines has agreed to validation tests of an Alfa Laval hydraulic control oil (HCO) filter . The approval to test the final HCO filter design comes after concept testing on the crude oil tanker Stena Suède. Alfa Laval describes its HCO filter as a high-performance solution for the new generation of two-stroke engines where traditional camshafts have been replaced by hydraulic control systems. The hydraulic control system core components are dedicated valves fed with oil from the main system flow, which must be finely filtered with minimal pressure drop.

Over the past 43 years, Furuno has received the honor of being the most recognized company in the marine electronics field by the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA). This year, Furuno won four more NMEA awards at the prestigious 2014 NMEA Convention in Sanibel, FL, bringing Furuno’s NMEA Award all-time total to an amazing 212 wins. For the ninth consecutive year, Furuno received the highly coveted Manufacturer of the Year - Support award. Evoqua Water Technologies LLC says that its SeaCURE Ballast Water Treatment System (BWTS) has been granted AMS Acceptance in all salinities. Following a rigorous review process, the manufacturers say that SeaCURE has been accepted for use as an AMS by the USCG. AMS acceptance means that vessel owners and operators are now permitted to use the SeaCURE ballast water treatment system in U.S. waters. SeaCURE has previously been type-approved by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and BSH, the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency of Germany (Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie). Evoqua also will apply for and undergo thorough testing required toward full USCG type approval. Currently, no ballast water treatment system has full USCG type approval.

High fuel prices, increasing emissions regulations and environmental concerns are driving fleets to cut expenses, emissions and waste disposal using new filter technology. With ship fleets facing spiraling fuel prices and new tougher environmental regulations from the EPA and IMO, fleet managers have had to look for new technology to control costs and emissions. Furuno, manufacturer of marine electronics, was honored with five awards at the 2009 National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) Convention in Sanibel, Fla. Panasonic recently unveiled the newest version of its Toughbook ruggedized notebook PC, a unit that incorporates the Intel Pentium II 333MHz CPU.

In 2006, Furuno laid the groundwork for new sounders with the introduction of their FCV620 and FCV585 digital fish finders. These units featured FDF (Furuno Digital Filter) Technology. FDF is the latest in digital signal processing technology that delivers noise-free underwater images. In less than a year, Furuno's FDF technology was so well received that it won the National Marine Electronics Associations 2006 Best Fish Finder award for the FCV585. Now, Furuno is bringing this same FDF technology to their NavNet system with the new DFF1 Digital Fish Finder module.
