Fincantieri Acquires IT Firm Insis

Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri said on Tuesday it had acquired a majority stake in information technology company Insis, to widen the range of products and services it offers.The state-controlled group did not revealed the financial terms of the deal, adding that Insis, which employees 100 people, posted revenue of 51.7 million euros ($58 million) last year.Insis, which has its headquarters near the port city of La Spezia, develops products and services in IT, electronics, telecommunications and cybersecurity.Its clients belong to both the public and defence sectors, Finmeccanica said.Reporti

New Frigate Delivered to the Italian Navy

The frigate Alpino was delivered today at the Muggiano, La Spezia shipyard. It is the fifth vessel of the FREMM program - Multi Mission European Frigates - commissioned to Fincantieri within the international Italian-French program, coordinated by OCCAR (the Organization for Joint Armament Cooperation). Orizzonte Sistemi Navali (51 percent Fincantieri and 49 percent Finmeccanica) is the prime contractor for Italy in the FREMM program, which  envisions the construction of 10 units, all already ordered.

Sixth FREMM Frigate Launched

Today the launching ceremony of the frigate Luigi Rizzo took place at the plant in Riva Trigoso (Genova). The sixth of a series of 10 units FREMM - European Multi-Mission Frigates, was commissioned from Fincantieri by the Navy Italian in the framework of international cooperation between Italy and France, with the coordination of OCCAR, the joint organization for European cooperation in armaments. Fincantieri, Finmeccanica Win Italian Navy LHD Contract

Fincantieri, one of the world’s largest shipbuilding groups and reference player in the naval shipbuilding industry, and Finmeccanica, Italy’s leading manufacturer in the high technology sector, have been awarded the contract for the construction and equipment of one multipurpose amphibious unit (LHD) for the Italian Navy. Fincantieri Launches Italian Navy Frigate

Ships Electronic Services (SES), an industry leader in the supply, installation and maintenance of maritime electronics, has won a contract from Finmeccanica – Selex ES to supply a PA & General Alarm system to each of the four Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) Military Afloat Reach & Sustainability (MARS) tankers currently under construction by Daewoo Shipbuilding in South Korea. The contract, which covers an integrated PA system, is part of a wide range of communication equipment ordered from Finmeccanica – Selex ES.

Finmeccanica - Alenia Aermacchi Awarded USCG Training Contract

Finmeccanica - Alenia Aermacchi has been awarded a contract with the United States Coast Guard (USCG) to provide training services for initial cadre members who will fly the USCG’s newly acquired C-27J. The training will consist of in-class sessions, flight simulation instruction, and in-flight training for USCG pilots and loadmasters. In 2013, the USCG received 14 C-27Js through the 2014 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The aircraft will be used for medium range surveillance USCG missions such as maritime patrol, drug and migrant interdiction, disaster response and search and rescue. The C-27J represents an efficient, cost-effective solution to the USCG’s recapitalization program.

Fincantieri's Riva Trigoso (Genoa) shipyard celebrates the launch of the frigate “Carlo Margottini”, the third of a series of Fremm vessels - Multi Mission European Frigates, ordered from Fincantieri by the Italian Navy within the framework of an Italo-French program of cooperation. Godmother to the ship was Ms. Stefania Portaccio, granddaughter of Captain Carlo Margottini. The frigate was named in honour of Captain Carlo Margottini, who was decorated for military valour after the sinking of Nave Artigliere in 1940.

Selex ES Provides Further VSAT Solutions

The UK Marine business of Selex ES, a Finmeccanica company, has completed a contract to supply a Ku-Band Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) system, including a five-year airtime package, for use on the Serco vessel SD Victoria. VSAT engineers from Selex ES’ UK office network carried out the installation and commissioning, beginning in Greenock and completing in Portland. This is the second successful Selex ES deployment of VSAT for Serco and complements that previously supplied to the SD Northern River. The completion of this contract further strengthens a longstanding relationship between Serco and Selex ES’ Marine business: and extends Selex ES’ role in connecting and protecting stakeholder communities.
