The U.S. Coast Guard published an interim rule on December 27, 2021, to implement Congressionally-mandated requirements for fire safety on âcovered small passenger vesselsâ (CSPVs), as defined by 46 U.S.C. 3306(n). Danish company Green Instruments has entered a major agreement with Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding for the delivery of equipment that detects oil mist and vapor on ships and triggers an alarm before fires can develop and endanger the crew, ship, equipment, and environment.The shipyard now installs Green Instrumentsâ equipment on every new vessel built.Oil mist is formed by oil droplets floating in the air and can ignite at low temperatures. USCG Announces New Fire Safety Rules for Passenger Vessels
The U.S. Coast Guard announced in the Federal Register that it is issuing an interim rule as the first step to implementing the statutorily mandated requirements for fire safety on certain covered small passenger vessels. This statutory mandate is in response to the fire and loss of life on the dive boat Conception off the coast of California on September 2, 2019. Darley Acquires Fireboy, Inc
W.S. Darley & Co. informs it has purchased the assets of Fireboy, Xintex and Aetna Engineering based in Grand Rapids, Mich., forming the new company Fireboy-Xintex, LLC. W.S. Darley & Co., headquartered in Itasca, Ill., has served the worldâs fire and emergency services industry since 1908. The company has manufacturing, engineering and research and development operations are in Chippewa Falls, Wisc. and Janesville, Iowa. Founded in 1973, Fireboy is a developer of marine pre-engineered and custom engineered fire safety and suppression equipment.
LR Secures USCG Authorization
The US Coast Guard (USCG) has authorised Lloydâs Register to act on its behalf for issuance of the Document of Compliance for US-flagged ships carrying dangerous goods. This authorisation underscores the continuing level of confidence the USCG places in the technical expertise and ability of Lloydâs Register to verify compliance with safety requirements for US-flagged vessels. âDangerous goodsâ are hazardous substances, the carriage of which requires special safety measures to minimise the risk to vessels, crews and ports. Water and ventilation systems, personnel protection apparatus and fire detection equipment are some of the areas that require specialised scrutiny onboard ships carrying dangerous goods.
