Adani to Develop Container Port in Myanmar

India’s largest private multi-port operator Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) will set up its first container terminal outside India in Myanmar at an estimated cost of US$ 290 million.Adani Group said that all requisite permissions have been received in the form of Myanmar Investment Commission permit, to build and run a container terminal along the Yangon river for 50-years.APSEZ would be the first Indian company to set up a container terminal outside India, CEO Karan Adani said.Construction for phase one of the project will commence next month and will be completed by June 2021. It is a two-phase project. "Total project cost for both phases would be USD 275-290 million.

Kalmar Provides Green RTG to Miami Port

Kalmar, the provider of eco-efficient cargo handling equipment and automated terminal solutions, , has signed a deal to supply six Kalmar Zero Emission Rubber-tired Gantry cranes (RTGs) to South Florida Container Terminal, LLC.The cranes will be equipped with a busbar energy system and operator assist features like auto steering and container stack profiling, said a press statement from Kalmar, part of Cargotec.The order was booked in Cargotec's 2019 Q1 order intake with delivery scheduled to be completed in early 2020. This will be the first container terminal in the United States that has 100% zero-emission RTG cranes. APM Terminals Pier 400 Los Angeles Sets New Single Vessel Record

APM Terminals Pier 400 Los Angeles has established a new single vessel cargo operations record during the call of the 13,600 TEU capacity Maersk Evora, with a combined total of 24,846 TEUs loaded and discharged over a 128-hour period. This performance eclipsed the previous record of 18,500 TEUs handled during the call of a similarly-sized vessel at the Port of Rotterdam in 2015. The Maersk Evora arrived at APM Terminals Pier 400 Los Angeles on October 19th, on the Europe-Far East/Transpacific AE6/TP6 service operated by 2M partners Maersk Line and Mediterranean Shipping Company. The Los Angeles port call is the only US call for this pendulum service linking America’s largest container port with the Far East.

APM Terminals Vado Aims to be Gateway to Central Europe

APM Terminals Vado, Italy Managing Director Paolo Cornetto highlighted the future role of the deepwater APM Terminals Vado facility, now under construction, as a new southern gateway to Central Europe. “We designed our new port around liner customers - and our landside customers – the importers, exporters and truckers - to help them do more business by tapping into the 70 million-member consumer market of northern Italy, southern Germany, Switzerland, Austria and eastern France within an eight hour proximity of our port," he said. "We will offer a fully-automated gate complex – the first of any Italian port - to get truckers in and out faster and safer.

CMIT Welcomes Vietnam PM

Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc visited Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT) on July 21st, becoming the first container terminal in the Cai Mep area, part of Saigon Port, to receive the Vietnamese Head of State. CMIT is a joint venture between APM Terminals, which holds a 49% share, Vietnam National Shipping Lines, with a 36% share, and Saigon Port, with a 15% share. Prime Minister Phuc was welcomed by CMIT acting Managing director Nguyen Xuan Ky, who expressed the facility’s appreciation to the Vietnamese national and provincial governments, and the Vietnamese Ministry of Transport for supporting policies which have led to the success of the deep-water port complex.

Global Ports Sells Logistika-Terminal to PJSC TransContainer

Global Ports Investments PLC announced that First Container Terminal Inc., one of the Group’s sea terminals, has signed an agreement to sell its 100% shares in JSC Logistika-Terminal (LT), one of the Group’s two inland terminals, to PJSC TransContainer for a consideration of 1.9 billion Russian rubles to be paid upon completion of the transaction. The transaction will allow the Group to optimize its inland terminal network focusing on the Yanino terminal, a modern multipurpose inland terminal in the vicinity of St. Petersburg. The Group intends to use the proceeds of the sale for further deleveraging, a key strategic priority. The transaction is subject to approval of relevant regulatory authorities. Container Weighing at 29 APM Locations

The Hague, Netherlands - With just 50 days until SOLAS Verified Gross Mass (VGM) comes into force APM Terminals is taking the lead to ensure a smooth transition into the new regulatory environment facing over 120 million containers entering the international supply chain. Under international law from 1st July, 2016 shippers are required to provide a VGM for every container before it can be loaded with the shipping line. In 2014, the International Maritime organization (IMO), the agency of the United Nations responsible for regulating international seaborne trade, approved amendments to the Safety of Life at Sea Convention (SOLAS) which as of 1st July 2016 will require verification and documentation of loaded containers (Verified Gross Mass, or “VGM”) before they can be loaded onto vessels.

Global Ports Revenues Fall

Global Ports Investments PLC's  container traffic slumped 31 percent and revenue sank 28 percent in 2015. Global Ports Investments' revenues fell to USD405.7 million in the year to the end of December. Net loss of the port operator in 2015 amounted to $33.7 million versus $197.3 million net loss a year earlier, the financial report said the company’s financial and operating results for the year of 2015. Thus, the net loss decreased in 5.8 times. The leading operator of container terminals on the Russian market explains the decrease in revenue the drop in traffic (container throughput of Global Ports in 2015 decreased compared with the previous year by 31%, to 1.8 million TEU(equivalent 20-foot container)).

19 Kalmar Shuttle Carriers for APM Terminal in Italy

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has received an order for 19 hybrid shuttle carriers from APM Terminals for their newest container terminal that is under construction in Vado, Italy. The machines will be delivered during 2017. APM Terminals' deepwater Vado container terminal will be the world's first container terminal to employ an entirely hybrid shuttle carrier fleet. The Kalmar HSH240 hybrid shuttle carriers will help APM Terminals to optimise the productivity of their terminal by decoupling waterside and landside operations. The hybrid machines have been designed with an advanced regenerative energy system that converts energy from operational braking and lowering of the spreader into electric power which is then captured and stored through new and innovative battery technology.

APM Terminals Vado Orders 19 Straddle Carriers

APM Terminals has signed a contract for the delivery of 19 advanced container handlers which will employ advanced diesel/electric power sourcing to increase fuel efficiency and reduce emissions for Italy’s newest container terminal. Vado, Italy – APM Terminals has concluded a contract with Finnish-based container handling equipment manufacturer Kalmar for the delivery of 19 Hybrid Straddle Carriers for the new 800,000 TEU annual capacity deepwater APM Terminals Vado facility now under construction on northern Italy’s Ligurian Coast. The facility will be the world’s first container terminal to employ an entirely hybrid straddle carrier fleet.

Massive Quay Cranes for PortSynergy / Eurofos

PortSynergy / Eurofos have purchsed a set of massive quay cranes, reportedly the largest in the world, becoming the first container terminal to operate cranes of this size. Two cranes 54 meters high with a 72 meters outreach manufactured by Paceco España will be mounted in situ on the PortSynergy / Eurofos terminal in Fos-sur-Mer near Marseille. Crane erection will begin in February 2016 with a view to commissioning in September / October 2016. PSA starts up in Dammam

Saudi Global Ports (SGP), a joint-venture company formed between the Public Investment Fund of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and PSA International (PSA) has started its commercial operations this month, PSA said. This began at the second container terminal in the King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam, a key gateway port on the Arabian Gulf. On April 23, the company handled the first commercial vessel, M/V NIARA, owned by Orient Express Line. For this, 1,011 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) were handled on this 2,000-TEU capacity vessel. Phase one of the facility has a 700m long quay with a water depth of 16m alongside and equipped with six 23-wide quayside gantry cranes.

PSA Commissions new Dammam Terminal

Saudi Global Ports LLC (SGP), a joint-venture company formed between the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and PSA International (PSA) started its commercial operations this month, at the second container terminal in the King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam, a key gateway port on the Arabian Gulf. On 23 April 2015, SGP handled the first commercial vessel, M/V NIARA, owned by Orient Express Line. 1,011 TEUs were handled on this 2,000-TEU capacity vessel. Located in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, Dammam City, phase 1 of SGP’s terminal has 16 metres of water depth, the deepest in the region, and is equipped with six quay cranes of 23 container row span on 700 metres of quay.

Cuban Port Eyes Pact with Panama Canal expansion

The Port of Mariel, Cuba, aims to become the best choice transshipment in the region from the Panama Canal expansion. According to the Mariel terminal sources, "The port has possibility to connect with everyone from the Panama Canal expansion" and its geographical position "facilitates the export to the Caribbean and to the East Coast American production that takes place in special development zone. Dutch Container Terminal Signs on for Wind Power

APM Terminals has signed a two-year, €5 million ($6.23 million) contract with Amsterdam-based NV Nuon Energy for the supply of environmentally-sustainable wind-generated electricity to power the new APM Terminals Maasvlakte II cranes and container handling equipment. The new 2.7 million TEU annual capacity deepwater terminal, scheduled to receive its first commercial vessel call later this month, will reportedly be the world’s first container terminal with zero emissions on site and off site. The contract term begins January 1, 2015.

Port of Houston to Order Container Cranes

Port of Houston Commission to negotiate a contract for the purchase of 4 new electric cranes for Barbours Cut Container Terminal. DCT Earns AEO Certification

DCT Gdansk said that on March 5, 2012, it became the first container terminal operator in Poland to receive the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) certification. AEO is an international certificate established in 2008 by the European Commission to secure a smooth international trade flow accepted by Customs worldwide. NOL Opens Terminal Ahead of Schedule

Today, NOL Group opened its new terminal at the Port of Qingdao with the arrival of the APL Dubai. Originally expected to open in the second half of 2011, the joint venture container terminal opened for business well ahead of schedule. NOL, together with SITC International Holdings Company Limited, a PRC-based shipping logistics company, formed a partnership with Qingdao Qianwan United Container Terminal Co., Ltd. (QQCTU) in May 2011 to operate the terminal. NOL said the terminal will primarily serve vessels operated by APL and SITC. The inaugural call at the terminal was made today by the APL Dubai, a 6,574-TEU vessel on APL’s West Asia Express service.

Canada Funds Green Port Project in Prince Rupert

The Honourable Stockwell Day, President of the Treasury Board and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, today announced that the Government of Canada will invest $2.5m in the Prince Rupert Port Authority’s (PRPA’s) Fairview Terminal project to provide shore power capacity to container ships through an electric cable management system. HHLA Orders 14 Kalmar Straddle Carriers

Hamburg terminal operator HHLA (Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG) has placed an order with Cargotec for 14 Kalmar 7+ generation ESC350W diesel-electric straddle carriers. The new machines, acknowledged as the most environmentally friendly model offered by Cargotec, will be deployed at HHLA's Container Terminal Burchardkai (CTB) facility and will be delivered in September this year. The new straddle carriers feature Selective Catalytic Reduction engine technology, designed to meet Stage 3B engine emissions requirements that came into force in the European Union earlier this year.

NOL Group's Two-Berth Terminal in Qingdao

NOL to Help Develop a New Container Terminal

Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) has been advised by the Port of Rotterdam that a consortium comprising NOL, Hyundai Merchant Marine, Mitsui OSK Lines, DP World and CMA CGM has been awarded the right to equip and operate the first container terminal to be developed at Maasvlakte 2 in Rotterdam. The 156 hectare terminal will have a capacity of around 4 million TEU and is expected to be operational in 2013. NOL’s share of the consortium will be 20%.

Konecranes Wins Container Crane Orders to Russia

Konecranes has received orders for five ship-to-shore (STS) cranes and fourteen rubber tired gantry (RTG) cranes to three container terminals of National Container Company (NCC) in Russia. The cranes will be delivered to NCC's subsidiaries First Container Terminal (FCT) in St. Petersburg, Baltic Container Terminal (BCT) in Ust-Luga and the inland terminal Shushary. The total value of the orders is over $56.7m. The procurement of container handling equipment is part of NCC's terminal expansion and development plan. The ordered equipment will increase throughput capacity of the existing terminals and improve productivity. Konecranes will deliver one STS crane and ten RTGs to FCT in St.
