VT Halter Names Prendergast EVP

Naval Reservists Assist in Water Taxi Rescue

Reservists from Naval Reserve Center (NRC) Baltimore assisted in the rescue of more than a dozen passengers from a water taxi that had capsized in Baltimore's Inner Harbor late in the afternoon of March 6. Two of the passengers died and three were still listed as missing, while the remaining 22 were rescued by Baltimore City Fire Department personnel, with the assistance of the NRC Baltimore Reservists. Command Master Chief Melvin Johnson and Information Systems Technician 3rd Class Edward Mendez witnessed the water taxi capsize as it attempted to maneuver in heavy winds and seas. Keyport Services Wins $54.7M Contract

Keyport Services, Poulsbo, Wash., is being awarded a $54,708,180 cost-plus-award-fee service contract for professional, engineering and business management services to directly support the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Keyport's mission. This contract contains four one-year options that, if all options are exercised, will bring the total cumulative approximate value of the contract to $301,729,075. Work will be performed in Keyport, Wash. (60 percent); Oahu, Kauai, and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii (17 percent); Norfolk, Chesapeake, Yorktown and Arlington, Va., and Washington D.C. Xerox Wins $19.4m Navy Contract

Xerox Corp., McLean, Va., is being awarded a $19,409,029 firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for ship board copiers, print ship equipment, and related support services to the entire Navy fleet. This contract contains options which, if exercised, will bring the total value of this contract to $ 93,892,161. Alion Awarded Navy Contracts

The Navy Warfare Development Command awarded Alion Science and Technology three contracts, totaling $16.3m, for technical support services for the Joint Semi-Automated Forces program (JSAF), non-JSAF-related modeling and simulation work and networking and system administration support. The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contracts, which were awarded on July 1, each include a base year and four, one-year options. If all options are exercised, the total contracts would be worth $86.6m. Under the Lot I contract, Alion will provide technical support tasks related to JSAF, the Navy’s core simulation tool used for training and experimentation.

Navy Supply Corps, Japan Self Defense Force Celebrate History, Service

Members of the Supply Corps Association of Japan and distinguished guests from the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) gathered at the Trinity Hotel in Yokosuka, on March 17, to celebrate the 212th birthday of the United States Navy Supply Corps. The Supply Corps ball featured entertainment by a jazz ensemble from the U.S. Navy 7th Fleet band and speeches from Commander, Fleet and Industrial Supply Centers (COMFISCS), Rear Adm. Ray Berube and Vice Adm. Yoshinori Kawano, Commander of the Japan Maritime Materiel Command. Kawano spoke of the historical significance of the U.S. Navy’s Supply Corps. He mentioned that one key to the American’s successful Revolutionary War was maintaining supply lines, while denying logistics to the British.

Urethane to Provide for Supply Center

The Fleet and Industrial Supply Center at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii has granted Urethane Products Corp. (UPC) another contract for six 10 ft. diameter x 16 ft.-long Marine Guard foam-filled marine fenders. The fenders are constructed for energy absorbing capacity of 1,081 ft. kips with a reaction force of 402 kips. Comprised of energy absorbing heat laminated foam core, a tough continuous filament wound tire cord reinforced urethane elastomeric skin and built in swivel end fittings, the fenders will be delivered to the Naval Station at Pearl Harbor.

George G.
