Inmarsat Supporting Impala Push Boats on the Paraná

Inmarsat has equipped four Paraná River push boats operated by Impala Paraguay with Fleet Xpress connectivity, in what the mobile satellite communications company is calling a breakthrough for maritime broadband inland along one of South America’s longest waterways.The prime mover vessels are used by Impala Paraguay to steer its fleet of 30 double-hulled barges along the waterway system to move gas oil, jet fuel, gasoline and naphtha products from Argentina onward to Paraguay and Bolivia, exporting soya bean oil in the other direction.

Intellian, Inmarsat Embark On FleetBroadband Development

Inmarsat and Intellian have signed an outline agreement that will support enhancements to Inmarsat’s FleetBroadband service for the next decade and beyond. The new agreement will see Intellian design and manufacture a new generation of FleetBroadband terminals that will support the existing I-4 network alongside the major advances coming with Inmarsat’s sixth generation satellite constellation, the first of which is scheduled for launch in 2020. The next generation terminals will be significantly lower cost and feature a host of new capabilities, including much faster throughput speeds.

Inmarsat to Deliver Fleet Xpress with SpeedCast

SpeedCast International, a provider of high-speed broadband connectivity to the global maritime industry, has entered into a strategic partnership with Inmarsat, positioning Inmarsat’s new Fleet Xpress service, powered by the Global Xpress (GX) network, as a key service within its maritime services portfolio, being fully integrated with SpeedCast’s existing maritime SIGMA gateway and other Value Added Services. Over the next five years, SpeedCast has committed to roll out Fleet Xpress to approximately 2,000 vessels. Under the strategic alliance, SpeedCast will work closely with Inmarsat in key maritime markets around the world to promote and roll out Fleet Xpress services to existing and new customers.

Inmarsat Debuts Enhanced Maritime Product Roadmap

Inmarsat today announced its enhanced Maritime product roadmap consisting of two new services designed specifically for Inmarsat’s Global Xpress network: Fleet Xpress and FleetBroadband Xtra. Fleet Xpress is a hybrid solution, which will operate over the Global Xpress Ka-band network, and incorporate Inmarsat’s L-band FleetBroadband service as back-up, providing a truly global and advanced connectivity service for maritime customers anywhere in the world. The solution will be available when Global Xpress (GX) commences global commercial services early in the second half of 2015. Fleet Xpress will be an Inmarsat managed service sold through the company’s experienced GX Value Added Resellers (VARs).

Intellian FleetBroadband Terminals for 38 Containerships

Intellian has won the contract to supply Hanjin Shipping of South Korea, with FleetBroadband FB500 terminals for a fleet of 38 container ships. The installation process has already commenced and will be completed by Intellian over the coming months as the ships arrive into port. The FB500 is the largest of Intellian's FleetBroadband product range and provides the fastest and most cost-effective FleetBroadband service available. It is designed specifically for intensive use onboard merchant and offshore vessels using Inmarsat’s I4 satellite, global broadband coverage.

Inmarsat Provides FleetBroadband Service to Canadian Navy

Inmarsat has announced that Shared Services Canada (SSC) will deploy FleetBroadB & new Assured Access service for 29 Canadian warships. The contract to provide these services to Government of Canada is now under the responsibility of SSC. The Government of Canada established SSC in August 2011 to consolidate its data centers, telecommunications and email systems. Deployment of these services to the Canadian Navy started in October 2012. FleetBroadband will provide the ships with global broadband connectivity while at sea – for email, internet and data services and voice communications. Since Inmarsat introduced FleetBroadband in 2007, it has been deployed on more than 30,000 commercial and government vessels worldwide.

SatCom Povider Immarsat Reports Growth in Maritime Data Revenue

Rupert Pearce, Inmarsat's Chief Executive Officer, said: "The results for the first quarter are in line with our expectations and give us confidence in our outlook. Strong subscriber growth of over 10% in the first quarter continues to underpin our expectations for improved results in 2012. Growth in our maritime data revenue resulted primarily from the impact of pricing initiatives, in particular as a result of the elimination of volume discounts previously available for older services where we are encouraging customer migration to our FleetBroadband service. In addition, we added 2,010 FleetBroadband terminals during the quarter, showing that take up of this service remains strong.

Vizada and Thrane & Thrane Announce Partnership

Vizada, a provider of global satellite-based mobility services, and hardware manufacturer Thrane & Thrane have signed a partnership agreement to launch a new broadband offer to the maritime market. Via their shared distribution channels, the partnership will offer shipping companies a maritime mobile broadband package that combines Thrane & Thrane hardware with Vizada VSAT and MSS services and solutions. The maritime mobile broadband package includes Thrane & Thrane’s SAILOR 900 VSAT and SAILOR FleetBroadband terminals combined with Vizada’s Pharostar VSAT and FleetBroadband service and the recently launched Vizada XChange, a unified platform that provides a secure and controlled communications environment for voice and broadband data.

Globe iFusion: Inmarsat 2010 “Maritime Product of the Year”

Globe Wireless announced that Inmarsat has named Globe iFusion the 2010 Maritime Solution of the Year. Globe Wireless became a FleetBroadband Distribution Partner in January 2010. In September 2010 Globe iFusion was released, making Globe Wireless the only Distribution Partner that is also a type approved FleetBroadband equipment manufacturer. Chris D’Aguiar, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Inmarsat, presented the award during the Inmarsat Partner Conference in Saigon, Vietnam.

Vizada Receives Inmarsat Partner Award

At their European Partner Conference in London last week Inmarsat announced that it has selected Vizada as the recipient of its 2010 Partner Award in the category “Most Significant Contract.” With this award, Vizada is recognized as a solutions innovator for the merchant shipping market, providing shipping giant AP Moller-Maersk with latest Vizada SolutionsTM to optimize communications. Together with Marlink and Inmarsat, Vizada provides Inmarsat FleetBroadband airtime services to an additional 200 vessels, increasing the total number of AP Moller-Maersk vessels sailing with FleetBroadband airtime to 370. web compression and filtering.

Vizada and Nautical Equip 300 Fishing Vessels

Vizada, independent provider of mobile satellite services, has teamed up with its long-term service provider partner Nautical to provide the Inmarsat FleetBroadband service to more than 300 Spanish fishing vessels, enabling them to comply with new European Union (EU) regulations. The EU regulations came into effect on 1 July 2010 and require all fishing vessels of more than 24-metres (78-ft) to supply reports of catch, trans-shipments, landings and sales electronically to European fishing authorities. Vizada and Nautical have put together a customized communications package based on Inmarsat FleetBroadband to enable fishing companies to easily and cost-effectively transmit this data once recorded.

“K” Line Selects Globe Wireless for Upgrade

Globe Wireless has been selected by “K” Line to provide a turnkey implementation of the Inmarsat FleetBroadband service. “K” Line is a large ship owner/operators, which includes container ships, car carriers, bulk carriers, gas carriers and tankers. The signed agreement between “K” Line and Globe Wireless entails the up gradation of its service in the vessels presently using the Globe Wireless network. Globe Wireless currently provides voice & data solutions to “K” Line. The roll out of FleetBroadband on the “K” Line ships has already begun.

First FB150 Installation, Tug Miclyn Enterprise

Inmarsat (LSE: ISAT), provider of global mobile satellite communications services, announced the first installation of the FleetBroadband 150 (FB150) service onboard tug Miclyn Enterprise. The installation of the SAILOR 150 FleetBroadband system was managed by Thrane & Thrane’s Certified Partner, Jason Electronics, at the Jalan Brigjen Katamso shipyard in Batam, Indonesia. Installation aboard Miclyn Enterprise, a multipurpose offshore support vessel owned by Miclyn Express Offshore, was completed in 15 minutes, and the first email sent and telephone call made within the hour. The FleetBroadband service is the first maritime communications solution to provide cost-effective broadband data and voice, simultaneously, through a compact antenna on a global basis.

SAILOR 150 Gets Inmarsat Approval

Inmarsat has presented the type approval certificate for SAILOR 150 FleetBroadband to Thrane & Thrane during the satcom equipment manufacturer's Global Partner Conference, held in Copenhagen in June. SAILOR 150 FleetBroadband will be offered as part of Inmarsat's FleetBroadband service, which is aimed at professional single user applications such as workboats or fishing vessels, in addition to recreational boats, both power and sail. The system is designed for fulfilling reporting requirements, diagnosing faults, and web browsing.

Stratos Deploys FleetBroadband for the Royal Netherlands Navy

The trial led to the RNLN's purchase of the FleetBroadband from Stratos service, which it will use to manage its daily operations at sea. RNLN is the first organization to commercially deploy the FleetBroadband service. The three-month field trial was conducted onboard the RNLN Van Kinsbergen in Western European waters, including the Western Baltic. Radio managed the installation of a Thrane & Thrane SAILOR 500 FleetBroadband terminal onboard the vessel. FleetBroadband also was successfully integrated with AmosConnect to manage all email traffic. Other applications successfully tested during the trial included web browsing, instant messaging, video chat, digital faxing via eFax, and weather forecasting via MeteoConsult's SPOS.
