New Offshore Wind Service Firm Looking to Raise up to $89M via Private Placement

Integrated Wind Solutions, a newly formed offshore wind service company owned by Norway's Awilhelmsen investment group, is eyeing a private placement of new shares in the company in connection with a listing on Euronext Growth Oslo, aiming to raise up to $89 million.Integrated Wind Solutions describes itself as a company that aims to be a leading offshore wind service player by integrating service operation vessels with engineering and manpower services in the windfarm’s construction and operations phase.

Singapore Readies 'Floating Hotels' for Workers as Coronavirus Spreads

Singapore is preparing to house hundreds of foreign workers in accommodation vessels typically used for offshore and marine industry staff as it races to find alternatives to dormitories where the novel coronavirus has been spreading rapidly.Tens of thousands of migrant workers, many from South Asia, live in cramped dormitories across Singapore, which have become the biggest source of coronavirus infections in recent days.Authorities are moving some of the healthy residents of those facilities to other sites including military camps…

Foss Ships Utility Trucks to Puerto Rico

At the Port of Virginia in Norfolk and the Port of Lake Charles in Louisiana, Foss Maritime is loading hundreds of utility trucks onto barges bound for Puerto Rico this week. It’s all part of the on-going effort to restore power to nearly half of the population who are without electricity. Last Friday, Ricardo Rosselló, governor of Puerto Rico, announced that 1.5 million Puerto Ricans are still without power 100 days after Hurricane Maria hit Sept. 20. As part of the on-going power restoration effort, Foss is working with a coalition of 19 U.S. electric companies to deliver between 500 and 600 utility trucks, including bucket trucks, line trucks, pickups, aerial lifts, CAT skid-steer loaders, digger derricks, and pull trailers.

Foss Joins FEMA's Hurricane Relief Operations

Foss Maritime Company said it has contracted with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to support the relief and rebuilding efforts in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands following Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria. Three accommodation vessels are being utilized and will serve as floating hotels, providing safe housing and warm meals for responders. With these vessels, Foss will be able to help feed and temporarily house 729 people.

Hamburg to Roll out Third Cruise Ship Terminal

To meet the cruise industry’s growing demand, Hamburg will open its third cruise terminal in Steinwerder, a former island separated by the Elbe River from downtown Hamburg, according to the port authority. Hamburg is Germany’s leading port for luxury cruise ships. The expectation is the fact that ever bigger floating hotels are going to be making the Elbe River at the avenue for call. The Hamburg Cruise Center Steinwerder is designed to handle up to 8,000 passengers at once. To ensure smooth passenger and baggage flow, the terminal will feature separate entry and exit areas, allowing for simultaneous boarding and disembarking of passengers. Other cruise terminals are in operation at HafenCity Hamburg and Altona.

Reports on Rosneft Arctic Projects

On December 18, Member of Rosneft Board of Directors, special representative of President of the Russian Federation on international cooperation in the Arctic and Antarctic Artur Chilingarov made a report "Russia and Norway: Prospects for Cooperation in the Arctic" at the Fridtjof Nansen Institute. "Arctic development will help to melt the ice of distrust between Russia and the West," Chilingarov asserted. He cited Rosneft's joint projects as examples of successful Russian-Norwegian cooperation on the Arctic shelf. He emphasized, that the recent Pobeda (Victory) oil field discovery in the Kara Sea became a common victory, primarily, for the Russian and Norwegian specialists. The Universitetskaya well drilling results surpassed the boldest expectations.

And that would be a shame according to her many supporters, not the least of which was the late newsman and sailor, Walter Cronkite.

Siemens Charter Newbuild Offshore Wind Service Vessels

Siemens Energy has signed a chartering agreement with ship owner Esvagt A/S for two new offshore wind service vessels commissioned specifically for Siemens' service operations at the Butendiek and Baltic II offshore wind power plants, Germany, both of which are scheduled to come online in 2015. Rather than the floating hotels that use smaller vessels or helicopters to access the turbines, the new vessels will provide direct access using an advanced hydraulic gangway system that will work to stabilize and provide safe access to the turbines at varying wave conditions.

RINA and Drydocks World Team Up

Abu Dhabi Charters Two Cruise Ships as Floating Hotels

Abu Dhabi's Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC) has chartered two cruise ships which will be berthed in the UAE capital as floating hotels from tomorrow until the end of February to ease heightened accommodation demand in the city as a result of major events and exhibitions. The 401 room New Flamenco, operated by Florida's Elysian Ship Management Inc, and the 274 room Ocean Majesty, operated by Majestic International Cruises based in Greece, complete with a combined crew complement of around 450, will offer convenient accommodation during their berth at the capital's Mina Zayed Free Port. The Shipbuilding Joint Stock Company (SHINEC) has won a $200,000 contract to build the interiors for five ships owned by the RAON group of the Czech Republic. The work, covering wooden wall and floor planks, furniture, cupboards and lounge bars, is expected to last through the end of the year. The conversion of five ships owned by RAON into luxurious “floating hotels” is part of the largest-ever ship engineering project by the Republic of Czech, under the general European countries’ scheme to boost the country’s sea transport services and cruise travelling. The ships, after being upgraded, will become GOLFBOATs, opulent ships designed as 34-room hotels, each with modern amenities such as golf clubs and shops, indoor golf facilities, swimming pools and restaurants.
