Green new-build wins GAC Group Chairman's Environment Award for GEMS

The commitment of GAC Energy & Marine Services (GEMS) to sustainability when building its new purpose-built office and warehouse building in Houston, Texas, has earned it the First Prize in the GAC Group Chairman's Award for Environmental Excellence for 2013. The 180,000+ square feet LEED (Leader in Energy & Environmental Design) certified facility opened in September 2013 to serve GEMS customers while minimizing its impact on the environment and achieving significant savings in energy costs. Built on a previously developed site to avoid the use of unutilised land and the destruction of natural habitat, the building's 'green' design include features which reduce energy and water savings by 34% and 40%, respectively, compared to a conventional office/warehouse building.

Robert Allan’s First of Class Design Alaryam

IRSHAD, a joint venture between ADNOC and Lamnalco, have just taken delivery of their latest high-performance terminal support/escort tug from Astilleros Balenciaga SA, of Zumaia, Spain. The Alaryam is the latest delivery of the widely acclaimed RAstar Class true escort tug designs from Robert Allan Ltd., Naval Architects of Vancouver, BC., but in actual fact was the first tug of the RAstar series ever designed. The design was the subject of an extensive series of model testing to prove the concept.

New RAstar Tug for Svitzer Marie of Denmark

Svitzer Marine Ltd., a division of Svitzer AS of Copenhagen, Denmark, has taken delivery of their latest high-performance tug from Astilleros Zamakona SA. The Svitzer Pembroke is the latest of the RAstar Class true escort tug designs from Robert Allan Ltd., Naval Architects of Vancouver, BC. The RAstar 3600 class Svitzer Pembroke falls in size between its five 111.5-ft (RAstar 3400) and one 128-ft (RAstar 3900) cousins all working at the Milford Haven terminals, and all built to Robert Allan Ltd. designs.

Two RAstar 3800 Tugs from Robert Allan

The Rawasi and Morooj, a pair of RAstar 3800 Class high performance terminal/escort tugs, have just entered service with their Owner, Bakri Navigation Co. Ltd. of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Both tugs were built by NGV Tech Sdn. Bhd. in Malaysia. The Rawasi was delivered to the Gulf region in late October 2009, and the Morooj in January 2010. The RAstar family of tug designs represents a truly unique and significant development in offshore tug design. The hull form incorporates a significant outward flare (or sponson) on the upper hull sides.

First of Series of RAstar 3600 Class Tugs

The Lamnalco Sana'a, the first in a series of four new high-performance Terminal/Escort tugs, was delivered in April 2009 by Med Marine of Turkey to the owner's, Lamnalco of the United Arab Emirates. First RAstar Class Tugs Enter Service

A unique new design of high performance terminal/escort tug has just entered service at the Dragon LNG terminal in Milford Haven, U.K., under the Svitzer flag. The Svitzer Lindsway was delivered to the UK from the builders Freire Construcciones Navales of Vigo, Spain in early November, 2008. The overall contract for this entire project comprised two distinct designs for vessels of the new RAstar 3900 (one off) and the RAstar 3400 Classes (five off). Due to differences in major machinery and performance requirements there are also two machinery variants in the 111.5 ft tugs.
