ZF Marine Debuts 4600 POD Propulsion System

Marine driveline specialist ZF announced it will premier its new 4600 POD Propulsion System for large vessels for the first time in North American markets during this week’s Fort Lauderdale Boat Show (FLIBS).Engineered for large recreational and commercial vessels with planing and semi-displacement hulls measuring from 80 up to 130 feet, the 4600 POD Propulsion system first set sail in the Grande 26M motor yacht by Azimut last fall, but has been unavailable outside of European markets until now.

Caterpillar Marine say they will unveil a significant product milestone at the 2013 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, introducing the Cat® Three60 Pod 650, which is specifically designed for the new Cat C8.7 electronically controlled marine propulsion engine. The new Cat Three60 Pod 650 revolutionizes docking and slow-speed maneuvering for diesel-powered yachts. Available in spring 2015, the pod is specifically designed to be remarkably easy for customers to learn, with easy ‘push, twist and go’ maneuvering.

WESMAR to Introduce New Fin for Yachts

WESMAR (Western Marine Electronics) will introduce a 50-square-foot mega fin at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show on October 27-31 in Florida. Designed for luxury yachts, charter and super yachts, these new fins, coupled with WESMAR’s triple axis digital DSP4800 control electronics, are designed to reduce up to 90% of vessel roll. They are rugged with a neutrally buoyant design that adds lift, and are designed with added strength and reliability to meet the high performance requirements of vessels up to 250+ feet.

Intermarine/SCAD Motorboat Project Nears Completion

Intermarine Savannah is helping students learn the art of yachtbuilding by offering its cast of experts as overseers in the creation of a 21-ft. motorboat, Intermarine Savannah has literally orchestrated its own hands-on textbook by assisting students from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) to conceive, design and construct a unique pleasure-boat using the company’s materials and techniques. Aside from donating classroom space for the vessel’s construction process, Intermarine Savannah has provided thousands of dollars in materials and time spent with a student-crew of 24 undergraduates. Palmer Johnson Introduces Sport Yacht Series

Palmer Johnson, luxury yacht builder, has a new president and is introducing a new line of sport yachts. Mike Kelsey, Jr. was elected president of the Sturgeon Bay, Wisc. yacht builder in June 2004. Kelsey's grandfather, Patrick Haggerty, founder of Texas Instruments, purchased the yard in 1961. Kelsey's father Mike Kelsey, Sr. immediately went to work for Haggerty and passed the knowledge of fine yacht building down to his son. While there have been tough financial times at Palmer Johnson during recent years, the younger Kelsey believes the company's new line of sport yachts is a winner. At last year's Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, Palmer Johnson introduced Cover Drive, a very sleek 120-ft. sport yacht.

Leica Chosen As Supplier For Callan Marine

Callan Marine has selected Leica's MX 480 Professional Chart Navigator for the new Callan 55 high-performance luxury speedboat. Powered by twin 3,750-hp helicopter turbine engines with Arneson surface drives, the high-tech vessel features fly-by-wire controls built into the joystick handles and a custom touch-screen control panel. The first prototype of the project was revealed at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show held in November. An integrated navigation system - MX-480 includes a Leica MX 412B professional DGPS navigator. The system is reportedly the first model in the industry to be custom designed and rigged directly from 3D CAD design renderings.
