Simrad Debuts HALO 2000, HALO 3000 Radars at FLIBS

Simrad Yachting unveiled two of its new radar products this week: the Simrad HALO 2000 and HALO 3000. HALO 2000, starting at $6,399, and HALO 3000, starting at $8,499, both feature higher power pulse compression and improved detection ranges to offer the most powerful Simrad HALO radars on the market. An advanced, 60 cm marine satellite antenna system designed to consistently deliver the fastest data speeds globally to the maritime market will be unveiled tomorrow by KVH Industries, Inc., at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, in Florida. The TracPhone V7-HTS achieves data download speeds of up to 10 Mbps, three times faster than current 60 cm models on the market, including KVH’s own system, and fast enough to enable the streaming of HD-quality content at sea. Arneson Surface Drives Enhanced with Master Trim

Twin Disc, manufacturer of technologically advanced marine transmissions, has announced an expansion to its line of Arneson Surface Drives. WESMAR to Showcase New Stabilizer Technology

WESMAR said it will display its stabilizers, thrusters, sonar and hydraulics at the 58th Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show November 1 to 5, 2017. Held in what is known as the “Yachting Capital of the World,” the exhibition covers an area 9-miles-long and draws visitors from around the world. “As boat values continue to increase and moorage and dock space become more crowded, WESMAR products have become among the most important equipment owners and captains have come to rely on,” said Bob Sentz, WESMAR Vice President.

Carlyle Group Acquires LMC

Global alternative asset manager The Carlyle Group today announced the acquisition of Lauderdale Marine Center (LMC), the nation's largest yacht repair facility in terms of the number of large vessels it can haul and service. Equity for the transaction comes from Carlyle Realty Partners VII, a U.S. real estate investment fund. "In partnership with the outstanding management team and staff at LMC, we will build upon LMC's success through growth and continued innovation and superb customer service," said Thad Paul, Managing Director at The Carlyle Group. Located in Fort Lauderdale on the New River, visible from I-95 and close to Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport, LMC is a 50-acre facility consisting of a boatyard, marina and marine service center.

Third Superyacht under Construction at Sunrise Yachts

After successful launches of two 45m Sunrise vessels – superyacht Africa (2009) and luxury yacht Atomic (2014) – the Turkish shipyard has recently laid the keel of the third 45m motor yacht at its yard in Antalya, with a scheduled completion time of 26 months. The Sunrise 45 metre is a luxurious full-displacement motor yacht offering remarkable volumes at 499 GT, and unusual deck heights. The third one is now in build currently at their Antalya facilities is another tri-deck. The full displacement megayacht has had her keel laid already and having her structure fleshed out. This series of yacht is definitely a winner with both of them being recognized in international media constantly and the Atomic being able to have been a finalist in the World Superyacht Awards last year.

Eastern's Columbia on Display in Fort Lauderdale

Eastern Shipbuilding Group’s reengineered Columbia, built from the original design plans of the classic 1923 Essex-built schooner, will be on display at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, October 30-November 3, 2014. The original Columbia, a 141’ classic Gloucester Fishing Schooner designed by William Starling Burgess, built at the historic A.D. Story shipyard of Essex, Massachusetts and launched April 17, 1923, was bred for speed, challenging – and nearly defeating – Canada’s legendary Bluenose schooner in the International Fishermen’s Cup Races in Halifax.

Pink Lashings Raise Money for Breast Cancer Research

As the first Peters & May Pink Lashings shipment leaves Palma for Fort Lauderdale, the global marine transport company is calling all yacht owners to support its campaign to help raise £25,000 for the charity, Breast Cancer Clinical Trials (BCCT). The initiative, launched this October in Breast Cancer Awareness Month, gives yacht owners using Peters & May the option to have specially manufactured pink lashing straps in support of the charity when their vessel is secured for transportation.

1923 Schooner Replica Completes Sailing Trials

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. (ESG) announced that the Columbia (ESG Hull 981) a steel hull exact replica of the historic Gloucester Fishing Schooner, has completed her sailing trials. The sailing trials were held on September 18, 2014 directly offshore of the beaches of Panama City, Florida. Ninety-one years earlier, the original Columbia was officially measured on October 27, 1923 just before her race with the Bluenose by Raymond J. Milgate, a marine surveyor of Halifax, N.S. The original Columbia was a 141’ classic wooden hull Gloucester Fishing Schooner built at the historic A.D.

(ESG) informs that a steel hull replica of the historic Gloucester Fishing Schooner COLUMBA has been launched at its Panama City, Florida, shipyard with employees, dignitaries and guests in attendance. Story shipyard of Essex, Massachusetts, which was the center for North American Fishing Schooner construction. ISS Names Board of Directors

Change in Organization’s Bylaws Specify Revised Board Tenure and Structure. The ISS (International Superyacht Society) announces its 2012-2015 Board of Directors and Past Presidents Council. ISS elections are held annually by peer selection. During 2011, ISS membership ratified changes to the Association’s Bylaws which now state that a total of 24 elected Board members will serve three-year terms. During the 2012, 2013 and 2014 election cycles, the ISS Board will be in transition. For the current year and based on a democratic voting system, ISS members have awarded eight Board positions for three years and four Board positions for one-year terms with the opportunity to re-run for the 2013-2016 term.

Yachting Industry Future Debated at Monaco Yacht Show

Marine Industries Association of South Florida hosts Monaco discussions with international grouping on the future of the yachting industry. The Marine Industries Association of South Florida (MIASF) recently played host to twenty-six industry notables representing twelve industry associations interested in promoting professionalism within the yachting industry. The invite only luncheon, held at the Monaco Yacht Club, included international associations and dignitaries that have a vested interest in improving the economic opportunities of the global yachting market. An industry wide code of ethics, equitable value proposition, and enhanced product merchandising were all discussed in a vibrant exchange with an international perspective.

Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, October 25-29, 2012, sees the debut of Swedish-built powerboat Delta 80 IPS.
