Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA) has honored Thomas B. Crowley, Jr., CEO and Chairman of the Crowley Corporation, as Person of the Year.The Academy has an established tradition of honoring a civilian or military leader with a distinguished career of excellence, innovation, and service to the maritime industries and other related industries with the Emery Rice Medal, named for an 1897 Academy graduate and WWI hero. Interview: Will Roberts, President, Foss Maritime

Will Roberts joined Seattle-based Foss Maritime in 2017 as chief commercial officer, and in 2018 he was named chief operating officer. Prior to joining Foss, Roberts held a number of leadership roles for marine systems and services provider Rolls-Royce, rising to senior vice president, customer and services–Americas. A U.S. Navy veteran, Roberts served as a qualified deck and engineering officer aboard the fast attack submarine USS Honolulu. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with a degree in ocean engineering and holds a Master of Engineering Management from Old Dominion University.

Crowley Scholarships Aid Four UW Students

Crowley Maritime Corporation recently awarded Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarships to four seniors studying at the University of Washington’s (UW) Michael G. Foster School of Business. The students, Joshua Banks, Kainen Bell, Maninder Grewal and Xuan Liao, were each chosen to receive a $2,500 scholarship for the 2015-2016 academic year based on their demonstrated financial need, community involvement and leadership skills. Joshua Banks, a two-time Crowley scholarship recipient is currently studying finance and entrepreneurship at UW.

Matson Promotes Gill as Alaska VP

Matson, Inc. has promoted Kenny Gill to the position of Vice President, Alaska. In his new role, Gill has management responsibility for all Matson operations in Alaska, including terminal operations, customer service, sales and financial performance of the company's terminals in Anchorage, Kodiak and Dutch Harbor. Gill previously served as Senior Director of Operations for Horizon Lines' Alaska division. Crowley Maritime Awards Scholarships to UNF & UW Students

Crowley Maritime Corporation has awarded six Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarships: Firstly for two students at the University of North Florida (UNF), and secondly to four  students at University of Washington’s (UW) Foster School of Business. Crowley’s Jim Gillen, vice president of engineering, petroleum services, presented the scholarships to Brandon Little and Aquiles Rodriguez for their academic excellence and enrollment in UNF’s transportation and logistics program. Each student will receive $2,500 toward their tuition.

Crowley Maritime Corporation recently awarded two scholarships to students at the University of Washington's Michael G. Foster School of Business. The students - Rene Elamparo and Senait Chrisostomo - were chosen for their academic achievements, ambitious business goals and financial need. A first generation Filipino, Elamparo's parents immigrated to the United States and at a young age instilled in him the importance of education and what it helps build a successful life.
