ONR Researchers Awarded for Achievements

The Office of Naval Research (ONR) bestowed five researchers with high honors in a ceremony Aug. 14 during the 2008 ONR Naval S&T Partnership Conference held in . Dr. Bobby Junker was presented with the Fred E. Saalfeld Award for a Lifetime Achievement in Science. Four others received the Vice Adm. G. Bowen Award for their work resulting in patented inventions, David Abdow, James Butts, Donald Cox and Stephen Oliver. Junker was selected for the lifetime achievement award for his more than 30 years of leadership in research in the defense industry. He is the department head for the Command, Control, Communications & Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance Department at ONR.

ONR Presents Dr. Fred E. Saalfeld Award

Chief of Naval Research and the Office of Naval Research (ONR) honored the recipient of the 2006 Dr. Fred E. Saalfeld Award for Outstanding Lifetime Achievement in Science at a ceremony at ONR's headquarters in Arlington, Va., Oct. 30. Rear Adm. William Landay III and ONR honored Dr. Michael F. Shlesinger as the 2006 recipient. The Dr. Fred E. Saalfeld Award recognizes the significant lifetime achievements in science by individuals who are civilian employees with the Department of the Navy, members of the military service on active duty, or grantees or contractors funded by the Department of the Navy. The award consists of a plaque, a certificate, and $7,500, for government civilians or military personnel.
