Eastern Hosts Keel Authentication for New Bridgeport-Port Jefferson Ferry
Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. (ESG) on March 9 hosted a keel authentication ceremony at its Allanton Shipyard in Panama City, Fla. for a new 302-foot auto and passenger ferry for the Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Steamboat Company.Steel cutting for ESG Hull 228 commenced in January 2023 and a delivery is scheduled for 2024. New Ferry Service to Long Island
A new intermodal service for the Tri-State area offers a transportation alternative linking New York City, New Jersey and Connecticut with Long Island. The new service, launched in partnership between Seastreak, the Bridgeport–Port Jefferson Ferry and Hampton Jitney, uses a combination of ferries and busses to transport passengers from New York City, New Jersey and Connecticut to Long Island. Beginning May 22, 2015, the seasonal weekend service called Sea Jitney will carry passengers to and from these locations with the Port Jefferson dock as the hub.

Derecktor Christens New Dry Dock
The Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Joan McDonald shook off her champagne soaked hands and flashed a big smile after she smashed a champagne bottle on her first try to christen the "Robert E. McDonald had the honor of christening the Robert E. Derecktor, the newly recommissioned dry dock at Derecktor Shipyards. The dry dock will allow the Bridgeport boat yard to repair and build larger ships. “The partnership between Derecktor Shipyards and the state has been a fruitful one and one we hope will continue for years to come,” said Joan McDonald. “Derecktor is a brand known round the world, and we’re proud to support its growth.
PVA Elects New Leadership
Members of the Passenger Vessel Association (PVA) have elected Richard “Dick” Purinton as 2001 president. Also elected were Fredrick “Fred” Hall as vice president and Gary Frommelt as secretary-treasurer. Prior to becoming president, Purinton served as PVA vice president and secretary-treasurer. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Journalism. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he became president of the Great Lakes Ferry Boat Association. He has been with Washington Island Ferry Line since 1979, the year it joined PVA. Hall was vice president and general manager of Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Steamboat Company, which operates three, automobile and passenger ferry across the Long Island Sound to Bridgeport, Conn.
Hall Elected President of PVA
Fred Hall was elected PVA 2002 President on Tuesday, February 19 during the PVA Annual Convention at MariTrends 2002 in Biloxi, Miss. Hall is Vice President and General Manager of the Bridgeport and Port Jefferson Steamboat Company, Port Jefferson, N.Y., a provider of ferry service across the Long Island Sound. This ferry service has been in business since 1883 and now operates three 100-vehicle/1000-passenger vessels. Prior to being elected PVA President, Hall has served as PVA Vice-President, PVA Secretary-Treasurer and co-chairman of the PVA Legislative Committee. He was also a founding member and a past chairman of the PVA Ferry Council.
Moose Boats Launches New Design
Moose Boats announced its latest boat design, the S3000, an outboard catamaran, during the Fred Hall Fishing Tackle and Boat Show, March 6 - 10, at the Long Beach Convention Center. With twin Yamaha 225 HP, four-stroke, fuel injected outboards and the catamaran design; the S3000 has a top end speed of 40 knots and a cruise speed of 32 knots. The overall length is 32.5 ft. and weighs approximately 8,800 lbs. dry and holds 300 gallons of fuel, which provides a comfortable 450 mile range. Moose Boats only builds aluminum catamarans. The S3000 is the first outboard fishing boat that takes full advantage of this stable cat design. The all welded aluminum hull makes the S3000 a rugged, all weather boat that can handle the most demanding sea conditions.
