A New Generation of WTIVs

WTIVs have always been fuel-hungry. Now they are being tasked with installations that are further, deeper and heavier.Offshore wind farms continue their march into deeper water, further from shore, with turbines that can now reach more than 270 meters high with blades 120 meters long. Designers and OEMs are pushing efficiency to new levels to contain OPEX on the new-generation jack-up WTIVs taking them up there.Danish ship design firm Knud E. Hansen has chosen specialization for its Atlas A-class WTIV, a smaller derivation of its massive C-class design.

HST Marine Orders Three Battery-powered Fast Crew Suppliers from Damen

Offshore energy industry services provider High Speed Transfers (HST) Marine has ordered three Fast Crew Suppliers 2710s from Damen Shipyards for an undisclosed fee.Damen Shipyards said that the vessels would be fitted with 190kW battery arrays that will enable them to operate emissions-free both when in harbour and when loitering offshore awaiting the retrieval of their technicians. In zero-emission mode, the vessels will be propelled by an electrical motor that is connected via the gearbox (PTI) to the propeller shaft.

Subsea 7 Rises on Improved Outlook, Cash Dividend

Engineering firm, a major supplier to the oil industry, has decided to pay a regular dividend and buy back stock as it swung to a full-year profit in 2021 and its outlook improved, the company said on Thursday.Subsea 7 said it "firmly" believed that the market recovery was underway based on increased interest from its customers and it now expects its 2022 earnings to be "in line or better" than last year.Its Oslo-listed shares rose 6.5% by 1019 GMT, on track for their biggest daily gains in some 18 months, following the release of its October-December and full-year earnings.Analysts said the s

Maersk Tankers to Establish Decarbonization Hub

Concordia Damen Tug for Walsh

Dutch shipbuilding major Damen Shipyards Group said that it has signed a contract with London construction services provider S. Walsh & Sons (Walsh) for a CS2010 pusher tug from Concordia Damen.The pusher will be available for quick delivery in summer this year as a result of Concordia Damen’s practice of building stock hulls, the shipbuilder said.The CS 2010 will join the growing Walsh marine fleet operating on the River Thames in the UK – including the Damen Multi Cat 1908 delivered in 2019. HST Takes Delivery of 4th FCS

The UK-based High Speed Transfers (HST) has taken delivery of its fourth fast crew supplier (FCS) 2710, eighteen months after receiving its first, the HST 'Hudson'.HST received HST Hudson, in June 2018, which was followed by HST Sofia in March 2019 and HST Harri in October of the same year.The latest addition is named HST Euan and in mid-January 2020 she was loaded on to a heavy lift vessel at Damen Shipyards Antalya in Turkey bound for Rotterdam.The HST Euan replicates the features and layout of her sister ships. These include capacity for 26 passengers in safety and comfort and the ability to operate in wave heights of more than two meters.

Prince Frederik to Address WindEurope Event

Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark will deliver the opening address at the WindEurope Offshore 2019, which is claimed to be the world’s largest event dedicated to offshore wind.The event, which will take place in Copenhagen from 26 to 28 November, will gather 9,000 participants and more than 400 exhibitors as the industry gears up to help deliver Europe’s goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050.After Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark the Prime Minister of Denmark on 26, November, Mette Frederiksen, will address the event. Then Energy Minsters from around Europe and offshore wind industry leaders will complete the opening session.Denmark has been at the forefront of wind energy development with the world’s first ever offshore wind farm – Vindeby – in 1991.

Greenland Summit Focus on Polar Code

Changing climatic conditions are opening up the polar regions to more and more maritime activity, said International Maritime Organization (IMO).But ships which operate in the harsh Arctic and Antarctic regions are exposed to many unique risks – so their safety, and the protection of the polar environment, have always been a matter of concern for IMO.IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim is visiting Ilulissat, Greenland (25-29 August) to participate in a high-level roundtable on Arctic shipping. Offshore Energy: Semco to Prep Rig Floatel Victory for Action

Semco Maritime has won the contract to upgrade the Floatel Victory accommodation rig. Following the upgrade, the rig will sail out to undertake a contract in the British sector of the North Sea for Maersk Oil UK. Floatel Victory, owned by Floatel International, is expected to call at the Semco Maritime rig yard at Hanøytangen, Bergen, at the beginning of June after expiry of current contract with BP. ”We are pleased that Floatel International has chosen us for the assignment. This is an important order for Semco Maritime’s rig yard at Hanøytangen.

Subsea 7: Offer Could Change if McDermott Cooperates

Norwegian offshore oil services firm Subsea 7 is open to potentially sweetening its $2 billion offer for McDermott if the U.S. company would work with it to identify additional benefits of a deal, Subsea said on Wednesday. The Norwegian firm's comments come a week before McDermott's shareholders vote on a planned combination with Chicago Bridge and Iron (CB&I), which McDermott's board has recommended its investors to support while rejected Subsea's proposal "Subsea 7 is open to considering amending its proposal if it can discover additional value through discussions with the McDermott management team," Subsea, one fifth owned by Norwegian billionaire Kristian Siem, said in a statement.

Royal IHC, Jan de Nul Seal Dredge Pumps Seal

Royal IHC has been awarded a contract for the delivery of dredge pumps by Luxembourgbased Jan De Nul Group. The agreement incorporates two onboard double-walled dredge pumps for the company’s new 18,000m3 trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD), as well as onboard single-walled dredge pumps for two other 6,000m3 TSHDs. “We are delighted that we have secured another order from Jan De Nul Group,” says Dave Vander Heyde, CEO of Royal IHC. Seadrill, Creditors Reach Joint Restructuring Deal

Shipping tycoon John Fredriksen has reached an agreement with a majority of creditors over a restructuring plan for oil rig firm Seadrill, according to U.S. court documents on Monday. The company, once the world's largest offshore driller by market value, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection with debt and liabilities of over $10 billion last September after a sharp drop in oil prices in 2014 cut demand for rigs. "It's good for all parties that Seadrill comes out of an expensive and time-consuming process," said Frederik Lunde, head of research at brokerage Carnegie.

Wärtsilä Inks 25 Maintenance Deal with Maersk Drilling

Wärtsilä said it has entered a cooperation with drilling contractor Maersk Drilling to create a 25-year thruster maintenance strategy for Maersk’s three semisubmersible rigs and four drillships. The parties have already completed the strategy work on the D-rigs and commenced the strategy work related to V-Drillships. Transocean to Buy Songa Offshore

About 77 pct of Songa shareholders have so far accepted deal. Transocean, one of the world's biggest drilling rig operators, has agreed a deal to buy Norwegian competitor Songa Offshore for 9.1 billion Norwegian crowns ($1.1 bln), the two companies said on Tuesday. The deal, which would be mostly paid for in shares and convertible bonds, would strengthen Transocean's position in offshore drilling as Songa is Norwegian oil major Statoil's largest drilling service provider. The offer values Songa shares at 47.50 Norwegian crowns each, a 39.7 percent premium over Monday's closing price. Shares in Songa surged 31 percent on news of the deal, which needs the backing of at least 90 percent of Songa shareholders. So far about 77 percent of shareholders have agreed to the offer, the company said.

Borr Drilling Scoops up Transocean Rigs for $1.4 Bln

Borr Drilling, founded by former executives of financially troubled Seadrill, has snapped up Transocean's fleet of shallow-water drilling rigs for $1.35 billion. The rig market deal is Borr's biggest since it was set up last year by Tor Olav Troeim and other executives who had left Seadrill, once the jewel in the crown of Norwegian-born shipping tycoon John Fredriksen but now battling with $14 billion in debt and liabilities. After years at Fredriksen's side, Troeim split with him in 2014. Since then Troeim has re-established himself as an independent player in the global shipping market with a high profile and a reputation for successful capital raising. Transocean, executives at Borr Drilling and Troeim were not immediately available for comment.

Scandlines’ Deploys New Ferry

On Wednesday 21 December 2016, Scandlines’ second new hybrid ferry for the Rostock-Gedser route, M/V Copenhagen, will carry passengers for the first time when it departs from Gedser towards Rostock at 09:00. Scandlines new hybrid ferry was registered 19 December 2016 and departed the same day from the Danish yard FAYARD A/S. 20 December 2016 it was practicing between Rostock and Gedser and today Wednesday 21 December 2016 at 09:00 from Gedser in Denmark the ferry will go into ordinary service. M/V Copenhagen is the second of two new hybrid ferries for the Rostock-Gedser route. M/V Copenhagen replaces M/V Kronprins Frederik, which will be used as a replacement ferry on both the Rostock-Gedser and Puttgarden-Rødby routes.

Navigator Gas Signs up for ShipServ

Navigator Gas, one of the world’s largest LPG vessel operators, has recently signed up to use ShipServ for all its procurement activities. The London-headquartered company recently took its ship management activities in-house based out of its Polish office in Gdynia and is now managing three vessels from Poland. The procurement tools and services available to Navigator Gas include ShipServ’s SpotSource and Supplier Recommendations service. The LPG operator will also use ShipServ’s range of purchasing KPIs based on the trading activities of more than 9,000 vessels.

Scandlines’ Hybrid Ferry in Operation

On Monday 23 May 2016, Scandlines’ new hybrid ferry, M/V Berlin, will for the first time carry passengers when it departs from Rostock towards Gedser at 06:00. Scandlines has now acquired all necessary certificates for the new hybrid ferry for the Rostock-Gedser route. M/V Berlin will therefore start practicing between Rostock and Gedser and on Monday 23 May 2016 at 06:00 will go into regular service. ”I am very proud of the result which we can present to our customers as of Monday. The project has been associated with several challenges, but walking around on the ferry, I am happy that we remained firm in our decision,” says Søren Poulsgaard Jensen, Scandlines’ CEO. M/V Berlin is the first of two new hybrid ferries for the route Rostock-Gedser.

A2SEA Wins Hornsea One Contract

From spring 2019, A2SEA will play a key role in building the world’s largest ever offshore wind farm, Hornsea Project One for DONG Energy. Capacity will be 1.2GW. A2SEA will deploy its purpose-built offshore installation vessel Sea Installer to install a part of the 174 Siemens 7MW turbines. ”It is a great pleasure and with pride that we can inform that A2SEA has signed a contract to in-stall turbines at what will become the world’s largest offshore wind farm, Hornsea Project One," says Jens Frederik Hansen, CEO at A2SEA. The Hornsea Project One OWF will be located 120km off the Yorkshire Coast, covering approx. 407 square kilometres. When fully commissioned, the 1.2GW offshore wind farm will provide green energy for well over 1 million homes in the UK.

MAN 32/44CR Engine for Trawler Newbuild

Voyager Fishing Company, Ltd., based in Kilkeel, Northern Ireland, has ordered a new trawler/purse seiner, designed by Salt Ship Design in Norway and to be built at Karstensens Skipsværft in Skagen, Denmark. The newbuilding will be powered by a propulsion package comprising a MAN 12V32/44CR main engine, a 4,400-mm ø MAN Alpha VBS 1100 propeller, a two-speed RENK Type RSVL1000 gearbox, and an Alphatronic AT3000 remote control system. Vessel delivery is scheduled for August 2017.
