Vard Awarded Stern Trawler Order from DFFU

Shipbuilder VARD announced it has secured a new contract for the design and construction of one stern trawler for Deutsche Fischfang-Union GmbH & Co. KG in Germany. The contract value  is in excess of  NOK 500 million.The stern trawler has been developed by VARD in close cooperation with Deutche Fischfang-Union (DFFU). The new vessel will be the first trawler of VARD’s own design sold to Germany.The VARD 8 03 trawler design is developed to meet the latest demands for fish health management, efficiency, and environmentally friendly operations.

Sanmar Delivers Tier lll Tug to Norwegian Operator

Sanmar has delivered its first Tier lll tugboat to Buksér og Berging AS, the first of two environmentally-friendly tugs ordered by the Norwegian operator. Built at Sanmar’s shipyard at Altinova in Turkey, the new tug has been named Bamse by its owners.Based on the TRAktor 3000-Z design from Canadian naval architects Robert Allan Ltd, the 30.45m LOA Bamse has a molded beam of 12.8m and navigational draft of 6.35m. It was delivered at the end of May and will carry out escort duties from Brevik, in Norway.

Sanmar Adds Two New Tugs

Sanmar Shipyards has delivered another vessel in its Delicay tug series—this time to its own fleet.Like its sister tugs, the the 25.3m x 12m x 6.1m Delicay Vlll is a Z-drive tractor tug built to Canadian naval architects Robert Allan Ltd’s exclusive to Sanmar TRAktor-Z 2500SX design, created in partnership with the Turkish tug-builder and operator for both harbor ship handling and towing duties.Built at Sanmar Shipyards Altinova, the tug is powered by 2x 2100kW main engines, giving it a speed ahead of around 12 knots and 75 tonnes of bollard pull.

Vard Scores Fishing Vessel Contract

Norwegian shipbuilder Vard announced it has secured a NOK 500 million $47.8 million) contract to design and build a stern trawler for fishing company P/F Akraberg, a subsidiary of Framherji in the Faroe Islands.Erik Haakonsholm, Vard's General Manager of Offshore and Specialized vessels, said, “The new contract is a bright spot for Vard, our employees and suppliers, and shows that it is possible to look forward despite challenging times.”The hull of the vessel will be built at the Romanian yard of the Group in Braila…

DNV GL Offers Free Sulfur SIP

Global certification body, DNV GL offers a free web-based application of the Ship Implementation Plan (SIP) to prepare for 2020 0.5% sulfur cap.The ship owners and managers can use the SIP to prepare vessel-specific SIPs and maintain an overview of their fleet, said a press release.While not mandatory, the SIP is an IMO guidance which all ships are encouraged to prepare and implement to be ready for 1 January 2020.“As we approach 2020, good preparation will be essential to ensure a smooth transition into using compliant low-sulfur fuels,” said Christos Chryssakis, Business Development Manager at DNV GL – Maritime.“This includes technical actions…

Eight Robert Allan Tugs for Persero

PT Pelabuhan Indonesia III (Persero) has taken delivery of the first eight, of a total 15, RAzer ASD tugs designed by Robert Allan Ltd. The two RAzer 2960, two RAzer 2935 and four RAzer 2940 tugs are part of a major terminal expansion and fleet renewal program undertaken by Pelindo III in its operational territory. The RAzer 2960s and RAzer 2935s were built by PT Daya Radar Utama Shipyards in Jakarta, Indonesia, and the RAzer 2940s were built by PT Dumas Tanjung Perak Shipyards in Surabaya, Indonesia. These will be the first Robert Allan Ltd. tugs to be designed specifically to operate from major ports in Indonesia, including the new container port of Terminal Teluk Lamong, near Surabaya.

Steel Cut for New Staten Island Ferry

The City of New York Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) Staten Island Ferry Division and Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. (ESG) cut steel to officially begin the construction of the first of three new 320’ Staten Island Ollis Class Ferries. The steel cutting ceremony held August 29, 2017 took place in Eastern’s steel processing and pre-fabrication building at its Allanton facility in Panama City, Fla. Attending the ceremony from Staten Island Ferry Division was John Collins, Director of Ferry Engineering and Bill Tomalonis, Vessel Construction Manager SIF Division.

Robert Alan Designed ATB Tugs for ITB Marine

The ITB Marine Group Ltd. (ITB) is currently well into construction of the first of two, twin Z-drive, ATB pusher tugs for service on the West Coast of North America. The tugs are being built at their Annacis Island Shipyard near Vancouver. The tugs will be connected by an articulating pin system to the existing double-hulled oil barges ITB Reliant and ITB Resolution which will receive retrofitted pin ladders and stern extensions for connecting to the new tugs. ITB had a well-defined statement of requirements for the tugs and a relatively clear vision of the desired layout. Accordingly, the general arrangement for the tug was developed in close collaboration with ITB Marine Group’s Chairman of the Board Captain Bob Shields.

Blount Boats Delivers Chicago Tour Boat

Blount Boats of Warren, R.I. has delivered the M/V Skyview to Shoreline Sightseeing, marking the builder’s second delivery for the Chicago sightseeing company. With a LOA of 100 feet and maximum beam of 35 feet, the steel Subchapter K passenger vessel designed by Seacraft Design, LLC is certified to carry up to 318 passengers and will operate as an architectural tour boat in partially protected waters. The vessel is powered by twin Volvo D13 MH, 400hp diesels with twin 65 kW John Deere generators, ZF W325 gearboxes, 2.933:1 ratio supplied and commissioned by Allemand Industries, Harvey, LA.

Blount Boats to Build Chicago Tour Boat

Blount Boats, Inc. has been contracted to build a 100- x 35-foot steel passenger ferry boat for Shoreline Sightseeing Co., Chicago, Ill. The proposed 300-plus passenger, Sub-Chapter K vessel was designed by Seacraft Design, LLC, Sturgeon Bay, Wisc. And will operate as an architectural tour boat in partially protected waters. New ATB Tug Built for Kirby

Nichols Brothers Boat Builders (Nichols Boats), located in Freeland, Wash., recently completed the M/V Nancy Peterkin, a 136’ x 44’ x 23’, 10,000 HP ATB Tug for Kirby Offshore Marine (Kirby), located in Houston, Texas. The Nancy Peterkin, built for Kirby Offshore Marine, was designed by Guarino & Cox using a round bridge hull form for optimum sea keeping and propulsive efficiency, the builder said. She is to couple into a 185,000 barrel barge built at Gunderson Marine in Portland, Oregon. This vessel will handle barges in full-ocean service.

2 Tugs from Robert Allan for Tauranga Port

The Tai Pari and Tai Timu, two RAmparts 2400W Class tugs designed by Robert Allan Ltd of Vancouver, Canada, have been delivered by Cheoy Lee Shipyards to the Port of Tauranga Limited. The Tai Pari arrived in New Zealand on June 5 after a 30 day voyage on her own bottom. The Tai Timu departed Hong Kong on May 30 and is expected to arrive at the end of June. These two vessels represent a significant upgrade to the Port of Tauranga's fleet. Robert Allan Ltd. The RT Discovery and RT Endeavour, ART 80-32 class Rotortugs, have been delivered by Cheoy Lee Shipyards to Owner’s Elisabeth Ltd. The vessels are currently in Hong Kong and are ready for deployment to a busy commodity Port in Western Australia. Eastern Delivers 6th OSV to Horbeck

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. announced the delivery of the M/V HOS Black Foot (Hull 206) to Hornbeck Offshore Services, LLC, ahead of schedule and on budget. The HOS Black Foot is Eastern’s sixth of 10 offshore support vessels under contract and the second vessel designated as the HOSMAX 310 series by Hornbeck Offshore. Each vessel is Diesel-Electric powered, twin Z-drive propelled OSVs. These high-tech vessels feature four Caterpillar 3516C 16-cylinder turbo-charged Tier III diesel generator engines each rated at 1,825 kW at 1,800 rpm. Main propulsion power is provided by two GE Energy furnished Hyundai 2,500 kW 690VAC electric motors driving two Schottel SRP 2020 FP Z-Drives with nozzles rated at 2,500 kW at 1,025 rpm each for a total of 6,704 Hp.

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. announced the launch of the HOS Black Watch (Hull 208) on Friday June 6, 2014 for Hornbeck Offshore Services, LLC. The HOS Black Watch is Eastern’s fourth vessel in Hornbeck Offshore’s HOSMAX 310 class series. The launching event was held at Eastern’s Allanton facility with hundreds of Eastern employees and guests in attendance. Also attending from Hornbeck was Bill Krewsky, Director of Engineering and Project Management, who spoke about the ongoing long term commitment, partnership and future of the two companies.

Eastern Shipbuilding Delivers BRAVANTE VII to GROUP

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. announced the on-time delivery of the M/V BRAVANTE VII (Hull 157) on Wednesday May 21, 2014 to Boldini S.A., BRAVANTE Group of Brazil three months after the delivery of BRAVANTE VI (Hull 156), the second in the series and which is  is currently on charter in Brazil. The BRAVANTE VII is the third (3rd) STX SV290 design of five vessels in a series which are all, ABS Classed, AC Diesel-Electric powered, twin Z-drive propelled PSV’s measuring 284’(86.5m) x 60’(18.3m) x 24’-6”(7.5m). These high-tech vessels feature four Cummins QSK-60DM 16-cylinder turbo-charged IMO Tier II diesel generator engines each rated at 1825 kW at 1,800 rpm. Cummins also furnished the four Marathon Model 744 690VAC main generators.

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. announced the launching of the HOS BLACK ROCK (Hull 207) on Friday March 28, 2014 for Hornbeck Offshore Services, LLC. The HOS BLACK ROCK is Eastern’s third vessel in Hornbeck Offshore’s HOSMAX 310 class series. The launching event was held at Eastern’s Allanton facility with hundreds of Eastern Employees and Guests attending despite rainy weather. Attending from Hornbeck was Bill Krewsky, Director of Engineering and Project Management. Bill spoke about the continued long term commitment, partnership and future of the two companies.

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. announced the launching of the HOS Black Foot (Hull 206) on Friday January 17, 2014 for Hornbeck Offshore Services, LLC. The HOS Black Foot is Eastern’s second vessel in Hornbeck Offshore’s HOSMAX 310 class series. The launching event was held at Eastern’s Allanton facility with hundreds of Eastern employees and guests attending, including Naval Architecture students from the University of New Orleans, La. who were visiting the shipyard. Attending from Hornbeck was Carl G. Annessa, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.
