Stena RoRo and Caterpillar Motoren have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote the use of methanol as fuel on board MaK-powered E-flexer class ferries.The partners will work together to explore alternative fuel solutions to reduce CO2 emissions from ferry operations. This includes the development and feasibility of converting MaK-powered ferries from diesel to methanol. An initial pilot project involves a Stena ferry equipped with VM 43 C MaK engines.Methanol is among a number of fuels being explored as an option to help the maritime industry reduce its environmental footprint.

Azane Fuel Solutions and ammonia-to-power provider Amogy have signed an MoU to explore the feasibility of using Amogy’s technology on board an Azane bunker vessel concept.The collaboration will explore the technical and commercial feasibility of the bunker vessel and also of an Azane ammonia fuel feeder solution integrated into the Amogy power system.Azane is a Norway based company developing the world’s first ammonia bunkering terminal. A new containership planned for operations in Europe is set to become the world's first to use pure ammonia as fuel.Yara Clean Ammonia and NorthSea Container Line are establishing a joint venture, NCL Oslofjord, to operate the ammonia-powered ship Yara Eyde on routes between Norway and Germany from 2026.The project has been awarded just over NOK 40 million (US$3.6 million) from Enova, a Norwegian government enterprise promoting clean energy technologies.Ammonia is one of several alternative fuels gaining traction in commercial shipping to help cut emissions.

Container shipping giants CMA CGM and Maersk said on Tuesday they will cooperate in efforts to reduce emissions in the sector, including by supporting the use of methanol and aiding research into potential fuels like ammonia. The shipping industry is grappling with which fuels and vessel technology to adopt on a large scale to meet an objective of net zero emissions by around the middle of the century. Danish group Maersk has focused on so-called green methanol and last week announced the creation a new company to produce fuel.

Norway-based offshore wind service vessel firm Edda Wind on Thursday took delivery of Edda Boreas CSOV from Gondan Shipyard. Norwegian offshore support vessel operator Eidesvik Offshore posted what it said was the second consecutive quarter with a revenue level not seen since 2016.The company's revenue was NOK 190.4 million, an increase of 9% compared to Q3 2021. EBITDA increased by 12% to NOK 91 million vs NOK 81.5 million. Norway-based company Amon Maritime has launched Amon Offshore - a new company focused on the offshore oil and gas market – with plans to operate carbon-free platform supply vessels. Moller-Maersk's towage operator arm Svitzer on Tuesday announced its commitment to become fully carbon neutral by 2040.The Denmark based company said it will am to reduce the CO2 intensity of its entire fleet by 50% by 2030, paving the way for fully carbon neutral operations in 2040 in line with A.P. Moller-Maersk’s ambition. Norwegian offshore wind service vessel firm Edda Wind has taken delivery of Edda Brint service operation vessel from Spain's Astilleros Balenciaga. The vessel is the second vessel delivered as part of a seven-vessel newbuilding program.The new Service Operation Vessel (SOV) will start installation of the motion compensated gangway system after leaving the yard in Spain, and start a fifteen-year contract with Vestas at the Seagreen Offshore wind farm in Scotland in January 2023. “The delivery of Edda Brint is a further evidence of Edda Winds ability to secure long-term contracts for its fleet.
