Navy's Third MCPON Bob Walker Has Passed Away
Robert "Bob" Walker, the U.S. Navy’s third Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) from September 25, 1975 to September 28, 1979, has passed away. Current MCPON (AW/NAC) Michael D. Stevens issued a statement on Walker’s passing: “It is with a heavy heart that I report the passing of our Navy's third Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy, Robert "Bob" Walker. He passed away peacefully at 1715 with his wife and family members by his side. Our office will provide dates and times for his memorial and funeral services as they become available.”

Garnett H. Carnahan Passes at 84
Longtime Springfield and Nixa business owner Garnett H. Carnahan passed away Saturday, February 22 at Mercy Hospital as the result of a brain aneurysm. He was 84 and was surrounded by family at his passing. Born in Windsor, Mo. to the late Hugh and Modena Bowman Carnahan, Garnett is survived by his wife of 26 years, Caroline Lee Carnahan, and 12 children: Kathy (Jeff) Munzinger, Kenny, Gerry (Alecia), Cindy (John) Byrd, Bryan, Robin (Denzil) Hood, Chris, Kelly (Dwight) Batiste, David (Kathy), Ben (Andrea), Louann and Hugh.
Shipping Firm To Offer Funeral Services
Japan's largest shipping company, Nippon Yusen KK, plans to offer a new funeral ash-scattering service in a bid to capitalize on demand fueled by the high cost of cemeteries in Japan. Although Japan's land prices fell for the 10th straight year in 2000, prices of graveyard plots have been soaring, particularly in big urban areas. As a result, many people want the ashes of their remains or those of their loved ones to be scattered in the ocean, particularly in the South Pacific, where many of Japan's elderly lost children or husbands during World War Two. And Nippon Yusen hopes to cash in on this growing demand through a business tie-up with Hasegawa, Japan's largest chain store operator of Buddhist altars, the business daily said.
