Shippers Called to Action in Fight against Ebola

Global shipping, logistics and marine services provider GAC Group is calling for shipping and logistics companies to invest in staff and crew education on how to reduce the risk of exposure to Ebola, and to keep up-to-date with precautionary measures being put in place around the world to contain the spread of the virus and minimize its impact on global transport. Monster Barge in Port Abidjan Serviced by GAC-OMA

The massive installation barge 'Hyundai 60' weighs in at 34,125t, is 187m long, equipped with a 1,800t crane, and was earlier engaged in pipe-laying & offshore installation works off the coast of Escravos. GAC Nigeria, with its local partner OMA Ivory Coast. says it provided a range of ship agency, husbandry & logistics services for her and her attendant fleet of support vessels in the Port of Abidjan. The barge was demobilised and moved to Abidjan for maintenance work while she's being held in stand-by until she is needed for the next phase starting in October 2014. Upon arrival, GAC worked with TRACE-certified local partner OMA Ivory Coast to provide the range of agency, supplies, crew and logistics support the 'Hyundai 60' needed for her stay in port.

Green new-build wins GAC Group Chairman's Environment Award for GEMS

The commitment of GAC Energy & Marine Services (GEMS) to sustainability when building its new purpose-built office and warehouse building in Houston, Texas, has earned it the First Prize in the GAC Group Chairman's Award for Environmental Excellence for 2013. The 180,000+ square feet LEED (Leader in Energy & Environmental Design) certified facility opened in September 2013 to serve GEMS customers while minimizing its impact on the environment and achieving significant savings in energy costs. Built on a previously developed site to avoid the use of unutilised land and the destruction of natural habitat, the building's 'green' design include features which reduce energy and water savings by 34% and 40%, respectively, compared to a conventional office/warehouse building.

GAC Hong Kong Wins Chairman’s Environment Award

GAC Hong Kong’s multiple eco-friendly efforts were awarded First Prize in the GAC Group Chairman’s Award for Environmental Excellence for 2012. Since 2009, the company has been recycling paper, aluminum, plastic, toner cartridges, electronic equipment and more. In 2011, GAC Hong Kong’s recycling efforts helped it reduce its carbon footprint by almost four tons, and earned it the second prize in the Chairman’s Award. In 2012, its broad and sustained commitment continued, and the company’s carbon footprint was reduced by more than five tons. The company’s commitment to preserving the environment went beyond the office, with staff volunteering for coastal clean-ups and tree-planting schemes organized by local environmental groups.

Hapag-Lloyd Chooses Nigeria, Ghana Partners GAC

Leading global liner shipping company Hapag-Lloyd has signed an agreement with the GAC Group to handle their vessels calling at ports in Nigeria and Ghana. Under the deal, GAC will act as full liner agents for Hapag-Lloyd, actively selling its liner services in the region, as well as providing a range of shipping agency and complementary services for its fleet.
