Eagle Bulk CEO Gary Vogel Named CMA Commodore

Gary Vogel, chief executive officer of Eagle Bulk Shipping Inc., has been named as the Connecticut Maritime Association (CMA) Commodore for the year 2022.The 2022 Commodore Award, given each year to a person in the international maritime industry who has contributed to the growth and development of the industry, will be presented on March 31, at the Gala Dinner marking the conclusion of the annual Connecticut Maritime Association conference and expo, in Stamford, Conn..Vogel has served as CEO and director of Eagle Bulk Shipping Inc. (NASDAQ: EGLE) since September, 2015.

Damen’s RSD Tug 2513 Nominated for KNVTS Award

Damen’s radical new ‘always bow first’ RSD Tug 2513 has reached the final stage of this year’s prestigious Maritime Award KNVTS Ship of the Year prize. As one of the last three entrants in contention for the award, the Damen RSD Tug 2513 will be judged on a range of criteria including its design, safety, economy, durability and construction process, and the winner will be announced at the Gala Dinner taking place on November 12th.The 25-meter RSD Tug 2513 is the result of years of research and development by Damen in cooperation with its towage customers and research institute partners.

Singapore Extends MFM Use

Following the successful completion of test-bedding the use of mass flow metering (MFM) system for delivery of distillates , the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) will extend the mandatory use of MFM to all bunker tankers delivering distillates1 in the Port of Singapore from 1 July 2019. Assistant Chief Executive (Operations) of MPA, Capt M Segar said this at the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) Asia Gala Dinner held last night (26 April 2018). The use of the MFM system will enhance transparency in the bunkering process, improve operational efficiency and increase the productivity of the bunkering industry.

Singapore to Require Flow Meters for Bunker Transfers

Singapore's Maritime Port Authority (MPA) is set to announce it is making use of mass-flow-meters (MFM) mandatory onboard marine gasoil barges used to refuel large ships, two people with knowledge of the matter said. The announcement will be made at a gala dinner in the city state organised by the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) later on Thursday, the people said. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak to the media. It wasn't immediately clear from which date the MPA will enforce the use of MFMs - designed to minimise inaccuracies and errors in measuring quantities delivered - on gasoil bunker barges. The people with knowledge of the matter said the date was likely to be either Jan. 1 or July 1 next year.

OSMC Holds India Seafarers Conference

Oman Ship Management Company (OSMC) has staged a conference in India enabling seafarers to share best practices and expand industry knowledge.It comes as OSMC figures reveal growth in its managed fleet expanding from 27 to 38 in last two years, largely due to expansion in its chartering business. More than 100 delegates joined the Officer’s Conference at the JW Marriot in Juhu, Mumbai. The two-day event involved seafarers from OSMC fleet vessels, office staff, crewing agencies and industry experts such as from Shell, P&I Clubs and Lloyds Register.

European Shipping Week Speaker Announced

Anthony Luzzatto Gardner, former US Ambassador to the European Union and Visiting Fellow at the College of Europe, will be the guest speaker at the European Shipping Week Gala Dinner, to be held on Wednesday 1st March 2017 at the Steigenberger Wiltcher Hotel in Brussels. Ambassador Gardner, who has dedicated more than 20 years of his career to US-European affairs, will speak on the important subject of ‘US-EU Relations: Looking Back, Looking Forward’. Welcoming the news, Patrick Verhoeven, Secretary General of the European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA) and Chairman of the European Shipping Week Steering Group, said his speech would be very insightful considering the political developments which have taken place in Europe and the US over recent months.

Incat Crowther Wins Australian Export Award

Incat Crowther has been chosen as the National Winner for the CPA Australia Business Services Award. European Shipping Week Receives EU Patronage

European Shipping Week has been granted the European Parliament’s official patronage by its President, Mr Martin Schultz. Gothenburg-based I-Tech’s Selektope antifouling agent has secured one of the prestigious European Marine Engineering Awards 2016, in recognition of the breakthrough marine coating ingredient’s Environmental Performance. Avalon Christens Newest Ship, Avalon Passion

River line Avalon Waterways has christened its newest Suite Ship class of river cruise vessels, the 166-passenger Avalon Passion, one week after the company launched another new Suite Ship, the 128-passenger Avalon Imagery II. Built at a shipyard in the Netherlands, Passion joins eight other Avalon vessels sailing at least part of the year on the Danube. The river cuts through more than half a dozen countries including Germany, Austria and Hungary. U.S. women's national soccer team coach Jill Ellis served as godmother for the 166-passenger vessel during a christening ceremony along the waterfront of Linz, Austria. It's a port the ship will visit often over the coming year.
