Body Found in Search for Missing Texas A&M Maritime Academy Cadet

Authorities in Galveston, Texas say they have found what is believed to be the remains of a Texas A&M Maritime Academy cadet who has been missing since Wednesday.Texas A&M-Galveston officials said they were notified by the Galveston Police Department Friday afternoon that a body found on Pelican Island near the Galveston Campus is believed to be missing cadet Brandon Lee Perlowski, though the identification has not been confirmed.The news comes less than 24 hours after another student was found deceased in his residence hall room Thursday night.

Tug and Barge Disabled near Galveston

Emergency responders are working to keep a disabled tug and barge from running aground off of Texas. U.S. Coast Guard response and incident management teams are coordinating with G & H Towing and T & T Marine Salvage to prevent a disabled tug and barge from running aground on Galveston Island, Texas. At 2:19 p.m. Saturday, an agent for the integrated tug OSG Independence and its barge OSG 243 contacted Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders to report that the tug separated from the barge in heavy seas off the Galveston Island Pleasure Pier, while dragging both anchors.

Coast Guard Ends 2 Searches in Gulf

The Coast Guard ended two searches today in the Gulf of Mexico off the Texas and Louisiana coasts after thorough searches turned up no results. In the first case, the Coast Guard called off the search for a missing swimmer in San Luis Pass near Freeport, Texas. The 17-year-old Hispanic male is missing after swimming in San Luis Pass Tuesday evening. The Galveston Police Department notified the Coast Guard of the missing swimmer about 8:40 p.m. Tuesday. The Coast Guard conducted many searches with a 47-foot rescue boat, from Coast Guard Station Galveston, Texas, and an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Houston. A boat and personal watercraft from the Galveston Beach Patrol and a boat from the Galveston County Sheriff's Marine Division also assisted with the search.
