FURUNO of Japan Increases Investment in ENL

ENL Group and FURUNO Electric Co. Ltd of Japan have announced that FURUNO has increased its investment into the New Zealand company to a total of 29.5%. WASSP Goes Wireless with New Remote Mapping System

Installed in the tender or support vessel of a super yacht, the WASSP-Wireless system uses a wifi radio link to send a real-time sea floor map back to the vessel.

WASSP-Wireless has been designed to address superyacht captains’ concerns about underwater obstacle avoidance, hull damage or grounding the vessel. Multibeam sonar manufacturer WASSP Ltd has announced details of the company’s latest range of multibeam sonar’s, now for all commercial applications. “Although WASSP was originally designed for commercial fishing, when the company first started promoting WASSP globally in 2006 most of the interest came from scientists and surveyors mainly because WASSP multibeam sonar technology was such a new concept to the commercial fishermen compared with the split-beam or single beam sonar traditionally used in this market,” says ENL Group CEO Gareth Hodson.

WASSP Appoints New General Manager

WASSP Ltd has announced the expansion of the company’s senior management with the appointment of Ian McDonald as General Manager. The role is a newly created position and will see Mr McDonald overseeing WASSP’s international sales & marketing strategy for their multibeam sonar products. Originally from Glasgow, Scotland, Mr McDonald has vast experience in the marine and offshore sector and has worked with over 300 technology and life science companies and research institutions in the UK and around the world.

The board of directors of Electronic Navigation Limited (ENL) have announced the appointment of Gareth Hodson as Chief Executive Officer of the company effective from 10 December 2010. Hodson’s career with ENL has spanned nearly 20-years, with his most recent position being General Manager, New Zealand Sales and Service. ENL is a New Zealand distributor of marine electronics including advanced navigation and communication equipment for small pleasure craft through to super yachts, commercial vessels and Navy ships.
