Maersk, BP Agree to 5 Year Offshore Rig Training Contract

Maersk has signed a five year contract with BP to provide offshore oil rig training at the virtual reality training center the company is currently building in Houston, the companies announced today. Maersk Training will provide BP with advanced training programs for offshore drilling teams at the new center, located in north Houston, which Maersk says will be operational by the end of 2015. BP will train employees and contractors at the facility, which offers what BP calls an "immersive simulation environment" and is based on the design of the company's Denmark offshore simulation complex…

Maersk Drilling Orders 20K™ Blow Out Preventer & Risers

Maersk Drilling has ordered four Blow Out Preventers (BOPs) and two risers from GE Oil and Gas to be used in the Project 20K™ agreement with BP. The BOPs and risers are intended to be delivered and deployed on two Maersk Drilling 20K™ Rigs by year-end 2018. The order includes options for provision of further BOPs. The order is subject to BP and Maersk Drilling taking the final investment decision on a 20K™ Rig contract. BP and Maersk Drilling announced in February 2013 a joint study agreement to develop conceptual engineering designs for a new breed of advanced technology drilling rigs that will be critical to unlocking the next frontier of deepwater oil and gas resources.

Head of Navy Education, Training Says Developing Leaders Is ‘Essential’

Telling an audience of education and training specialists from industry, academia and the government that they have an awesome responsibility, Rear Adm. Gary Jones, Commander Naval Education and Training Command (NETC), addressed the Learning Strategies Consortium Conference in Orlando, Fla., July 18. Coordinated by the Navy’s Human Performance Center, the conference was themed "Real Issues, Real Solutions for Global Learning," and focused on global learning as it pertains to learning without boundaries. “We have an awesome responsibility,” explained Jones. “When great men and women step forward to lead our nation -- whether in politics, business or the military -- their training and education (or development) is the underpinning of their success.

Jones Joins Crowley as VP

Gary Jones has joined Crowley as vice president of information technology (IT). In his new position, Jones is responsible for the strategic and tactical planning, production, deployment and maintenance of enterprise-wide technology solutions. Additionally, Jones directs the development of application and infrastructure strategies and standards, policies and procedures, quality, cost control and customer service standards. He manages a staff of approximately 100 technology professionals from his office in Jacksonville and reports to Susan Rodgers, senior vice president, administration. Jones brings over 20 years of accomplishments in the IT field to Crowley from the consumer and financial sectors.
