China Considering New Tariffs on 128 US Products

China's commerce ministry said on Friday that it may impose additional tariffs on up to $3 billion of U.S. imports in response to U.S. tariffs on Chinese steel and aluminum products. The ministry said it was considering implementing measures in two stages: first, a 15 percent tariff on 120 products including steel pipes, dried fruit and wine, and later, a 25 percent tariff on pork and recycled aluminum. Turkish Navy Monitoring Drilling Vessel near Cyprus

Turkey has sent two ships and a submarine to monitor a drilling vessel in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, the military said on Thursday, in a move likely to increase tension with Cyprus after reunification talks failed last week. The drilling work, a contractual obligation between Cyprus and France's Total, comes a week after the collapse of talks to reunify the divided island nation, split between ethnic Greek and Turkish Cypriots. Ankara has said it will take measures against Cyprus for engaging in gas and oil exploration around the island. It says that hydrocarbon resources in the waters around the divided island should belong to both sides. The military said it had deployed the frigates and a submarine to the eastern Mediterranean to "guarantee the security of oil transportation".

Greece to Evaluate Deep-sea O&G Exploration Bids

Greece will conclude the evaluation of deep-sea oil and gas exploration bids in the coming weeks and will name the preferred bidders soon after, its energy minister said on Friday, as the country seeks to tap into its limited oil reserves. Plunging crude oil prices have cut spending on oil projects around the world but cash-strapped Greece is pushing ahead with investment in the industry in a bid to reduce dependence on oil imports and boost public finances. "We are evaluating three bids made by oil companies whose financial strength, experience and infrastructure ensure they are in a position to successfully perform gas and oil exploration and production," Energy Minister Panos Skourletis said.

Louisiana to Get Natural Gas Liquefaction and Fueling Facility

Tenaska NG Fuels, LLC and Waller Marine, Inc. today announced that they have agreed to develop, construct, own and operate Louisiana's first natural gas liquefaction and fueling facility along the New Orleans-Baton Rouge Mississippi River corridor with access to the Gulf of Mexico. Located on approximately 80 acres at the Port of Greater Baton Rouge, near major highway traffic thoroughfares and high-horsepower industries, Tenaska Bayou LNG will provide liquefied natural gas (LNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) as alternative clean-burning fuels for the high-horsepower marine, transportation, and natural gas and oil exploration and production industries in the region.

Dominion to Sell Offshore E&P Ops for $4.7B

Dominion agreed to sell its offshore natural gas and oil exploration and production operations to Eni Petroleum Co. Inc., a subsidiary of Italian energy company Eni, for approximately $4.76 billion. These operations include approximately 967 billion cubic feet equivalent of proved natural gas and oil reserves in the Gulf of Mexico shelf and deep water as of Dec. 31, 2006, with 2006 average daily production of approximately 503 million cubic feet equivalent. "Today’s announcement is a significant step in Dominion’s previously announced strategic plan to refocus on the power generation and energy distribution, transmission, storage and retail businesses," said Chairman, President and CEO Thomas F. Farrell II.

CNOOC to Invest $12B in Gas, Oil Exploration

The China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) will invest $12.5b in gas and oil exploration in the next five years, CRI reported. By 2010, more than 50 new gas and oil fields of CNOOC Limited will be completed and put into production. The new fields, 24 of which are under construction and 13 under development assessment, are mainly located in East China's Bohai Sea, the Pearl River estuary and the Beibu Gulf in the South China Sea. By 2010, CNOOC Limited will have a production capacity of 50 million tons of oil equivalent, including 38 million tons of crude oil and 12.6 billion cubic meters of gas. (Source: CRI)
