W African Firm Builds LNG Import Capacity

Equatorial Guinea is set to construct the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage and regasification plant in West Africa, advancing efforts to monetize gas resources through the creation of a domestic gas-to-power infrastructure.Located at the Port of Akonikien, the landmark regasification plant will enable the storage, transportation and distribution of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the country’s mainland; 12 bullet tanks will carry 14,000 cubic meters of storage capacity, supported by a truck loading station and 12-kilometers of ten-inch gas and diesel pipelines; The project will be led by local construction and engineering firm Elite Construcciones…

Algeria Inks Deal with Vitol to Cut Fuel Imports

Algeria's state energy company Sonatrach said it has signed a deal with oil trader Vitol to send crude abroad for refining as the country seeks to reduce a record fuel import bill. CEO Abdelmoumen Ould Kaddour said Sonatrach would pay processing costs before bringing refined fuel back to Algeria, and said it was also negotiating to buy shares in a foreign refinery, but did not give details. "Our goal is to reduce our imports of gasoline, they are too high," Ould Kaddour told reporters on Tuesday. The deal is due to take effect in early February, according to a document seen by Reuters.

Novatek, Marubeni, Mitsui agree on LNG hub in Kamchatka

Russia's Novatek said on Tuesday it had signed a memorandum of understanding with Japan's Marubeni and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines to explore options for a liquefied natural gas complex in Russia's Kamchatka region.   Novatek added that the action plan was to explore opportunities to establish an LNG transshipment and marketing complex at Kamchatka in Russia's far east.   Novatek plans to launch its first LNG plant on Russia's Yamal peninsula next month, to export supercooled gas both to Europe and Asia.
