Daphne Technology Sets Up Shop in Houston

Daphne Technology has established a U.S. subsidiary, Daphne Technology USA, and has appointed Jamie Brick, to lead its North American operations from Houston, Texas.Daphne Technology says its core focus is the development of sustainable solutions to combat harmful emissions. The company's SlipPure after-treatment system, which reduces methane emissions in the exhaust of natural gas-fueled engines (aka “slip”), has received approval in principle (AIP) from Lloyd's Register (LR) and DNV.

RIX Industries Forms Sales Partnership with Blue Deep International

Arctic LNG 2, Siemens Sign Deal

Russian gas producer Novatek said that it had signed a deal with German tech giant Siemens to buy compressors for its new Arctic LNG 2 natural gas liquefaction plant.Novatek's second LNG export facility after Yamal LNG, the 19.8 million mt/year Arctic LNG-2 project is moving closer to the reality after this deal.The scope of supply under the contract includes three feed gas compressors and six boil-off gas compressors. SK Shipping Selects 5X72DF for LNG Carriers

Securing the position of its low-speed low-pressure X‑DF engines as market leaders, Winterthur Gas & Diesel (WinGD) has been selected to supply two 5-cylinder X72DF (5X72DF) engines for each of a pair of 180,000 m3 LNG carriers ordered by South Korean shipowner SK Shipping Co., Ltd (SK). The shipbuilding contract was signed in May 2016. The twin-skeg LNG carriers will be built by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and the engines by Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd / Engine & Machinery Division (HHI-EMD). They will be fitted with a GTT Mark III Flex membrane cargo containment system. In addition, the ships will feature HHI’s Hi-SGAS system combining fuel system supply for the two 5X72DF engines with the Hi‑SGAS system that can re-liquefy 100 % of the boil off gas (BOG) from the cargo.

Subsea Energy Production Beats Topside Method Says ABB

ABB recently entered a partnership with international energy company Statoil to develop power solutions for subsea oil and gas production. A key challenge they identify is to develop reliable long-distance power transmission technology and to build components that can function for several decades at depths of up to 3,000 meters. The subsea industry has gained worldwide importance as oil companies strive for increased recovery and venture towards remote and deep waters in the hunt for new oil and gas fields.

ABB has entered a US$100-million research and development joint industry program (JIP) with Statoil to develop solutions for transmission, distribution and power conversion systems designed to power and control subsea pumps and gas compressors at depths of 3,000 meters, and over vast distances. The agreement is seen as an important step on the path to develop complete subsea oil and gas producing facilities. Statoil is leading the JIP on behalf of other participating oil companies, while ABB is responsible for developing the new technology.

Statoil, ABB Enter Subsea Technology Agreement

Statoil and ABB have entered an agreement to develop solutions for subsea electrical power transmission, distribution and power conversion systems for water depths down to 3,000 meters and over long distances. The agreement is in the form of a cost-shared joint industrial program (JIP) led by Statoil on behalf of other participating oil companies, with ABB as the technology developer. MAN Diesel & Turbo SE wins Petroleo Brasileiro (Petrobras) contract extension for maintenance, repair & operational support of 20 MAN THM gas turbine trains. The contract extension covers four offshore platforms in the crude oil and natural gas exploration area off the north-east coast of Rio de Janeiro. The agreement spans five years and is the second extension of this service contract, which was originally signed in 2002. The value of the agreement is Euro 150 million. Aker Solutions & Statoil have been awarded the ONS Innovation Award for the Åsgard subsea gas compression system. Reservoir pressure in producing gas fields falls over time, causing gas output to decline. For production to continue and maximise recovery from the fields, gas pressure must be raised or production will cease. ABB wins Statoil order to install high voltage power subsea cables  to the 'Troll' A gas platform on the western coast of Norway. The Troll A concrete deep water structure is the world’s largest natural gas production platform, 473 meters tall and weighs 1.2 million tons; it is the tallest structure ever to be moved by mankind. The platform can produce as much as 120 million cubic meters per day; it contains approximately 40 percent of the natural gas reserves on the Norwegian Continental Shelf and is a cornerstone of the gas supply to the European Continent.

Topside modifications at Åsgard

Statoil awarded Aker Solutions an engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract for subsea compression topside modifications on the Åsgard field. The Åsgard licence has decided on a concept involving gas compressors installed on the seabed, so-called subsea gas compression. The purpose of the modification is to supply electricity to the Åsgard subsea compressor units, which will be installed in 2013. Åsgard is the first installation worldwide to employ subsea gas processing involving gas compression and this represents an important technological step change in the development of fields in deep and demanding waters and creates exciting opportunities for the industry.

M'bishi Heavy Supplies LNG Compressors to Shell

Prelube Pumps Extend Engine Life

It is no revelation that maximizing equipment life directly impacts the bottom line. When it comes to profitability, every dollar saved on equipment maintenance is a dollar earned. Prelube pumps move oil from the oil sump to the moving parts of an engine before engine start-up. Pre-lubing before every start is an inexpensive way to extend the life of engine-driven equipment. When an engine is running, the engine's oil pump supplies pressurized oil into the center of the bearings to create a cushion that separates the bearing surface from the crankshaft. Once the engine is running, the surfaces never touch because they ride on this film of oil. As soon as the engine shuts down, however, the oil that comprises the cushion begins to drain away and the film thins.

In line with the changing business pattern in the ship repair industry and new business opportunities in the fast growing fleet of lng carriers around the world, Malaysia’s Malaysia Shipyard & Engineering (MSE) has entered the lng repair business. The yard has demonstrated its ability to innovate, reposition and transform itself to cater to this specialised niche market and shown its commitment by investing substantially to build up lng repair capabilities and facilities. As part of a drive to enhance capability and expertise in the repair of lng carriers, MSE has entered into a Technical Service Agreement on October 15th 2002 with Gaz Transport Technigaz (GTT).

Hybrid Propulsion System for LNG Tankers

The Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S) has developed the "Siship Coges" hybrid power-supply and propulsion system for use on LNG (liquefied natural gas) tankers. Two SGT 500 gas turbines are the heart of the electrical power generation system. This type of turbine is designed to be operated with gaseous and liquid fuels at the same time, as a result of which the "boil-off" of the LNG can be used as well as heavy-oil and diesel fuels. Two heat-recovery units, a steam turbine, and an optional diesel generator complete the on-board power system. The approximately 50,000 kW of generated electrical energy supplies two electric motors for powering the propeller shafts, the liquid-gas compressors, and pumps in the cargo area; as well as the on-board power supply system.
