Wärtsilä Wins Total Solution Order for LNG Vessel
Wärtsilä, the marine industry's leading solutions provider, has been contracted by Kleven Maritime of Norway to design a new LNG powered Platform Supply Vessel (PSV) of the Norwegian operator Rem Offshore. The scope of the order also includes the propulsion machinery, automation and other equipment for the same vessel. Wärtsilä New LNG Powered PSV Order
Wärtsilä has received an order for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs). Norwegian operator Eidesvik Offshore has placed an order for its fifth gas PSV. All Eidesvik's gas PSVs, including this latest order, are designed by Wärtsilä and utilize Wärtsilä's unique dual-fuel technology. In addition to the complete design of the vessel, Wärtsilä's scope of supply for the new PSV includes the dual-fuel main engines and generating sets, the electrical power and propulsion system, integrated automation, and the power management system.
Bergen Engines to Power Coastal Ferries
A fleet of passenger/vehicle ferries fuelled with liquefied natural gas (LNG) is to be built to serve two important link routes on the Norwegian coast. Three of the double-ended vessels will shuttle between Halhjem and Sandvikvåg, joining sections of the E39 highway along the coast south of Bergen, the other two between Arsvågen and Mortavika in the Stavanger region. These routes are the second and third most intensively used ferry links in Norway in terms of passenger and vehicle numbers. The vessels are to be built at Aker Yards for Fjord 1, and are scheduled to go into operation at the beginning of 2007. Hyundai, MAN B&W Are At Top of Engine Power
Rising Korean aspirations as to market influence and technological standing could alter the established order in an important segment of the engine business. While MAN B&W announced opening contracts for its new L21/31 design as a marine auxiliary, Hyundai Heavy Industries was preparing to roll-out its first-ever, self-originated engine type targeted at a similar power range. The H21/32 signals the emergence of Hyundai, the world's largest producer of marine diesels, as a designer in its own right. The company's development of the in-house Himsen brand denotes a move towards increased technological self-reliance, given the wholesale dependence up until now on manufacturing licenses from foreign engine firms.
