Wärtsilä to Supply Cargo Handling Systems for Solvang’s Newbuild VLGC Vessels

Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, part of technology group Wärtsilä, will supply the cargo handling systems for additional two new very large LPG carrier vessels to be built at the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea.The ships have been contracted by Norwegian ship owner Solvang. The order follows a similar one placed in 2023 for five vessels being built at the same yard for the same owner.The very large gas carriers (VLGCs) are of Panamax size and form the next generation of eco-vessels.

Wärtsilä has announced plans to further streamline its marine business portfolio by divesting its Gas Solutions business unit.Gas Solutions is a provider of gas processing systems. Exmar Orders Ammonia-Powered Midsize Gas Carriers

Schulte Group unveiled its next generation design for an liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunker vessel (LBV), which it said is engineered to be easy-to-use and reduce last-mile costs.The unique vessel design, presented at Gastech Exhibition and Conference in Milan, does away with the need for fenders and spacer pontoons, replacing them with an integrated outrigging system that’s compatible with any vessel type and can be operational in five minutes with the push of a button. Same applies to the telescopic crane, which extends over 40 meters over the water and can be adjusted to any required reach.

Scana Records Strong Growth

Scana reports that it has more than doubled revenues and EBITDA in the first quarter. Revenues increased by 126 percent to $21.2m (NOK 208 million) compared to the same period last year, while EBITDA was up 140 percent to $1.63m (NOK 16 million), with the acquisition of PSW Group being the main driver.“Scana have transitioned to a new company. The acquisition of PSW Group closed on 11 January 2022, and Scana now forms a driving force for the green shift in the ocean industries,” says Styrk Bekkenes, CEO of Scana.“Our ambition is to reach $173m (NOK 1.7 billion) in revenues in 2025.

ABS Grants AIP for Ammonia Bunkering Vessel Design

Japanese shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. on Tuesday announced that the company, along with ITOCHU Corporation has obtained approval in principle (AIP) from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for an ammonia bunkering vessel concept.The project is part of a joint development study on ammonia fuel supply chain in Singapore. Wärtsilä to Equip Second US LNG Bunker Vessel

The technology group Wärtsilä said it will supply a complete liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo storage and handling system for a new 103 meter (340 feet) long LNG bunker barge to be built at Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding in Wisconsin, USA for Polaris New Energy (PNE). Norwegian group Crown LNG has signed a deal with Aker Solutions as the main contractor to deliver a concrete gravity-based structure (GBS) for Crown’s offshore LNG terminal at Kakinada, India.Under the agreement, Aker Solutions and key subcontractors will first conduct the front-end engineering and design for the LNG terminal. Aker Solutions’ scope includes technical development of the concrete foundation and topsides, as well as the pipeline between the offshore regasification terminal and the onshore gas grid.

Finnish vessel technology company Wärtsilä said it has been awarded a contract for the supply of cargo handling and fuel supply system for two new 98,000 cbm very large ethane carriers (VLEC) being built at the Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) shipyard in South Korea, with an option for a third vessel.The order, placed in September 2020, follows a similar contract awarded in 2019 for three VLECs, also under construction at Samsung Heavy Industries.The ships will also feature Wärtsilä’s tailormade and highly efficient reliquefaction unit and a unique high-pressure ethane fuel supply system.
