Norway's First LNG Bunkering Vessel Enters Service

Bergen Tankers’ newly converted liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering vessel—Norway's first—has recently entered service.The 49.25-meter vessel, Bergen LNG, is being operated by Gasnor (Shell) in the Bergen area and on the Norwegian west coast to supply the LNG-fueled passenger ships operated by Hurtigruten and Kystruten. Global LNG Bunkering Market to Reach USD 8.19bln by 2023

Global LNG Bunkering market is expected to grow from $248.64 million in 2016 to reach $8187.35 million by 2023 with a CAGR of 64.7%. According to Stratistics MRC, growing marine logistic business, cost efficient LNG products, and imposing environmental regulations on chemical emissions are some of the factors bolstering the market growth. Shell Loads First LNG Vessel at Gate Terminal

Shell loads first LNG vessel, using new LNG fuel infrastructure at Gate terminal. The new LNG fuel infrastructure included the construction of a new berth. This new berth has now started operations. The loading of Shell’s chartered LNG vessel, the Coral Methane happened on September 19th. In July 2014, Shell took the Final Investment Decision to buy capacity at the Gas Access to Europe (Gate) terminal, which enabled the investment in new, dedicated liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel infrastructure. The new LNG fuel infrastructure included the construction of a new berth.

Alternative to Diesel Strengthens as Barriers Continue to Fall. From the earliest days of mechanically propelled ships, fuel use has been evolving. Starting with wood, fuel changed to coal, which held sway for many years. Oil began to be used in the late nineteenth century and was clearly the dominate marine fuel of the twentieth century. Environmental shortcomings of fuel oil, particularly traditional heavy bunkers, were brought under increasing scrutiny as the twentieth century came to a close.

Shell Developing U.S. LNG Fueling Network

Shell and TravelCenters of America LLC (TA) to develop network of (LNG) fueling centers for road users; alongside that Shell is developing a marine bunkering infrastructure. Shell has been working to develop the LNG for Transport market globally. Last year, they announced their intention to collaborate with TA  and the finalization of that agreement is a major step toward making LNG fuels a reality for the U.S. heavy duty road customers. Shell has also announced that it will invest in two small-scale LNG production units that form the basis of two new LNG transport corridors in the Great Lakes and Gulf Coast regions that will provide LNG to marine and heavy duty road customers. This brings the total to three planned Shell LNG production units dedicated to transport in North America.

DNV to Study Risk for LNG Bunker Station in German Port

Gasnor and Brunsbüttel Port are planning to build an LNG (liquefied natural gas) bunker station at Brunsbüttel, Germany. DNV has been contracted to conduct the risk studies of the project, which will be the basis for the authorities’ approval of the project. With this important step Gasnor and Brunsbüttel Port are leading the way in offering LNG fuel at Brunsbüttel and the Northern German area, at the strategic location of the crossing of the river Elbe and the Kiel-Canal.
