INSIGHTS: Rear Admiral Mark H. Buzby, USN (Ret)

Rear Admiral Mark Buzby is the Maritime Administrator, U.S. Maritime Administration.Rear Adm. Mark H. Buzby was appointed by President Donald Trump and sworn in as Maritime Administrator on August 8, 2017. Prior to his appointment, Buzby served as president of the National Defense Transportation Association, a position he has held since retiring from the U.S. Navy in 2013 with over 34 years of service. A 1979 graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Buzby earned his Bachelor of Science in Nautical Science and U.S. Coast Guard Third Mate License. He was commissioned in the US Navy in June 1979, is a graduate of the Joint Forces Staff College and holds master’s degrees from the U.S.

Rolling on the River with CORBA

As the Central Ohio River Business Association (CORBA) pushes commerce on the Ohio River, stakeholders are beginning to take notice. On January 19, in an office tower overlooking the Ohio River, Eric Thomas convened the first meeting of 2017 for a business group working in the 13th largest port in the U.S.: the Ports of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky (PCNK). Thomas serves as the Executive Director of CORBA – the Central Ohio River Business Association. PCNK’s high rank is likely a surprise to many.

Hummer to Head MARAD N. Cal. Office

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration has named John Hummer to head its new Northern California Gateway Office in San Francisco. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Hummer served as the State of California’s deputy secretary for goods movement in the Business, Transportation, and Housing Agency. The Maritime Administration has established nine gateway offices at the Nation’s largest ports to ensure locally-based teams of intermodal maritime transportation experts will work with headquarters staff, State and local authorities, and a broad range of port, shipper, and carrier stakeholders on projects. MarAd Appoints Hicks

The Maritime Administration has named Alan T. Hicks to head its new Southern California Gateway Office in    Ten Gateway Offices have been established in the Nation's largest ports to place a team of intermodal maritime experts "on the ground" that work with headquarters staff, state and local authorities and a broad range of port, shipper and carrier stakeholders to cooperate on projects. MarAd Seeks Director for Houston Gateway Office

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration is searching for a director for its new Gateway Office in .  The Gateway Offices provide the Maritime Administration with a day-to-day presence throughout the Marine Transportation System.  The new office will work with state and local authorities and a broad range of port, shipper and carrier stakeholders to cooperate on projects, identify federal and state funding, and work on environmental and community challenges in the ports and their intermodal connections.
