$754M Ship Repair Contract Awarded

General Dynamics NASSCO, a subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) won a contract by the U.S. Navy for the maintenance, modernization and repair of USS Chung-Hoon (DDG 93) and USS James E. Williams (DDG 95). The contract for an initial $15.6 million includes options that, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value to $753.8 million.Work will be performed in Norfolk, Virginia, and San Diego, California. If all options are exercised, work will continue through November 2030.

U.S. President Joe Biden will meet leaders of Australia and Britain in San Diego on Monday to announce a way forward for Australia to receive nuclear-powered submarines in Canberra's biggest-ever defense project.The three countries announced the so-called AUKUS plan in 2021 as part of efforts to counter China in the Indo-Pacific region.However, questions remain over strict U.S. curbs on the extensive technology sharing needed for the project and about the length of time it will take to deliver the submarines.Australia is expected to buy up to five U.S.

NASSCO Awarded $1.4 Billion to Build US Navy Ships

Shipbuilder General Dynamics NASSCO, a subsidiary of aerospace and defense company General Dynamics (GD), announced on Friday that it received $1.4 billion in U.S. Navy contract modifications for construction of a sixth Expeditionary Sea Base ship (ESB 8) and two additional John Lewis-class fleet oilers (T-AO 211 and 212). Great Ships of 2020: NYK's Sakura Leader

The world’s first Digital Smart Ship (DSS)On October 28, 2020, NYK took delivery of Sakura Leader, a pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) capable of navigating oceans with only LNG as the ship’s main fuel. This delivery marks a step toward achieving NYK’s environment management target, which is to reduce CO2 emissions per ton-kilometer of transport by 50% by 2050. The vessel was built at the Shin Kurushima Dockyard of Shin Kurushima Toyohashi Shipbuilding Co. Ltd.The ship is the first large LNG-fueled PCTC to be built in Japan.

The National Shipbuilding Research Program (NSRP) has awarded Hepburn and Sons LLC with the R&D Insulated Bus Pipe (IBP) Standard Interface to Naval Electrical Equipment.The team consist of Hepburn and Sons LLC, TEFELEN, NSWCPD, GD-Bath Iron Works, RSL Fiber, AeroNav, Staubli, FSU CAPS, KATO Engineering, Northrop Grumman Sykesville, General Atomics, Rolls Royce, ABS, ABB, DRS, and Roxtec. The NSRP investment is $1.14 million and the industry investment is $1.14 million. The duration of the project is 24 Months.The scope of this project is to conduct research and test a common connector that will work with the majority of electrical equipment installed on board Navy ships.

GD NASSCO to Christen Matson Containership

General Dynamics NASSCO will hold a special event to christen and launch the containership Lurline on Saturday, June 15.  Lurline is an 870-foot-long, 3,500 TEU, 44,200 dwt, combination containership/RoRo vessel built for Matson, Inc.  The ship is the largest containership ever built in San Diego.Lurline has liquefied natural gas-capable engines and is designed for energy efficiency.  It is the lead ship of a two-vessel contract being built for Matson at General Dynamics NASSCO.Ceremony participants include General Dynamics NASSCO president Kevin Graney and Matson CEO Matt Cox.  Constance Lau, CEO and director of Hawaiian Electric Industries and a Matson board of directors member, will christen the ship with the traditional break of a champagne bottle on the hull.

GD: $346m for USN Virginia-Class Submarine Work

General Dynamics Electric Boat has been awarded a $346.5 million contract modification by the U.S. Navy to provide research and development and lead-yard services for Virginia-class nuclear-powered attack submarines. Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD).Under the contract modification, Electric Boat will undertake development studies and other work related to Virginia-class submarine design improvements. Additionally, Electric Boat will perform research and development work required to evaluate new technologies to be inserted in newly built Virginia-class ships, including the Virginia Payload Module.Initially awarded in 2016, the contract has a potential value of $1.3 billion through September 2019.

General Dynamics: USN Awards $46m for Groton Sub Base

The U.S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat a $46.2 million contract modification to perform non-nuclear maintenance work on submarines homeported at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton. Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD).With this award, Electric Boat will continue operating the New England Maintenance Manpower Initiative (NEMMI) at the submarine base. While General Dynamics (GD) is diverse, several significant shipbuilding projects helped to drive Q3 2018 earnings up 13.1% GD reported third-quarter 2018 earnings from continuing operations of $864 million, a 13.1 percent increase over third-quarter 2017. U.S. Navy: $481m Funding to GD For Next-gen Ballistic-Missile Submarine

The U.S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat a $480.6 million contract modification to continue the development of the lead Columbia-class submarine, the nation’s next-generation sea-based strategic deterrent. Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD).The modification includes funding for advance procurement, advance construction and long lead time material for Columbia (SSBN 826). Construction of the lead ship of the class is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2020. NASSCO starts construction of ESB 5

On Wednesday, January 25, General Dynamics NASSCO, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), began construction on a fifth ship for the U.S. Navy’s Expeditionary Transfer Dock (ESD)/Expeditionary Sea Base (ESB) program. Designed to provide advanced flexibility and capability for sea-to-shore missions, the newest ESB will include a 52,000 square-foot flight deck, fuel and equipment storage, repair spaces, magazines, mission planning spaces and accommodations for up to 250 personnel. Serving as a ‘pier at sea,’ the 784-foot-long ship is also designed to support MH-53 and MH-60 helicopters and MV-22 tilt rotor aircraft. The ship, ESB 5, is the fifth to be added to a contract between NASSCO and the U.S.

GD Electric Boat Wins Funds for Future Sub R&D

General Dynamics Electric Boat, Groton, Connecticut, is being awarded $8,788,219 for cost-plus-fixed-fee modification P00023 to previously awarded contract (N00014-13-C-0187) for the future submarine science and technology research effort. Electric Boat will perform investigations to develop and demonstrate technology for Navy submarines. With the award of this modification, the total cumulative value of this contract is $23,453,010. Work will be performed in Cambridge, Massachusetts (44 percent); Groton, Connecticut (29 percent); Pawcatuck, Connecticut (20 percent); Airmont, New York (3 percent); Canonsburg, Pennsylvania (1 percent); and future performance in Mystic, Connecticut (3 percent).
